With the Gortat news, who's next for the Mavs? Will they stand pat and go to war with this team? Or do they make bold moves/trades now? Who do you think they would target? Damn. I need some good news soon. I need to forget this whole Gortat fiasco.

Donnie and Carlisle already said that they were not finished after the Marion deal went down.

Yeah, but with the Marion deal went a nice little chunk of bargaining pieces.
Now our biggest chance of getting a quality 5 is Damp. Granted, it could still be done and potentially do some great things considering the fact that we'll have the full MLE to use on someone else, but as it stands right now we're screwed in the paint.
Dallas Mavericks = Glazed doughnut. Again.

let's not overreact just yet. gortat was an unknown for the most part. everyone's acting like we just lost shaq in his prime or something. they'll figure something out.

You'll have to forgive me, I started off as unhappy about picking up Gortat and then jumped on the bandwagon as I read more about him. Now he's stuck with a team that he doesn't want to play for and we're stuck digging for a 5.

I'm a little nervous that Cuban might be in reactionary mode and push to use the Damp chip now...

I think Mavs should try to get Boozer since there doesn't appear to be other quality centers available if we can with the small trade pieces we do have (Jawai/Williams/Humphries/Buckner); we keep Damp, Josh, and Carroll for later trade use. Boozer doesn't have to start or play center full time; we can use Damp, Hollins, and Singleton to man the center position some of the minutes with Boozer.

That's a great idea, trade for Boozer and have him sit on the bench. Then let him walk after this season.
Fantastic.

ESPN Trade Machine also has Jawai/Williams/Humphries/Buckner for Chris Kaman working as well. Also, if we do get Boozer, could we re-sign Boozer and package him with Damp and Josh (if we decide to that is) to get another all-star next offseason?

Nothing wrong with these numbers from a Defense first center.

Seems during last weeks flurry of action that Carlisle said there would be other activity. I'm guessing the timing will be related to the final word on the Gortat thing. We'll see if there is a Plan B to Gortat. Hoping he doesn't just move the Damp chip in reaction to it. Wouldn't mind seeing us sign Hollins and Wilcox to free agent contracts as the backups.

Carlisle was pretty confident that Gortat was a Mav...revealing the sudden nature of Otis Smith's decision.

If we could get Crash and Okafor for Jho/Damp, I would be ecstatic and would say "Gortat who?" Otherwise, I can't see many other things out there that would make me forget about what Otis Smith did to me personally.

I think it comes down to if we're willing to part with Howard now. I'm sure Howard could net us a big, but do we have enough talent to replace Howard? We have Ross and Terry manning the two, we could look at Barnes with the MLE.
Kaman / Damp / Hollins
Dirk / Singleton / Hollins
Marion / Singleton
Barnes / Terry / Ross
Kidd / JJB / Robo
That should hold us over until we can use the DUST chip to land that coveted two guard.

There's no reason to panic and trade Josh for a big unless it's a young, all star level big (which isn't going to happen).
Again, Damp is a 20-25 minute a game center, and I'm convinced Dirk is going to play 10-15 minutes a night at center with Marion beside him.
You obviously need another center, but there's no reason to panic.

I'm not in a state of panic, I'm definitely in a state of dejection about the news from today. I really had high hopes for the future with Gortat.
We clearly need an additional, proven piece at the 5 spot. It seems like most of the options on the market make Damp the starting 5. If you look via trade, then he'll come off the bench.

I'm perfectly fine with signing Hollins as far a the center position goes.
Gortat was a luxury for this season.

I would much rather see Hollins as the #3. I could live with it, but I'm greedy and want a better upgrade. He can definitely turn the corner and take his game up another notch because Damp is going to give him the opportunity to.
I'm definitely going to be interested to see what their Plan B is via trade and what they do now with the MLE.
Same problems as before: more legitimacy from the SG and better defense and athleticism at the 5 spot.
DLord said it best, we thought the summer was just about over...it's only started.
