walked into wal-mart at 12:30 and was in and out in about 10 minutes.
they were giving away these bracelets. of the rubber, lance armstrong variety. One for each of the houses - red, green, blue, yellow. i wonder if those will pop up on ebay. i got one of each.
now to read.

I was in the car by 12:07 last night from Barnes and Nobles in Lewisivlle, due to getting our bracelets early in the morning.
There were at least a couple of thousand people waiting outside when we walked to the car. poor bastards.

Do people really not realize there are alternatives? My wife and I went and saw a 10:00 movie at the Movie Grill in Lewisville, went straight to the Lewisville Walmart after it was over, and walked in and out with three books in 5 minutes.

You got me dude. I have no idea.
Like I said, we were in the car and home by 12:20 for a few hours of reading.
But when we walked through that throng of people, I held those books tight bc those idiots standing in the back looked hungry......morons
lol
I was glad we went though. We showed up around 10 or so just for the fun of it. Saw some pretty good costumes, and some pretty funny kids. The "mania" was amusing. We discussed some theories with a few different groups of people, and read HBP. it was fun.

Yeah, new thread for spoilers/questions. I finished it this morning. Read a little the first night, then during the day yesterday, then last night. Fell asleep last night with 2 chapters to go, but woke up around 4 AM (on my own) to finish.
Guess I just really wanted to finish.
As for the book buying options - I understand that standing in line at B&N is fun for some people, but I think it reaches the point of not being fun when there are literally hundreds of people in line.

I finally saw OOTP about a week ago, just now getting around to posting about it.
Over all, I agree that it was the best so far. I think they did a better job of keeping the general progression of things intact. A few things that did bother me though:
The DeathEaters flying around like spirits and crap. I mean, seriously, what is that all about?
I thought they forced in the line from Dumbledore about choice. They didn't show us Harry struggling with that concept, and who he was. They should've just left it out.
I thought they made Umbridge too...funny. They didn't really get across just how horrible she was, I don't think. Admittedly there isn't enough time to really do justice to just how misersable things were at Hogwarts, but I think a few tweaks with her character would have helped.
Do you ever wonder if they had two finalist to play Harry way back when, and just barely went with Radcliff? If so, they must be kicking themselves, because he's just a horrendous actor, imo.
That's all. I'm very curious to see how the next two books turn out. I wish they could break away from the kiddie feel altogether and make them 3 hour masterpiecess, but the main actors don't have the chops for it, and they wouldn't do it anyway.

I think Radcliffe has improved a lot. I don't mind him so much anymore, but maybe I'm just used to him. I agree that this movie was probably the best....although I don't know. I saw Prisonzer of Azkaban on TV this week and I must admit I do like that one a lot. Also, the 4th movie set the bar for C-R-A-P, so that helped this film out a lot comparatively.
After reading the 7th book (2 and a half times now) I think that they are totally phucked as a movie studio. I simply cannot imagine how they're going to turn that into a movie.
They have to cave, and make a 3 hour 20 minute movie (like Return of the King). They just have to. I see no way around it.
****BOOK 6 SPOILERS******
I can't wait to see Snape kill Dumbledore on the big screen. I hope they do that justice.

yeah, i caught POA on ABC family this weekend. I like that movie as well. 3 and 5 are the best of the series. 4 is pretty bad, which is a shame, because it's a great book.
both the deatheaters and Order were flying around like spirits. yes, very weird, but pretty cool looking, especially on the 3D IMAX.
Radcliffe certainly isn't an amazing actor, but I agree with Flaco in that he's improved a great deal. i can at least tolerate him on screen now.
child actors are hit or miss... It's rare to find a great one, especially one that has to fit people's idea of a popular character. They made an investment with the kid to go through the entire series. hell, even in the first movies, he was light years better than Jake Lloyd. Actually, I honestly can't think of any GREAT child actors recently.
Haley Joel Osment was in an entertaining movie, but i wouldn't call him a good actor.
Not Macauley Culkin (maybe his brothers, though. I like them).
Maybe Walt from Lost? WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLT! Just kidding.
Shia Lebeouf has gotten better, but he was more comedy as a child.
I'm probably overlooking a big one...

