It's true that they wouldn't stop writing, but I would have to think a lack of media access and quotes would substantially impact the volume of Mavs stuff they write. You can only write so many quote-less analytical pieces.
I'd like to know what ESPNDallas's viewership numbers on their Mavs stuff is. Right now, I'm basically just speculating.

I guess I can let the cat out of the bag now:
Tonight is my last night at Mavs Moneyball. On Friday night I will be joining Mavs.com
I'll be working alongside Earl K. Sneed.

This is the first I've heard of this. I am so surprised by this news.
Serious congrats, BG. Well-deserved.

No, I will be doing exactly what I do right now as a freelancer but if everything goes ok, it will move into a legit gig starting next season.

I don't see how getting MacMahon out of the locker room would change the content at all. All he has to do is give credit for quotes gathered by someone else, or ESPN Dallas sends in a dry-assed beat writer to do a game story and Tim does a column every couple days using that guy's quotes. Either way, result is the same.
Only difference is Cuban doesn't have to see the guy. Which might be enough for him.

Congratulations BG! You deserve it.
Whenever I find the time to read articles about the Mavs, I always try to find the ones which you have written.
Thank you for all your hard work and input. This forum is very fortunate to have you.
Again, congratulations! I'm looking forward to reading more of your work.

BG's new job makes this all a nonissue anyway. He's going to singlehandedly render all outside Mavs coverage obsolete within the next 4-6 months.

Yes, explanation needed WITH pictures (especially if they're NSFW...)

Too cool, Bryan. What a great story. A self-made Mavs reporter! Much, much congrats.

After thinking about this some more during my run last night, I think my initial skepticism was wrong. I agree with Rhylan and thig now--if done correctly, Cuban could effectively remove the "paid bloggers" from the locker room and not lose much, if anything, in terms of coverage for the people who care.
I still don't really understand why he had to come at it like this and make it all personal ("Stop complaining! We win 50 games every year!" etc.), but I think the model in theory could definitely work.

Here's the story (as brief as I can make it):
As it has been mentioned, Mark Cuban had a "town hall" as I called it with the members of the media who were present on Wednesday afternoon. This wasn't the sole intention of the meeting. He was promoting a new phone application called Augmented Reality. The app looks really cool and is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what it actually become. After being asked several questions in regards to his blog, he decided to speak more on the issue after the initial conference was over. It mainly consisted of various members of the media.
As Rhylan mentioned earlier, he took offense to some of the banner comments on MMB and other things he has seen along the way...much of which I mentioned on twitter yesterday.
Clearly, he did not like those "messages" and he went ahead and had me voice those messages in front of the rest of the media and He said see, and then I quickly replied that:
I am just a writer for the site, not the manager. I've spoken to the manager on several occasions and voiced my opinion that those probably weren't the best ideas in terms of a banner. All I can do is voice my opinion but she is the boss.
Cuban understood my point of view. After the discussion is over I go up and continue to state my case about the situation. He respects my side of the story and decides to tell me to send him an email and a discussion can begin for an opportunity. We exchange a few emails within the span of 30 minutes and I end up having a chat with personnel prior to the game and I'm officially brought on board with Mavs.com
Anyways...I'll be freelancing with Earl over the duration of the season/playoffs. If everything goes well, the spot will become permanent and paying going into next season.

IDK, BG. I think you should have kept that town-hall meeting part secret. Mark comes off as a spoiled child or a over protective parent to 30+ year old men. I don't mind his insistence that writers who work for the team to put a positive spin on a tumultuous time, but free lancers should be able to call it like they see it.

That's the problem though, not all writers call it like they see it - some call it like they imagine it (or at least that seems to be the point that Cuban is trying to make...)

Oh, and congrats BG - Cuban must see something he likes in you (I think it's probably those chiseled good looks...)

What about the Outsider Report?
Are you and Rhylan going to keep doing that, or will you be too busy?

I'm in the process of trying to figure out what will happen with that. Thursday's special show (which everyone needs to go to) is still happening. As soon as I get more information on that, I'll be sure to let everyone know.

Then call them out individually. Why confront BG, Sefko, Stein, or Caplan when they have offered nothing less than balanced pieces.

I don't get the impression that he was calling them out at all... Without naming names, Cuban made some pretty clear delineations about the type of writers he was referring to - BG, Sefko, Stein and Caplan didn't fit the description.

Nice stuff, again congrats. Just remember how Peja came out of left field and how ugly the Kidd trade came out. Nice and clean, versus under the gun. I think it hurt the teams from doing business, when you have a man with a family being tossed around the trade board as going to so and so destination, then agents get involved and it turns ugly. Imagine how Tyson felt about the OK City deal.

MOR is in NO danger going forward. I've been told that the show has been well-received within the Mavs organization, so we're good.

Galloway even played some of the audio.. bits and pieces where Cubes mentioned that Galloway shows up every 7 years and still has an opinion (thus not requiring locker room access).. and Steve Dennis debating Cuban. Interesting stuff.

I wish it was a little more formal because I recorded it but I was a little too far away for it to be as audible as my usual stuff.
