Only reason I'm not on board with Rondo is because you can't risk him and Chandler missing significant portions of the season. Almost a given that both will miss twenty games a piece at least.

I would love to add Rondo to this team... problem is, we have basically no assets that Boston would want.

The assets that we can trade as a centerpiece for Rondo begin and end with Ellis... Otherwise, any Rondo talk should be put on hold until next summer, no matter if he gets traded before then.

Yeah, and the only reason they'd want Ellis would be if they were trying to start winning again... and if that was the case, why the heck would they want to trade Rondo?

I'd love to see us make a run at Rondo next year as a free agent...

That's when it makes the most sense, especially since Ellis will probably opt-out of his contract next summer... No worries about fitting with Rondo if he walks (and if he does, I'd go hard after both Rajon Rondo and Marc Gasol).

Well, some assets we have. And like i said, Rondos value is low. Kind of unhappy in Boston, UFA in 2015, coming back from injury...Rondo didnt net them a high pick in the lottery

Undecided on Melo. You can't send Dirk or Ellis to the bench but having Ellis, Melo, Dirk in at the same time would be hard to manage. I'd imagine Ellis running the plays penetrating and that leaves weapons in Dirk and Melo...lethal weapons.. I could see it working wonders or failing because of Melos ego and the bad defense.

I thought Ellis wouldn't work though and he pulled it together pretty greatly for playoffs.

Sounds like Wednesday is the day..
Sources say Anthony is likely to visit the Rockets first on Wednesday, followed by the Mavericks in the afternoon. ESPN.com - See more at: http://hoopshype.com/rumors/tag/dall....kXz2QMrB.dpuf

So if Melo goes to Houston they have Harden and Melo starting with scrubs as backups?

That should be hilarious defensively. The Games should end like 130-125 on a nightly basis.

I really hope that Houston offers that cnut sth. special so he decides early against the Mavs.

So i heard it reported that Melo will wait till next week to visit LA. Is that correct?
If so thats kind of confirmation of our worst fears- that he'll drag the process out thereby causing us to lose out on other players. Ok maybe not "worst fears". What will the timeline for Parsons look like? What if another team offers Parsons 4 for 40 while we're sitting around waiting for Melo?

He's liable to go to Chicago or Houston, so you folks saying that he's a "scrub" will likely be misguidedly thrilled.

If he comes to Dallas, Mavs fans will break their friggin' necks while rushing out to buy that "scrub's" jersey...

This pretty much sums it up.. including myself. I won't lie.. I have been the biggest advocate of pursuing Parsons, Hayward, or Stephenson, but just like others said.. if we swing and miss on a RFA we are likely to be sitting on the sidelines this off season. We are too close to miss that badly and getting Carmelo honestly seems more realistic than Houston letting us get Parsons from them.

I think my #1 scenario would be getting Bledsoe and maybe P.J .... but either way the next 3 days are going to be exciting.

‏@mdug: If I'm Mavs, I probably casually toss out the fact that Bulls have played 23 playoff games since the 2011 season. Rose played in 1 of them.

Carmelo still not out of the picture. I'll even buy his Mavs shirt jersey reppin the 7. Come at me, bro. Funny how this thread expanded till now where he's actually meeting with the front office.

I love Rondo but he makes no sense here.

If we trade Ellis for Rondo, we don't get that much better and it would probably also cost us at least one first rounder if not two.

If we are somehow magically able to get him without losing Ellis, I don't think he'd play well next to Ellis. Both guys need the ball to be successful. Neither has the size to play the SG. Neither has the jumper to keep teams honest. Plus it would also probably cost draft picks. I know we don't draft well, but those can be used in so many better ways.

Shouldnt we be looking for a SG then instead of a PG? Put Ellis at the point.

If we re-sign Harris, who's PG and who's SG? It's pretty much just 2 guards on the floor, no matter how you want to designate them.

Leaked photo of Carmelo reacting to seeing Rose workout...

I am SO positive Melo isn't coming to Dallas. I bet when all is said and done, Dallas is a distant third to Chi & Hou.

At least I'm not a Bucks fan.

@CoffeeDork: Really excited to hear about Houston showing off their iPads, humidity, shit traffic, murder rates and poverty levels to Carmelo.

@RobMahoney: I hope the Rockets and Bulls have a Photoshop consultant on-staff whose sole responsibility is to put every FA in their team's jersey.

@OrMoyal: Looking for sportsbook where I can lay $ on Mavs' pitch to Melo being Dirk, Cuban, Carlisle arms crossed as 'All I Do is Win' plays on loop.

@Windmill360: Mavs have no "legends" to pitch Melo.... Except the ones that are active NBA players/coaches on team. What's better than that?

Distant 4th. Behind resigning with NY. Just like all the other big FA.

Hope we can do Parsons. If Melo doesn't choose Houston don't see us out bidding though.

Why does it seem like everyone is bashing Carmelo Anthony? I don't believe he will sign with the Mavericks this summer. Carmelo is a damn good player, the funny thing is, if the Knicks was at least a 6-7 seed in the East last season, a lot of people would have been calling Carmelo a MVP candidate. The guy is a all around great scorer, he is a good offensive rebounder, his defense is average at best so far in his career, he tries too swat the ball too much, he does not play smart on defense that much, but I believe Carmelo's pros outways his cons by a big margin. People need to cut the guy some slack

60% Bulls (best S5 and EC)
20% Knicks (NY and MONEY)
10% Rockets and Mavs (Rockets better/younger roster on paper, Mavs huge coaching advantage)

I think he will stay in NYC. Most money, great market, and a positive outlook for the franchise now that Jackson is in charge. He isn't the most fit guy either and has had problems with his shoulder so he's probably looking long term in that regard as well - "How much can I lock in long term to protect myself in case of breakdown?" Plus I heard his wifey likes it there?
