UNofficial: Jason Kidd to the Mavericks for Harris..
http://cbs.sportsline.com/
I think this is worthy of the new thread because it is official. Gave up too much.

mother...
that's really alotttttttttt to give up. guess go for the gold while still can. but this really hurts the future as its nowitzki/kidd combo and later just josh instead of having josh/devin enter their prime togehter.

"The Nets agree to trade All-Star point guard Jason Kidd and Malik Allen to the Mavericks for Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse, Devean George, DeSagana Diop, Maurice Ager, two first-round picks and cash, sources tell Tony Mejia of CBSSports.com."
We're screwed.

At least we kept Fazekas who I still think is a Diamond in the rough. With Kidd setting him up, I'm even more optimistic. Still stick to my stomach losing Harris.

The Nets are expected to buy out Stackhouse's contract immediately, which could enable him to re-sign with Dallas if he waits 30 days, and ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard reports that the Nets and the Mavs are likewise poised to complete a separate trade that will send swingman Antoine Wright to Dallas for a future second-round pick.

Waiting for a second source before I call it..
Like getting Kidd. Instantly makes Dirk, Josh, Jet, Damp and random swingmen better.
Don't like giving up Devin, at all. Who guards Nash & Parker?
Need a backup C, BAD.
Need a 2 guard.

It's on ESPN. How's that for a 2nd source?

I will say this, if the rumors of Antoine Wright for a second round pick are true, that makes me feel a little better. If that happens, then it's clearly a case where the Mavs demanded something of value back, but they couldn't make it work in one deal, so they brokered a smaller second deal.
It would help explain the excess in talent and picks being sent away, I think.
Also, as much as I hate this trade long term, I definitely don't agree with the "/season" comments. This will almost certainly rejuvenate Kidd, and I think we have, at the very least, a very similar shot at a title as we had before the trade, if not slightly better.
It's the next 5 years after this one that have me worried.

I am the biggest Devin fan around, I've always felt the Mavericks were stunting his growth. However, the truth of the matter is, we are currently a second tier team in the NBA whether you like it or not--no longer considered with the elite company in my opinion. The addition of Jason Kidd would give us instant respectability and puts us right into legitimate contention again. I will be sad to see the 24 year old Devin go because I think he is extremely gifted physically, has a lot of game ahead of him, and will be a really good player when its all over, but Kidd is a bona-fide superstar in this league today (although he doesn't get that much love in the West because of Nash/Paul/Deron/Baron). With Kidd on the team, Jason Terry may turn from my most hated Maverick to my most loved Maverick. There will be a lot less of the stagnant isolation plays for Howard or Dirk at the top of the key, and a lot more pick and roll basketball, which will open up lanes for our slashers, create wide open perimeter shots, and garner offensive rebound opportunities for our big men from the weakside. Kidd will dominate the ball in the playoffs preventing any of the zone converages Dirk sees where literally 4 - 5 guys on the other team are paying atttention to his every move.
The biggest loss in this potential trade may not even be Devin Harris. It may turn out to be Diop, since his loss makes us extremely thin at the center position.
starting 5
Kidd, Jones, Howard, Dirk, Damp
bench
Terry, Bass, Hassell
this is what I would write if I still posted on www.dallas-mavs.com

They say that until the thing is literally done. This is done--ESPN doesn't put "breaking news" headlines for trades that don't get done.

I think we just figured out why Diop was in the dog house. Saving him for the Nets I guess.

WTF?
This is a desperation roll of the dice. I can't believe that our GM got took to this degree. NOBODY gives full value for a player who asked to be traded. Nobody except our fool of a GM.

I agree, though, at the same time, our advantage over the Spurs doesn't matter if we never reach the conference finals to play them...

Has anyone else noticed that this trade doesn't work salary wise??
Diop, George, Ager, Harris and Stackhouse does not match up with Kidd and Allen. Even if you throw Wright into the trade it still doesn't work.
What the hell is going on??
EDIT: Nevermind, this trade does work salary wise.

my initial reaction is that this trade is awful. nash/parker/williams/paul are going to eat our lunch. its a knee jerk reaction and a ridiculous trade.

did alby every announce why he left?
The more I think about it, the more I don't hate this. Okay so we lost Devin for Kidd. We couldn't have played them both anyway. We also lost 2 backup players. Diop hurts a lot more than George. Losing Ager is a plus. Losing the picks sucks too but we're thinking about now.
Kidd only cost one starter which is good... We still have Howard and Dirk. And they are going to be sooooo much better because of Kidd.
Just imagine Kidd feeding an open Dirk for 3. Man, this could be fun.
