'Toine Walker Robbed at Gunpoint
Robbery at Chicago home of Heat forward Walker
By The Associated Press
July 10, 2007
CHICAGO (AP) -- Miami Heat forward Antoine Walker's home in Chicago was robbed Monday, the player's agent said.
Police and witnesses said two offenders held Walker and at least one other person at gunpoint during the robbery, Chicago broadcasters reported from the scene in the city's River North neighborhood Monday night.

Walker's agent, Mark Bartelstein, confirmed the incident took place but said he could not give specific details.
"He's OK," Bartelstein told The Associated Press. "There was a robbery. It's a scary thing. It's a terrible thing. He's trying to get himself back together. Police are there and he's getting it taken care of."
Chicago Police spokesman Hector Alfaro said officers responded to a robbery at a home in the neighborhood about 7:30 p.m. EDT, but could not confirm that the home belonged to Walker. A vehicle, cash and jewelry were reported stolen and there were no injuries, Alfaro said.
Bartelstein said Walker was with a relative at the time of the incident.
Walker was not available for comment. The Heat were aware of the incident, a team official said, but had no other comment while they attempted to gather facts.
In July 2000, Walker -- then a Boston Celtic -- was the victim of an armed robbery along with NBA center Nazr Mohammed as they sat in a vehicle waiting for a restaurant on Chicago's South Side to open. Police said at the time that three men approached and demanded cash and valuables, which included a $55,000 wristwatch.
Walker, a three-time All-Star, averaged 8.5 points with Miami this past season and was a key part of the Heat's run to the 2006 NBA championship.
The Chicago native was part of the 1996 NCAA championship team at Kentucky and an all-state player at Mount Carmel High School.
AP Sports Writer Tim Reynolds in Miami contributed to this report.

....it's not a funny thing to be robbed at gunpoint, but I'll admit I chuckled a bit at the thought of "Mighty Toine" in that situation.

You know what, man? If you ever get into that type of situation and there's an article on it, I'll get on and post how I "chuckled a bit" at the thought that it happened to you. See just how you would feel if anyone made light of a dangerous situation like that.
There are some things you can joke about :
Walker's shooting form
His Weight
The fact that he exists
and ME.
But you should never joke about being robbed at gunpoint and never want to have other people be in that situation. It's not right.

I don't care if its Paris Hilton, Tupac Shakur, Isaiah Thomas, Antoine Walker or Ted Kennedy, I will make jokes if its funny.

Maybe it was Pat Riley trying to recoup some of that $50 million+ that he gave him.

Spare me the guilt trip. Toine isn't going to be reading these boards any time soon, so his feelings aren't going to get hurt.
Besides, it's not like he got hurt. I wouldn't be on here laughing if he was in the hospital or dead. He'll get over it and so will you.

I guess I didn't make it clear....
I was alluding to the fact that you would think it be funny if *I* was in that situation....I wouldn't wish this to happen to anyone, whether it be a player, a fan, or an internet messageboard poster....

I can't imagine being held at gunpoint in my own home.
Its very fortunate that Walker or any of his loved ones weren't harmed.
I'm as cynical as the next guy/gal......but armed robbery doesn't make me giggle.

If you describe the stark reality of sitting hours in an isolated cell, Paris Hilton going to jail wasn't funny either. And risking a homicide or manslaughter by driving drunk on the wrong side of the road isnt all that funny, but since things turned out well it did give me a chuckle imagining Lindsey Lohan trying to figure out what lane she needed to be in.

In some ways the Paris Hilton thing was more pathetic than funny. But if we're drawing a comparison, A) she didn't have a gun to her head and b) she was mostly responsible for her own circumstances..(drunk driving, driving without a license).
I agree that drunken driving isn't funny.

I never wished it on anyone. No one here wished that on anyone at all and I doubt ever would. The reality of it is stark but in the blasee world where celebrities hurt people and get away with it, I just made a joke because Antoine Walker, the master of the shimmy, who had a championship ring before the Mavs despite how poor of a player he is, had his jewelry stolen.

Walker is a "celebrity"?
Seriously though.... so what you're saying is that 'cause Walker rode Shaq and Wade's coattails to a title(even I'm not denying that), then that makes it okay to support what happened to him and to wish the same thing on anyone else. Nice.
I know he's public enemy #2 here(with myself being #1, I think) but let's please try and separate the GAME vs. REALITY for a bit, okay?
And no.....I'm not "lecturing" anyone.....

Now *That's* the first really intelligent response I've seen all day.
by the way, a bit more info came in regarding what exactly happened :
Quote:
Yet Walker fell victim to a terrifying gunpoint robbery in his $4.1 million residence Monday evening. A source close to the Walker family said the 6-foot-9 Heat forward was bound with duct tape by masked intruders and robbed of jewelry, cash and his black Mercedes.
Chicago police recovered the Mercedes — minus its wheels — on Tuesday, but declined to confirm other details of the investigation.
The source told the Chicago Tribune on Tuesday that two intruders wearing masks and covering their eyes entered through the garage at Walker's home Monday evening. One held a weapon, likely a small handgun, to Walker's head.
The intruders ordered Walker into his house, where they wrapped duct tape around his ankles and wrists. Walker was able to extricate himself from the tape after the robbery.
"Antoine called me after the incident was going on. He was hysterical on the phone when I first talked to him," Walker's mother, Diane, said Tuesday.
According to the source, Walker is packing his belongings from his residence after Monday's frightening experience.
"He's gone, baby," the source said.

