Ah what a wonderful day!
I hate playing @ Avalanche though. That sucks. I always have a bad feeling about that.
About Ribeiro..."a week." I hope you'll excuse old negative Flaco if after last season, he is a little skeptical about that.
And mark my words here on day 1....Zubov will end up with Norstrum at some point this season.
GO STARS.

I'm a bona-fide SFFL. Actually, when I proclaim that for a team they usually end up not doing well in the post season (see Mavericks, Desperados... hasn't affected the Cowboys yet - last year notwithstanding - so maybe that's a good sign).

That's ok u2. Teams like the Mavs and Desperados who have a good thing going have that fragile karma.
The Stars are more like the Rangers. You can bet it's going to turn out pretty much the same every year. An expeditious first round exit, in their case.
However, if they miss the playoffs this year (they very well might) I'm blaming you.

I don't think we've gotten word, yet. Morrow skating toward the back board with an Avalanche player right behind him. As Morrow was bracing to stop his momentum, he slipped and fell down right as the Avalanche player hit what became an empty space against the board. His right leg smacked Morrow's head against the board. Completely accidental, the guy immediately tried to make sure Morrow was okay. Morrow got up grasping his nose and went back into the locker room. I assume it was a broken nose.
This offense looks pretty much like it did last season. A completely inability to get good shots on goal.

Man. It's gonna be a bummer if we can't even do our late-game comeback thing like last year. This thing isn't exactly off to the greatest of starts.

Way to let the air out of the tires Marty.
He shouldn't have let in the first one, or the last one.
Clanged one good off the post. Missed a couple chances down in front.
No loose puck battles won, no sense of urgency until down 4-1 with 10 minutes left.
It's going to be a while before they get this figured it out. You're already 3 points behind the Ducks.....

MOTHER FKCGIN Joe Thornton scores with 10 seconds left....and the Sharks are gonna get 1 or 2 points after all....
Oh hockey season I both love and hate you
Oh and the Coyotes are winning too. So Dallas will be the only team without points in the division.

Well they play the Bruins in the home opener so I will actually get TV for this thing, although I'm going to see Wicked tonight(!!) so I won't be watching it live. Let's get this thing on track. No need to completely crush morale 2 games in by going 0-2.

So tonight's game, and the Halloween game are in HD o FSN SW.
That is so freaking stupid. Why put the home games on in HD locally? How about the away games??? Grrrrr.
Wednesday's game made me go from excited about tonight, to apprehensive about tonight. And I am proudly displaying my now vintage* jersey. I refuse to buy the new one yet.
Go Stars. Don't suck.

Just watched the DVR of the game...I thought they looked good. Just the kind of response you want to see from that opener. Was pretty impressed by Niskanen...I really don't want to see him sent down. Why the F would we keep Nolan Baumgartner over him? Niskanen looks completely, 100% NHL ready. He didn't look out of his element at all. At some point, you gotta let these kids play. We talk about the forwards all the time, but just remember, Zubov is 37 & Boucher is 34...our best D ain't getting any younger either. We really really need Grossman & Niskanen to work out.
PS another general note...I'm watching the Bruins broadcast & they're interviewing Marc Savard & Claude Julien & a couple other guys & they really don't seem all that sad/angry about this loss. As their broadcasters described it, they'll "take a lot of positives out of this game" & "will be in a pretty good mood going into Phoenix tomorrow." ...Seriously? Should you really be that ok w/a 4-1 loss? I don't agree w/a lot of what's happening w/the Stars organization lately, but I will say this about them: you would never see that kind of attitude come out of anyone associated w/the Stars. That's one thing I like about them...losing is never okay. Anyway...looks like it's gonna be a long year for Boston. Luckily, w/KG & Ray Allen here, nobody cares about the Bruins anyway.
EDIT: One last PS: Just had to laugh at Marc Savard using the B's travel issues as an excuse. Let's be real, Marc. Maybe you shouldn't be complaining about travel when you're playing DALLAS, who has probably the worst travel in the whole league. How about your stupid division signs off on a new schedule where the conferences are actually forced to travel to play each other more than 5 games a year & THEN you can complain about having to travel. Shut up, Eastern Conference.
Think I should be getting the Trashville game tommorrow via the free Center Ice preview. I still hate them. Let's get this road thing going.

Yeah I was absolutely floored by the fact that the Bruins won't leave their time zone after this road trip for the rest of the season. We'll see just how much they enjoy the Pacific division these next couple of days...
And I think the idea behind Baumgartner as it relates to Niskanen is that if everyone's healthy.... either Grossman or Niskanen are probably going to be sitting when they could be gaining experience in the AHL. Baumgartner isn't going to get any better. But if Niskanen keeps this up he could force a trade of say, Robidas, and earn a permanent spot in the top 6.

