Grizzlies sign Croatian guard
July 17, 2002 MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Gordan Giricek, the Croatian guard who spent last season with CSKA Moscow of the Russian Super League, signed with the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. ``He is a sharpshooter who is athletic and will bring additional quality depth to our outside shooting positions,'' Grizzlies president Jerry West said. Memphis acquired the rights to the 6-foot-6 player from San Antonio in June for a 2004 second-round pick and an undisclosed amount of cash. Dallas selected Giricek in the second round of the 1999 draft, then traded him to San Antonio. The 25-year-old guard will join the Grizzlies' summer league team in Utah on Saturday.
