I really, really like Tyson. I hope he's around here in Dallas throughout the rest of Dirk's career.

A great double post!
I went and read/translated the critics report of this documentary. I cannot wait to see it.

Negotiations to firm up the details about the film's U.S. release are in the final stages, but we can share a few highlights of the production in the interim:
• Finley on the close understanding between Nowitzki and Geschwindner: "Their relationship is a very unique one. It's like the Mad Scientist and Frankenstein. I can remember watching some of their workouts early in Dirk's career and I just didn't understand what they were doing [or] why they were doing it. But once you get to talk to Holger and Dirk and understand the importance of each move they do, each breathing technique they do, you understood."
• Nowitzki's wife, Jessica, on the same subject: "They sort of have this relationship where they understand each other without even talking to each other. ... We call it in Swedish telepathie. I don't know, maybe they have their own language."
• Geschwinder acknowledges, in response to criticism of his unconventional methods and his unflattering reputation in some corners as the "Einstein of basketball," that he has been referring to his office for years as the "Institute of Applied Nonsense" ... replete with business cards carrying that title.
• Nowitzki's former German Nike rep and close friend Ingo Sauer shares that one of Dirk's father Joerg's old handball trophies is displayed in a more prominent place in his parents' house than Dirk's 2007 MVP trophy.
• Dirk's mother, Helga, debuted for the German national women's basketball team in 1966 and tells the story about frequently keeping her son near the bench in a stroller while she was playing after his birth in June 1978.
• Former USC coach and Nike director of basketball George Raveling re-tells the old story of how Nowitzki ducked out of town right before a playoff game for his hometown Wurzburg X-Rays -- who were in the process of trying to qualify for Germany's top division -- to come to America in the spring of 1998 for the Nike Hoop Summit in San Antonio that ultimately cemented Nowitzki as an NBA lottery pick. Recalling how Dirk's mentor showed up at the Nowitzkis' home early in the morning to whisk him off to America, Joerg Nowitzki says: "That's Geschwindner for you."
• Don Nelson on Nowitzki's rookie season, laughing as he recalled shrugging off Dirk's concerns about his early NBA struggles and imitating the youngster's accent: "So he came to me and he said, 'Oh, I think I want to go home.' That was the most dramatic thing that happened that year."
• Cuban on buying the Mavericks from Ross Perot Jr. in January 2000: "There wasn't really a lot of negotiation. I wanted the team. This was during the Internet go-go bubble. And the funny behind-the-scenes fact is that there would be days when the stock price of our company [Broadcast.com] would go up 20 dollars [or] 30 dollars and that would pay for the whole price of the Mavericks. That's how crazy the stock market was. And so I really didn't negotiate. I said, 'How much you want for it?' [Perot] gave me a price -- $285 million -- and I said yes. And that was over."
• Dirk himself on why he has consistently refused more off-the-court opportunities as a brand endorser: "They'd be pulling me by the nose all summer."
• Joerg Nowitzki reveals that Dirk, after all of his NBA riches, still goes to his mother to get money when he's back home in Germany for the summer. "It's crazy," Joerg says, "but that's how it is."

With one minor exception (gotta work on that left wing 3, Dirk), Nowitzki outshoots league averages by a wide margin everywhere on the court. The same cannot be said for Curry or Durant. Nowitzki integrates volume, efficiency, and ubiquity better than anyone right now.

