Unfortunately there aren't enough Dirk, Lebron, Kobe types where it's all about the game. That's what separates the good from the greats. I don't blame Deron.

This is ridiculous

I am not a trainspotting "lover". But it just fits so nicely to this whole "big deal" drama.

The writing is on the wall man. Deron at the Nets practice facility appears to seal it. The Nets have probably "done enough" in his eyes, even without Dwight. And I agree that for his family this was the best decision, but if that is the case he shouldn't have lied and said it was about winning.

Anybody who trying to knock a Williams/Dwight/JJ trio is nit-picking.
That's a powerhouse on par with the Miami trio and most would say easier to build around, too. Just plug in a stretch four and a good swingman defender and hit play.

My logic is that they will not acquire Dwight, I don't believe they have the assets. Without him they are barely a top 4 seed if lucky.

They're not getting Howard.
It would be Deron/Johnson/Wallace mediocrity and cap hell for years to come.

Gerald Wallace? With Dwight Howard giving help defense?
Dwight/Deron/JJ/Wallace is arguably the best team in the NBA.
Thankfully that's very unlikely to happen.

How, exactly? Next season:
LeBron/Wade/Bosh = $52M
Deron/Dwight/JJ = $55M

Take a step back, people.
Deron Williams is 1A or 1B of point guards.
Dwight Howard is 1 of centers.
JJ, for all his salary, is still a top 5-7 SG (Kobe, Wade..., Eric Gordon?, Manu?, Harden?, Monta?).
They would have an easier time getting people to play there than Miami does. Freaking New York.
Freaking Nash is considering a SnT to NY just to be in NY. Kidd loves NY. Camby put NY in the tier of Miami/Dallas/Boston. It's a great city to be a star (yes, they're rough when you're losing but look how crazy Linsanity got).

Agree on it likely not happen.
I don't see Wallace being able to keep up with LeBron, especially if he takes him to the post. Sure, it leaves Howard as help, but LeBron has shown he can find ways that still put you on tilt.

No doubt, but the cap is the killer when it comes to team-building.

This whole thing is such a circus. It's kinda fun, but also a sort of depressing look into how the human mind works (myself included).

On paper, Wallace and Marion are about equal defenders but I'm not sure what you're asking when you ask "who will guard LeBron"?
I mean, almost nobody in the NBA can. Dwight would be the best guy to have behind you and Wallace is probably on a shortlist of guys you'd try 1 on 1 with him.
Agree with thiggy that it's a pie in the sky scenario for the Nets though. It would be on par with Miami's 2010 FA killing.

Suns allegedly going to offer 8-9M/yr to Dragic. I feel like he'd be worth the low end of that if the Mavs need a stopgap. Be even better to negotiate him down a bit, of course.

Nobody can guard LBJ. The whole team has to give him different looks, slow him down, make him tired.
Wallace/Dwight/Deron is as good as it gets in that regard. All of them are quick and physical...

They drafted Marshall and have high hopes for him, so I really don't know how it all jives with doing that and offering the lower end of the Dragic's preferred range.
Not sure if I read that as PR for losing Nash or just making a potentially silly move.

I like him the most after Deron. Nash would be fun for sentimental reasons but Dragic would be a long-term post-Dirk clog. I'd go higher for him.

Here is Jeff Caplan on Deron working out at Nets facility...
http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/maver...medium=twitter
What does it mean that Deron Williams is said to be working out at the Brooklyn Nets' training facility this morning as he's supposedly weighing the massive decision to either re-sign with the Nets or agree to join his hometown Dallas Mavericks?
ESPN.com's Chris Broussard tweeted that the a source tells him that Williams is indeed working out at the Nets' facility.
Is he saying good-bye to the few teammates remaining on the roster? Is he giving newest Net Joe Johnson a tour?
Would he really show up at the facility for a workout if he's on the verge of leaving for the Mavs?
The drama continues to unfold. A decision could come today. It could come Wednesday.
All we know is the Nets continue to try to pry Dwight Howard away from the Orlando Magic, a move that would surely solidify Williams' commitment to the franchise, if they haven't secured it already.
Stay tuned.

Not sure. But I do think he'd be worth 7-8/year. He's pretty damn good.
Course, he doesn't make the Mavs a contender, so who knows.

He thinks he's worth around 10. Apparently Houston offered 8 and the end result was saying they don't expect Dragic back.

Unfortunately, I don't think you can reasonably go much higher for him under the new CBA with a contract like Dirk's already on the books.

I think he's worth 10. If you get him for 9 you did good imo. Better get on this train before Deron decides he's going to the Nets in a couple days.

And what about the other end of the court?
They would be impossible to defend, too.
Deron and Dwight pick and roll all day. Another lob city.

Wade>Deron
Bosh> Joe

If he's asking for 10 up front, he's probably not actually worth 10 on the fair market, unless he has a crappy agent who doesn't understand how to negotiate.

I think he's a legit starting PG with All-Star potential. Definitely not in the elite class with but a cut below (5-10 range). Thinking of the Dallas version of Nash. That's worth 10 to me.

Deron > Wade.
Wade is on his way down. Deron is peaking.
Bosh <> Joe IMO but I suspect I am in a minority.
Plus, the fit works much better for Dwight/Deron/Joe.

That's irrelevant, where do you want him to work out while he is in the area? At a random park? Lebron was playing at cleveland facility as well, and many other free agents do the same, that means exactly nothing.