I dunno. Maybe it's because I think he's significantly worse than the other two, that I find it so irritating.
I might need to watch PoA again. I remember being really disappointed the first time I saw it.

I highly doubt it.
If there is, count me out.
I'll order that one on the internet.
But I wouldn't expect that to be for between 5 and 10 years.

I did mention Lebeouf, and i think he has expanded his acting chops lately. When he was a kid, he did mostly comedies. And Lebeouf certainly doesn't seem very harry potterish.

Would yall mind seeing a Harry Potter Television Series? Like 1 hour week..during primetime..7 seasons..one for each book. They can make it a lot more detailed than the movie..and more true to the books..I would probably watch it!

To make an acceptable Potter copy for TV, the production values would have to be astronomical in cost. When you consider the long lost of A-list actors in the movies, (Maggie Smith, Coltrane, Oldman, Fiennes, Rickman, Gleeson, Gambon.... it goes on and on and on) it just seems like anything like that just wouldn't be up to par.
There's definitely enough content, you're right about that.

I am sceptical about how good it would be. But there's no doubt I would be dvr'ing every episode.

Okay.... as I've said I'm reading the books again. I finished GOF last night (and would like to reiterate that it's my favorite book) but I noticed an inconsistency regarding Thestrals. IF Harry saw them when leaving Hogwarts he certainly doesn't mention them. It is noted for certain that the carriages are "horseless".
Has she ever explained why?
Also, as a note to mary.... so far through 4 books Ron is uncomfortable whenever Harry uses Voldemort's name.

Ron is always uncomfortable about saying his name.
If you go back and read all the books, there will be lots of inconsistencies like that which you have to just ignore. Hagrid tells Harry in the first book that James was head boy. Sirius tells Harry later that Lupin the only prefect in the group, and James is clearly portrayed as more of a jokester, like Fred and George.
There are plenty of other little things like that, I'll try to remember a few more.

I think the official line on that one is that Harry was still shocked or processing the death.....or some crap line like that.
The real excuse is, she didn't want to explain thestrals in the last chapter of a book.

Breaking news!
Albus Dumbledore is gay.
http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/20...nd-scores-more
Quote:
First, the biggest revelation of the night came when Jo revealed to her audience the fact that Albus Dumbledore is gay and had fallen in love with fellow wizard and friend, Gellert Grindelwald. This elicited a huge reaction and prolonged ovation. So much so, it promoted Jo to say:
"If I had known this would have made you this happy, I would have told you years ago."
The question was: Did Dumbledore, who believed in the prevailing power of love, ever fall in love himself?
JKR: My truthful answer to you... I always thought of Dumbledore as gay. [ovation.] ... Dumbledore fell in love with Grindelwald, and that that added to his horror when Grindelwald showed himself to be what he was. To an extent, do we say it excused Dumbledore a little more because falling in love can blind us to an extend, but he met someone as brilliant as he was, and rather like Bellatrix he was very drawn to this brilliant person, and horribly, terribly let down by him. Yeah, that's how i always saw Dumbledore. In fact, recently I was in a script read through for the sixth film, and they had Dumbledore saying a line to Harry early in the script saying I knew a girl once, whose hair... [laughter]. I had to write a little note in the margin and slide it along to the scriptwriter, "Dumbledore's gay!" [laughter] "If I'd known it would make you so happy, I would have announced it years ago!"

Well that's a bit disappointing. I suppose it makes sense in part. I always wondered about that.
But still, 7 wonderful books, all gay free.

I'm going to try not to think about that. And when I have children, I certainly won't be sharing that part. Luckily it's not actually in a book.

So..... you are essentially saying that there is a CHANCE that you and Dumbledore could be an item? I mean, if he were still living?
And I was being sarcastic with my last post. I always figured that Albus was too involved in saving the world from evil to be concerned with a love life. I wonder if he made advances on Tom, therefore sending him over the top evil?
Okay I will stop. stop stop stop.

That's kind of what I thought as well. It's not like Obi Won and Gandalf went out chasing tail. I just figured it was one of those wise old guy things.

yeah, why does it even matter? if this is true, and JK actually said this, why? why did she feel she had to come out with this? It doesn't make any sense.

Actually Obi-Wan had a forbidden relationship with Siri Tachi while he was a padawan.
