Honestly, the Mavs don't have the athletes to slow Golden State down. It really does come down just to that.

it was already bad night when Dallas got torched in Toronto, but Houston has to win too.. damnit
This Phoenix Suns v. Utah Jazz game on ESPN has Western Conference Semi-Finals written all over it.

I have never understood why a team that was down five with fifteen seconds left, like the Jazz just were, would try for a two instead of a three. Absolutely no sense of probability.

No idea, and the play ended up in Brewer's hands who shot 2-6 from the line up to that point...

Wow Marion had a hell of a game. I'm glad, since he's on my fantasy team
I can't believe the Jazz just dropped 5 in a row. I would hate to see a Utah forum right now.

You can chalk up another loss for the Spurs tonight. Not only is Duncan questionable but Pop is now talking of sitting Parker for a couple games because of his sprained ankle.
Props to Portland for handling the Warriors last night. Jackson knows how Ginobli feels now.
I thought Utah was going to pull out that win against Phoenix. Thanks for letting me down.

Yeah, I'm marking tonight down as a loss for my Spurs. Against the damn Lakers, too, whom I still detest with every fiber in my being...

Spurs recall Darius Washington from the Torors. Parker will miss the next 2 games from what I understand. Reading spurstalk it looks like Duncan is out too. The Lakers should carve up the Spurs tonight.

Probably not gonna happen thou..Manu goes for 50 and Fin for 30...Kobe Goes for 50 too but takes 40 shots and thus the Lakers lose as the Spurs get another good win

Spurs are playing tough despite the stupid turnovers and bad shooting from Ginobli and Finley.
Not sure they have another run in them after the Lakers have gone up 9 with 5 minutes to go.

I don't really agree with that. I think the Warriors are more athletic, but the Spurs can slow them down and the Spurs are considerably older and less athletic than the Mavs. Granted, the Spurs are better-coached and more fundamentally sound...but they prove that it can be done.

I disagree about the Spurs being less athletic than the Mavs. I guess it matters what your defintion of athletic is but that Spurs team is full of athletes rather they be old or young with the exceptions of Matt Bonner and Tim Duncan.

No Duncan. No Parker. Bad shooting from Ginobli, Finley, and Vaughn. Turnovers (7 from Ginobli alone) and leaving too many guys open on defense and the Spurs still only lose by 5. Bowen played Kobe pretty well as it took him 24 shots to score 30.
The Spurs win against the Mavs and Utah. Have a meltdown against GS and nearly steal one in LA. 2-2 in that stretch is pretty damn scary imo. That's tough competition missing 1 and 2 of your best players.

I'd be satisfied as a Spurs fan but without going to a Spurs message board i'm guessing the fans are on suicide watch? You beat probably two of your biggest threats in the West in Dallas and Utah and you lose to two teams who are potentially playoff contenders. 1-3 could've been a big possibility.

How so? You said the Mavs simply don't have the athletes to slow down the Warriors, correct? If a team with lesser athletes than the Mavs can slow down the Warriors....doesn't that mean implicitly that potentially the Mavs do have the athletes to slow down the Warriors?

You can easily make an argument that the Spurs have better players than the Mavs...but certainly not better athletes. In fact, that's been the primary complaint from Spurs fans in every Spurs loss to the Mavs.

The trouble is with the premise. Who says that the Spurs have lesser athletes than the Mavs have?
In fact, the Mavs may actually be the least athletic team in the league. I think that's a big part of reason for their performance thus far.

Like I said to the other guy, I think you could easily argue that the Spurs have better players. But better athletes? No. Out of the good teams in the league, the Spurs are by far the least athletic.
I'll certainly give you that the Mavs aren't particularly athletic...definitely in the bottom half of the NBA at this point....but the Spurs are even worse off in that area.
Hell, I'd say Howard and Bass by themselves have more athleticism than basically the entire Spurs team. Of course, that doesn't make them better basketball players, but we're only talking about athleticism here, right?

They are athletic at PG and SG and they have the most consistent player in the NBA at C, who are coached by the best coach in the NBA. They will be fine=]
...unfortunately =\

Why would anyone be on Suicide watch? Spurs fans know you don't win titles in December and every fan of every team knows that your team is probably going to struggle when you have to take the court missing two of your three best players.

Well the discussion was never really about whether they'll be fine. Of course they'll be fine. They have possibly the best roster in the NBA and possibly the best coach.
The discussion was revolving only around the athleticism issue.

WOW this Portland/Utah game is good. Roy is incredible.
Portland going for I think 6 in a row and they've missed Aldridge the past few games. They are gonna be scary next year.

Screw Kobe. Davis may well be the most dynamic backcourt player in the game.

I watched. Someone was smiling down on me cause the power went out like 2-3 minutes after the game was over.
I shouldn't be surprised by anything Davis does anymore but I still am when he makes shots like that one last night.
Incredible game. The Warriors really fought back and got the win. MBenga is fitting in nicely. He missed a couple easy ones but he gets them offensive rebounds and blocks/alters shots. He's a nice guy to have out there when Biedrins is on the bench.
Speaking of big men. Is anyone else loving Bynum? He's going to be a monster for years to come.

I would rank Baron up there as one of the more dynamic backcourt players in the NBA. Without question, when healthy, he is up there with Nash as the best PG in the league. However, in last night's game--you could clearly see Kobe's groin bothering him, so we really didn't get to see a Baron/Kobe showdown in the fourth like I had hoped for.