The "jokes" on this board don't seem so funny anymore, huh? These guys could've shot him execution-style the way they had him tied up....
but nah...let's hate on him 'cause he got a championship ring and Dirk didn't....

That is so sorry. Criminals are all idiots. And they'll eventually get caught.
So pathetic....where do people go wrong? Get a degree and get a job. Work hard. Robbing people is just being lazy. Any man who can't earn an honest living is a coward and a sack of sh^t.
Also, Antoine walker is a tool.

...no it still seems pretty funny to me. They "could have" shot him but they didn't. If they had, I wouldn't be laughing. But as it is, he's fine, sans some lost possessions and some emotional distress.

That's frightening stuff, indeed.
I think this an appropriate time to distinguish the "sports world" from the "real world" - but that's just my opinion.
ETA: I don't have a problem with people making "jokes" about any subject really. If you want to fire off the 9/11 Joke Series, the Pearl Harbor Jokes Series, or the Laci Peterson Joke Series, I'm not one to scoff at people using humor to deal with a stituation. Now, whether those jokes are actually funny, is a completely different story. But nonetheless, the situation itself, is still not funny and I think alot of times people are too quick to take a cavalier attitude towards violence in general. I think that was MT's original point, and its a point that should've been easily conceded. Anyway, that's my opinion...maybe I'm being preachy or whatever...its what I believe.
Done with this thread.
(P.S...sorry if I'm sounding cranky)

Now THIS is a funny statement.... I couldn't help but laugh when I saw it.
Actually it is a shame that someone robbed him. I'm NOT by any stretch of the imagination a fan of Walker's but that's terrible that someone decided to rob the man while he's at his home. What a shame....

Fortunately for Walker, the perpetrators did not intend to shoot unless they had to, because we know there's no way Walker can stop anyone from getting their shot.

It appears that the link is that neither Curry nor Walker can defend.
Robbery at home of former Bulls star Curry
July 29, 2007
From staff and Associated Press REPORTS
BURR RIDGE -- Three masked robbers broke into the suburban Chicago home of New York Knicks forward Eddy Curry early Saturday, according to police. The robbery took place a little over two weeks after Miami Heat forward Antoine Walker was robbed at gunpoint at his Chicago town house.
In the incident Saturday, the offenders restrained Curry, his wife and an employee with duct tape as they went through the house looking for valuables, according to Deputy Chief of Police John Madden .
The three robbers made off with cash and jewelry, police said. Madden refused to give more details about the robbery. No one was injured in the incident. Madden said investigators do not believe the robbery was a random incident.
Link to 2 robbed NBA players sought
By John Biemer
2:17 PM CDT, July 30, 2007
Burr Ridge police said today they are investigating whether the robbery of former Chicago Bull forward Eddy Curry at his home over the weekend is linked to the robbery of fellow NBA player Antoine Walker three weeks ago in Chicago.
"We haven't made any direct connections as of yet, [but] our investigators are looking at that angle of it," Burr Ridge Cpl. Tim Vaclav said.
As of today, police had made no arrests, and Vaclav said he was not aware of any particular leads in the Curry case.
On Saturday, three masked robbers restrained the 6-foot-11 Curry, some of his family members and an employee with duct tape and held them at gunpoint inside the player's home in the southwest suburb, police said.
No one was hurt, but the robbers fled with cash and jewelry.
The robbery came nearly three weeks after Miami Heat star and Chicago native Antoine Walker was robbed at gunpoint at his home in Chicago's River North neighborhood.
Like Curry, the 6-foot-9-inch Walker was tied up with duct tape by masked intruders, and robbed of jewelry and cash. Walker's Mercedes also was stolen but found. He later moved from the neighborhood.
Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso said he met with Curry and his wife for about 15 minutes Saturday and that the couple said nothing about moving from their home at the end of a cul-de-sac on a short, isolated street. He said Curry reported the incident to the NBA.
It "seems to have a lot of coincidence with the Antoine Walker robbery," Grasso said.
The mayor said it was the first robbery and home invasion he could recall in the well-off suburb, which is home to several professional athletes.
Curry, one of the top high school basketball players in the country while a senior at Thornwood High School in South Holland, played for the Bulls from 2001 to 2005 and is now with the New York Knicks.
Curry's neighbors said police patrols have been constant since Saturday and that they have been told there is no reason to leave the neighborhood, even for a short time. Some said they are being more vigilant, while others say they have no worries because Curry was likely targeted.
Burr Ridge police have previously said they do not believe the robbery was a "random incident."

I'm sure Walker hated it because he's used to taking all the shots.

I haven't posted much until this topic was created.....and let me say this :
When you have idiotic crap like this thread going, it's a given that you're going to attract unwanted attention....
by the way....to be fair, that last statement about "walker hating it 'cause he's used to taking all the shots" is pretty clever....not funny but clever.
