I'm surprised Dallas fans are as confident they could beat the Spurs this time around. They lost Diop (who was a big part of that playoff run despite what he turned into) and Harris while the Spurs gained Mason and Hill. No idea what kind of impact Gooden will have yet.
I don't mean we should fear them but I'd much rather face the Rockets first.

We are much more likely to take the Spurs to six games than the Lakers.
We are much more likely to beat the Rockets than the Spurs.

The NBA is less about who's "better" than just about any other sport. It's about matchups. And we matchup WAY better against the Spurs than the Rockets.
The Rockets have two guys that guard Dirk as well as anyone in basketball. And the one that isn't guarding Dirk will absolutely make Josh's life miserable. Josh struggles mightily against good defenders.
The Spurs have never, ever had an answer for Dirk. The closest thing they ever had (Bowen) is now a shell of an NBA player.
I don't think we'd beat either team in a series, but I definitely give us a better chance against the Spurs.

Wow, Randolph now has two of the worst shots I've ever seen in the NBA.

I think people still have the series from a couple of years ago fresh on their mind. I'd rather face the Rockets to be honest. I can't sit through a series watching Parker go for 35 against us. I guess it would matter if Ginobilli is playing or not. A hurt Ginobilli could benefit the Mavs. I'd like to think anyway. A Rockets team even without T-Mac is damn solid. Not as tough as the Spurs though.

I agree with what you're saying and i've heard others say the same here in allas but I don't think the Mavs matchup with the Spurs at all. Not anymore anyway. Dirk could go off for 50 points and it still wouldn't be enough. We gotta get more consistency scoring wise. I think where the Spurs kill teams is that they now like to run with run and gun teams and after you realize they can run with you they make you slow it down which plays to their strength. I think the Mavs best bet is the transition game. Just run all game long. I see the Rockets being a better matchup for the Mavs. I actually think the Mavs match up with them alot better than the Spurs. But i'd love to get the Spurs in the 1st round. Seems like the Suns, Spurs and Mavs always give it everything they have against each other. Can't recall too many bad games between those 3 teams.

I agree with this. Houston just has more defensive weapons that could actually D-Up Dirk, Josh or Jet. San Antonio has spurts where they could get Dirk and they'll try to make things more difficult for Jet but then Josh will be able to still make them pay. They have cracks in their rotation that still allow Dallas to attack on offense.
Houston has Battier, Artest, and Scola who can give our guys fits. I think we can beat either team...but I like our chances more vs the Spurs.

That series would be such a grind it out one...I can't imagine the scores in that one if they really D it up. I'd imagine Ron-Ron would blow a gasket somewhere along the line as well, more than likely in a game in Utah.

Lakers continue to roll without Bynum. It's going to be tough for any team to go into LA and beat them.

Is Tracy Mcgrady going to play?
That is why nobody wants to face the Rockets now.

That actually was a mistake. Not sure where the D went. I don't think the Mavs have d but I always thought the whole "Allas" bit was corny.

Duncan, Parker, and Mason laid all kinds of eggs in the first half against the Lakers. Parker bounced back and Duncan had a flash or two in the 2nd half but it wasn't enough to beat the Lakers. I give them props for making a game of it but too many mistakes down the stretch cost them.
Gooden looked good in his 3 1/2 minutes at the end of the first half with 2 pts on 1-1 shooting and 4 rebounds. I find it interesting that Pop never did play him again. He could have helped them in that 2nd half.

The Sun is set on Phoenix.
Unless they get on a ridiculous hot streak, and either Dallas/Portland/Denver/Utah/New Orleans completely collapse; they won't be sniffing the playoffs.