Man Boston sucks. Have fun watching them all year ames.
After I got home I watched the goals again on the DVR. It was in HD last night. That is so sweet in HD.
I did not like Ott on the penalty kill.
I do not like the fact that Zubov has been on the ice for all 5 goals against. He made a couple of real bonehead plays last night in his own end. It's a good thing he's got that offensive upside, because he's really starting to worry me.
And that was about as far away from the goal as you will ever seen Brenden Morrow score a goal.
I'm holding judgement on this game until tonight's game is over. The predators shut out the Avs the other night when they were on the 2nd night of a back to back....why are they so lucky with the scheduling?

Yeah, and I know that is also the thinking behind keeping Connor down, but from the limited bit I've seen from Niskanen, I'm pretty convinced he's ready to contribute as one of the top 6 D. No one is going to take Robi's contract...but if Niskanen can keep it up, I think it might open the door to trading Daley or even Boucher down the road for offensive help. I'm pretty interested in seeing how Grossman looks when he comes back.
Oh God. I've got the Nashville broadcast tonight on Center Ice. Of all our D men, they chose to highlight Trevor Daley "who loves to beat you one on one." ...This is going to be painful.

Two fights already! Winchester got killed, but Barch looked good. I like it. Give that knucklehead Tootoo something to think about.

They should just call it quits and go get that steak dinner they're obviously thinking about.

I'd like to once again thank Florida for handing us Nik Hagman a few years ago. Thanks, guys! Anytime you want a 7th rounder for a likely 20+ goal scorer, you know who to call.

Hagman + Ribeiro + Morrow = genius.
It's so rare that the Stars are up so many that I'm just sitting in my seat smiling like an idiot.

Nope, I hate him more. Because if he was always a spare, Army & co. would have no problems just cutting him loose. It's b/c of these annoying, exasperatingly skilled plays he has about 4 times a year that we're still stuck w/him. I really don't care, I stand by my belief that he's a spare who deserves to be a scratch about 70% of the time & I'm annoyed he's taking time away from Eriksson.

What was even more puzzling was why they scratched Ott last night in favor of winchester and fedoruk....I realize they had a lot of centers on the roster, but Stu played on the 4th line and he can play anything you ask him to play and Ott can go in the middle.

I am still pissed. I sat in my seat for a while, contemplating the meaning of season tickets and all the things that go with that.
Really...they didn't deserve the point they got tonight. So I guess that's a good thing,
I am seriously worried about Modano, Lehtinen, and Bouche.

wow, and i thought last night sucked.
nothing like a 45 degree angle, three quarter the way up the shaft deflection with a second and a half left after two of your veterans take lazy penalties to screw up a really good debut for stephan. he was good - a little wildass - but good nonetheless.
"he has thieving giraffe legs tonight."

Um. Y'all know what kind of Stars homer I am, right? Well, I...kinda think this team sucks. That was awful. They all owe Stephan an apology.

From DMN blog...
Quote:
However, for much of the practice, it looked like the Stars were throwing out:
Jokinen-Modano-Hagman
Morrow-Ribeiro-Lehtinen
Lundqvist-Halpern-Miettinen
Fedoruk-Barnes-Barch
Winchester-Ott-Eriksson
He could do some shuffling with the bottom two lines, but my guess is that Fedoruk is playing against the Ducks.
The Stars also tried some new pairs on defense. Of course, this could all change tomorrow, but it looked like this:
Norstrom-Zubov
Daley-Boucher
Niskanen-Robidas.
I've been interested in seeing Norstrom with Zubov. The two seem like they would be a good fit.
|
From Flacolaco on 10/3/07:
Quote:
....And mark my words here on day 1....Zubov will end up with Norstrum at some point this season.

Ducks tonight @ the AAC
The game is on channel 27 tonight locally. It's the first big test. I wonder how they will respond....

Solid win. It's kind of alarming that we're in first place, considering we really aren't playing that well. They did what they needed to do & took advantage of Anaheim's injuries.
From the game recep:
Quote:
...Dallas began a stretch of 10 of its next 11 games against Pacific Division competition. ...

That was a fun one to watch.
And who in the flying phuck were those refs? Terrible calls tonight on Bouche. Freaking terrible.
Good effort, and good win. I like to see them mix it up like that. Marty didn't even need to do too terribly much, but looked solid, and he actually made more defensive plays than a lot of the Stars. Lots of dump and chase by the Ducks.....sorry Anaheim, not in our house.
Tough schedule coming up. And yet another FOUR DAYS OFF until thursday. Grrr.
