Don?t know why people think we need wings. If anything we?re now desperately short on PGs and it?s still unclear if Wood can even play C.

Because Bullock and DFS are the only guys that were playable in the playoffs, and Kidd had to run them into the ground. Now if Josh Green can actually turn into a respectable NBA player, the problem is pretty much solved. But we haven't seen that yet. I'm crossing my fingers, but I won't believe it until I see it.
Edit: You are definitely right about PGs though. Before, Dragic seemed like just a little extra assurance. With Brunson gone though, we NEED Dragic. And to put a finer point on it, we need him to be healthy and still decent. I feel like that's a lot to hope for.

Yes I get everyone's point about irreplaceable asset and we're capped out blah blah blah. All I know is we can't give away THJ at $17m. Signing JB at $28m puts a hard ceiling on our squad.

I've never seen anyone become untradeable though. I mean we ended up with Bertans the worst contract in the league. I'd rather have JB at 27 than not at all that's for sure. I feel a lot better about this team with him on it then without.

I personally don't think you can be serious bout contending having both Bullock and DFS getting 40 minutes a night in the playoffs. Its a actual joke and I'm fan of both guys but that's not it.

I don?t see Dragic doing much at all in Dallas. Few years too late

Whereas we needed a center and another wing to take pressure off Bullock/DFS, now we need a pg too

If he can get even close to his 2021 production, he would help a lot. Even this season, he still averaged nearly 5 assists a game in his limited time. The playmaking ability is still there. It's just a matter of if he can stay healthy. It's certainly possible he can't.

Man, if ever we needed to find a diamond in the rough, now is the time. I'm hoping to god this kid Hardy has the type of potential he seems to and he can realize it. The Mavs will never succeed with Luka being the only versatile offensive guard.

I agree. Nico has his hands full if he's truly trying to compete this year.

I don't either. Not sure what excitement people are getting from Dragic....if he's getting anything more than 10 minutes a night here its a fail.

My buddy got to watch him a lot in high school here in Vegas, thinks he could be the real deal.

Honestly, barring some unexpected miracle, I'm already kind of writing off next season as far as seriously contending goes. Sure we'll make the playoffs, but I feel like we're back in the 6-7 seed range.

Who the f*** is excited? This isn't excitement, it's desperation. Again though, in fairness to him, he's still got it as a playmaker. For the few games he did play this season, he definitely wasn't washed.

I'm really confused to how his stock dropped to the 2nd round when he was considered a top 5 prospect in high school.
So if they allowed for him to enter the draft out of high school he would've been a top 5 pick. Has solid production against NBA level talent in G League and now he's a 2nd rounder.
I mean even if he did bust he's a 2nd round pick its just a very odd story. I mean I've seen it happen before...typically the G League doesn't hurt these guys stock. Ahh well...our fortune.

I don't totally hate the idea of having to give the kid some time this year.
You got Kidd, Dragic, and Luka here to mentor him. Some of the greatest minds there are in terms of guard play.
Mavs need some draft picks to pay off. That's why it stings so bad to have Jalen leave" he's literally one of two good picks the Mavs have had this decade. It seems like most teams have 1-2 a year.

Yeah I don't think the Mavs are that desperate. I can see the Lakers looking at him but for this Mavs team I honestly don't see the perks of Dragic. He looked washed to me with the Nets....granted, a lot of guys did for them but I still would take him as a last resort type move. The first signing for this team should not be a player of Dragic's caliber.

How many guys jump from the G League right from high school though? I feel like it's an extremely small sample size. I think people just looked just looked at his lousy percentages and wrote him off. FWIW, Nico says he and the front office were amazed that team after team kept passing on him. They expected him to lik 18 or 19, or at the very most, late in the 1st.

Yeah you look at most contenders....one thing that is consistent is they hit on their draft picks. You have to hit on these players..you won't always do it but it helps to have the picks. And there's been a bunch of late 1st rounders/early 2nd rounders it seems these past few years come right in and look to contribute. Hardy looks like he can be that next guy. I guess it will depend on his development.

#2 on ESPN. Not sure what to make of it. Interviews with teams? He's a 6-4 shooting guard. Jalen Green played for the same GLeague squad a year ago. Hardy did get off to a slow start in the GLeague, shot efficiency was a knock, raw skill wise, but gifted athletically. Saw a couple mocks with him going in the 20's. At the end of the day....he's here and I will take it.

It's such a small sample size, I assume everyone just saw his lousy percentages and had a collective kneejerk.

UD and I still talk on twitter, and he asked why the Mavs would work him out whnn there was no way he falls to 26. Welp.
This kid still needs a lot of development, but the raw talent is big.

When I was operating under the assumption that Brunson was coming back, I figured he'd get only garbage minutes this year. With Brunson gone though, he could get real minutes this year. Judging by his improvement over his time in the g-league, maybe a trial by fire isn't the worst thing for him. Kidd seems to be the opposite of Carlisle when it comes to young players.
I also found out today that not only did he jump right from high school to the g-league, but he also missed his entire senior year because of covid. So it makes sense then that the adjustment for him was so extreme.

We'll probably end up with Dragic and nothing else.
Least we got Wood or this summer would be a disaster.

I can't speak on his stats. I'm just speaking on the DNP's he racked up and watching him play. He just looked like a players on his last legs. I think the second to last game I saw him play in the playoffs....he had a great game...but for the most part his time last year was MID...he's in ring chasing mode....
I think they have a few trade pieces......Would a team be interested in your 1st and Tim? Maybe not. DFS and Kleber both have solid contracts. We know they probably won't net much in return..Powell is a expiring deal. They can get creative.
I dont' know I guess I just sort of have a bad taste in my mouth with how they typically go about free agency......the Bullock's of the world. If they're in desperate mode now then Dragic wouldn't be bad but are we talking about vet. minimum here?

I'm all for it. It was a no brainer trading to get him. Excited about him. I like the narrative that he's going to have a chip on his shoulder as well. The Rashard Lewis chip lol.

That is my understanding, yes. It would be Dragic for the vet min, and for the TPMLE they're looking at Gary Payton II.

Let me tell you how bad of a decision this is for Brunson. I'm playing COD cold war after work with my gaming friends, medium to zero NBA knowledge people. When I told them about this, without hesitation, all of them said how awful the Knicks were. Why would he choose that. None of them from Dallas.
Weird.

And I'm sure it was no accident that Hardy had a small press conference today knowing the Brunson news would break.

I mean I get it. His pops is there, he wants a bigger role...and while most think low of the franchise....its still the Knicks. Its still the Garden. And I think guys go there thinking what if they're the ones who can bring that title back to the Knicks. I see some perks to it for Brunson. And if it doesn't work out? Ask for a trade to a contender. Typically how these things go.
