Well, he definitely chose the nightlife and the money over winning.
(And no Joe Johnson aint going to make them win.....)

What a bummer. I was really hoping for Deron to come for Dirk's sake alone. Oh well, at least, Dirk won a championship.

very difficult to accept this. it feels like the Mavs wasted a whole year on this and got nothing in return. The decision not to resign Chandler really looks dumb now.

Deron Williams better watch his back the next time he sets foot in Dallas...

Well, hey. Now the Nets are a 35 win team. Congrats!
We will win 50 next year and get bounced in the first round.

I was a little worried about maxing him out anyway. Too much salary going to just two guys. Shrewd moves could still prevail.

I'm not really mad at him. Wrong basketball choice, but whatever. He's got other concerns.

I'm guessing it's in that order but if it were me, I'd move Dragic up to the top spot.

You think they prefer Lin over Dragic? It's not like they'd be able to get Lin for a bargain, since some team will be willing to overpay him.

If I were doing things, I'd prioritize it like this: 1) Dragic, 2) Nash, 3) Lin.
I don't see us getting Nash due to Toronto's offer. Dragic is possible.
And of course, we need to keep in the mix for Dwight.

I hear a lot of police sirens outside right now... Is it the end of the world, are we rioting on the streets?
(too crushed to look out the window right now...)

Indeed. I would love this as a consolation. It would be a joy to watch Steve finish his career in a Mavericks uniform.

When has Cuban ever lured a huge FA? Seems like top talent just don't like coming here.

He's now 0/1, considering this is the first time they've had cap space. Failing to lure LeBron James with zero cap space doesn't exactly count.

I haven't posted in a long time but I have been lurking.
I keep reading posts like this though. I don't understand. The Nets have a better team than the Mavs. They have a solid center (Lopez) and forward (Wallace). They just got a above average guard in Joe Johnson. The mavs on the other hand just have Dirk. We lost JT, the only other scorer we had.
Could you please explain why it is a "wrong basketball" decision? I honestly don't see it.

Mine is 1. Nash 2. Dragic 3. Lin
Really don't want to overpay for Lin.

For those of you dreaming of Dwight... definitely not happening now. I imagine his only interest in the Mavs was very Deron-based.

Well the FO must have known this was a realistic possibility. They have a plan B.
Hopefully it's 1a)Dragic 1b)Nash
And go from there

Well another wasted year upcoming. When financial flexibity doesn't score a ******* single point, grab a single rebound or block a single shot. Whoopee.

Painful to say, but thats right. New Jersey mortgaged its future but put together a decent team. If Dallas can trade away Marion/Haywood and amnesty the other, then we have a ton of flexibility, but very little to sell Deron on us.
We have 2-3 years of Dirk and nothing else. That's not to say that we can't put together something, but we have Dirk and potential. New Jersey has a pretty decent team, as long as they are willing to go over the cap to keep Lopez.

Uh, I don't think that's true at all. There were reports just yesterday that the Mavs were the top of his list when it seemed almost certain that Deron was going to Brooklyn and they wouldn't be able to swing Dwight too.
Anyway, Dwight isn't happening for the time being, but if he makes it to FA, it'll be possible. We'll see.

My disappointment will drop from an 8/10 to about a 3/10 if the Mavs get Dragic at a reasonable price. I won't drop further than 6/10 if they get Nash or Lin (and Lin it wouldn't drop at all if they don't get him for a great deal, which is very unlikely).

An 8? Then may I assume that your disappointment "meter" is based on what seemed likely to happen and not what you wanted to happen?
Because on my sports disappointment meter, this goes to 11.
Honestly, I feel like I just heard the window slam on Dirk. And that makes me terribly sports sad.