The Sixers return to action on Thursday when they take on the Mavericks in Dallas.
Waiting for them is a Mavs squad that is sitting at 5-3 and led by a superstar that continues to reach more career milestones. Dirk Nowitzki scored 23 points in the Mavs’ win over the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night to pass Hakeem Olajuwon for ninth place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list and become the league’s highest-scoring player born outside born outside of the United States.
Nowitzki now has 26,953 career points. He is averaging 20.8 points per game so far this season.
When Sixers head coach Brett Brown was an assistant with San Antonio, part of his job was to scout the Mavericks when the Spurs were getting ready to play them.
Nowitzki has such a unique set of skills, Brown felt his homework sometimes became irrelevant because the 7-footer was unstoppable.
"I look back at my days battling through Dallas. First there was Kobe (Bryant). How do you guard that? Dirk came in at 7-foot, and you couldn't guard him in pick-and-roll. If you switched, (Don Nelson) Nellie used to roll him right to the nail and he would do this with Tony Parker on him,” Brown said with his arm stretched high in the air to demonstrate.
"With his height and his ability to shoot, he is such a lethal scorer. What he has done over his career for a man of his size and his ability to shoot, he was borderline impossible to guard. He made everyone around him better. He created so much attention.”
For his career, Nowitzki has averaged 22.5 points a night while shooting 47.7 percent from the field and 38.3 percent from behind the arc. Now in his 17th season, he has averaged 8.1 rebounds and 6.2 free throw attempts a game.
Given the youth on the Sixers' roster, any appreciation players have for the 36-year-old comes from watching highlights of Nowitzki over the years on TV.
"He has a different play style, nothing like mine," Nerlens Noel said. "I respect his Euro-style play that he brought to America. He is a great player, and he will be in the Hall of Fame soon."
Michael Carter-Williams' admiration for the 7-foot sharpshooter was similar to Noel's.
"Dirk is unbelievable," Carter-Williams said. "I have been watching him since I was a little kid. He has been unbelievable for Dallas with what he has done. He won a championship for them. He is a unique player who does a lot of good things on the court. He brought to the game something no one else has with his shot at his size."

I wonder if any starting lineup around Dirk Nowitzki has made things so easy for him. I won't suggest that Jameer Nelson is the best starting point guard that he has had. He is somewhere behind Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Nick Van Exel, and potentially Jose Calderon. Regardless of the fact, I like what I am seeing from him.
Then there is Monta Ellis. He was absolutely fantastic last season. 19 PTS, 3.6 TRB, 5.7 AST, 1.7 STL, and 0.3 BLK per game. He easily topped O.J. Mayo's season in Dallas, and Michael Finley didn't put up 19 PPG since 2002-03. Josh Howard put up over 19 PPG only one season while in Dallas in 2007-08.
The best big small forward to play next to Dirk has to be Antawn Jamison during a season most Mavs fans want to forget. That shall change this season with Chandler Parsons.
And we all know how Tyson Chandler can perform in a Mavs uniform! This season will be one for the ages.

"What else can I do at 36 when the feet slow down a little bit? Try to be even quicker with the shot, because once you get older, you don't jump as high and the first step is slower. Shooting quicker should help my game for the back end of my career. And if it doesn't work [out well], I'll just go back to the old way."

Wow. There will never be another Dirk. Just amazing how ridiculously humble he is.

I thought the same thing. Dirk almost went 50/40/90 last year. I'm curious to see who the 20 better players are.

I'm not sure if this video has ever been posted in here. It's from this year's spring. If it was already discussed on this board, respectively this thread, the mods should feel free to delete it.
It was on the Conan Show, Dirk was doing a "Texas citizenship" test with him. Very funny, laughed my butt off.
See here.

Dirk Nowitzki — One-Legged Fadeaway
Dirk’s one-legged fadeaway is a special sort of move; the kind of move that’s so inextricably linked with its owner that just the outline of it — with Dirk’s features grayed out — would still be recognizable. One, perhaps two hard dribbles, a half-spin, then a pivot away from the defender and a balletic hop off the back foot. Swish. It’s the most singular signature move in the game, and, combined with Dirk’s 7-foot frame, totally unstoppable. Whether he misses or not is in the hands of the basketball gods. Dirk and his fadeaway went through the 2011 playoffs like the hero in a martial arts movie fighting an entire dojo, culminating in a 48-point masterpiece against OKC in the Western Finals. Dirk drew fouls on practically the entire Thunder team. He went on to win a title over the newly formed “not one, not two” Miami Heat. The greatest testament to the devastating effectiveness of Dirk’s signature move? Its imitation by those who have felt its wrath.

Heh..
"Sticky at crunch time: The Mavericks forced seven turnovers and allowed the Pelicans to shoot just 22.2 percent (4-of-18) in the fourth quarter. After a dismal third quarter, they ratcheted up the defense and they drew three offensive fouls. Even Dirk Nowitzki got into the act, although he couldn’t really take credit for the charge he took. “I just couldn’t get out of the way quick enough,” he joked."
