Boozer, opt out in summer of 2009
Carlos Boozer can opt out of the final year of his deal this off season.
What are the odds that he opts out? And could the Mavs land him?
Jason Kidds huge deal is off the books this year right? Could the Mavs sign boozer with that money? Maybe also offer kidd a deal too..obviously, less.
what do you think ?

Love to have him, won't get him...
(but I like how you're thinking!)

As a backup PF? Sure I'd take him.
Not sure how he fits any other way.

If we lose kidd, who's going to run the point?
I know kidd still has a couple of years left in him.

Yeah, this kinda falls into Bosh-to-Dallas territory - if Nellie were still here, sure...
(you'd need a system where your center is a 3-point bomber who doesn't play a lick of defense...)

Did not Boozer royally screw over the Cavs a few years ago? Wonder if he regrets that move now?
He has decent game but is hurt too much.

The rumor early in the season (before he got hurt) was that he was looking to jump to Miami. They appear to have the short term contracts to work a sign and trade work but I'm not sure how bad they want him.

he'll opt out, say the mavs look like a great team that he would want to be on, then sign with LA or Cleveland or Boston or Orlando. or some crappy team.

I would love to see Cleveland make a public declaration, on the opening day of free agency, that they're extending an offer to Carlos Boozer for the full league minimum, with a team option for years 2 and 3.

Wouldn't that be something if he went to Cleveland, haha.
I think he goes East, so that makes it a possibility, but still have to look at Miami as one of the top spots.

Nah, thanks. He's a good player if healthy, but right now it seems that even Greg Oden has a better health than Boozer.

We will still be over the cap even with Kidd's contract off the books.

It's projected around $57.3mil (this season was $58.68mil...)
The Mavs payroll is currently $93.2mil...
I don't think the salary cap equates into Mark Cuban's reality, so there's no need to stress it as long as he's still willing to break the bank in pursuit of a ring...

The guy the Mavs need is Charlie Villanueva, he can play small forward when Dirk is on the floor with him at power forward at the defensive end. On the offensive end Villanueva is a beast in the post as the power forward while Dirk becomes the small forward at the offensive end. We should offer the full MLE for Charlie Villanueva if we can't work on a sign and trade for him with Milwaukee. If we do a sign and trade and indeed get him, then we use the full MLE on Ron Artest. We go into the draft and draft an Aaron Brooks clone ala Ty Lawson, Johnny Flynn, or Patrick Mills. Jason Kidd looks exposed with our current team when we play against athletic teams. Kidd needs to be in a situation where all four guys around are scoring athletes to cover up his offensive deficiencies.
Terry/Artest/Villanueva/Dirk/Hollins ?
(Lawson,Flynn,or Mills)/Redd/Jefferson/Singleton/Bass ?
Barea/Green ?
Williams ?
Out goes: Damp/Stack/Howard/Wright/Carroll/Cash/ to Bucks?

Booze screwed over the Cavs and has missed so many games with the Jazz that you would not want a cancer like this. Boozer also tends to cower and not perform when in big games. Last years playoffs after the Rockets series was evidence of this enough. If you want a guy that will miss 25% (at least) and plays no defense at all then Booze is your man.
