Man - Texas is on a ROLL!
Let's kill Pittsburgh and Houston in Arlington and end up about 7 games up on LA after this next week.

Significant rumors say that if they've settled in court before the trade deadline, Cliff Lee AND Roy Oswalt could possibly both be Rangers.
If that happened, i'd have to change my pants.

I'd hate to see who they'd have to give up... Lee would be a great #1, Lewis would be a great #2, Oswalt would be a great #3 , Wilson would fit nicely in at #4, then it's a dogfight for the #5 spot.

If there's anything I want to see MORE than a Mavs championship, it's a Rangers one!!!
By the way, I wonder how Hollingers Rankings work with Baseball teams...where would the Rangers be ranked?

Not sure about Hollinger's rankings but the power rankings indicate that the Rangers are the 5th hottest team...the freakin AL East are all hotter

from what i've read (i'll get the link in a while. can't access my email right now), Lee wouldn't take a lot, because Seattle wants to clear his salary more than anything.
Oswalt would probably cost a good deal, but i think i might do it if it didn't include Holland, Smoak, Martin Perez or Feliz.

i think if that ever happened, it'd be: Lee, Oswalt, Lewis, Feldman, Wilson
Holland could work outta the bullpen or back at AAA or something. Same with Hunter. Harden is hopefully gone. Scheppers needs to stay down for the rest of the year, unless we suffer a rash of injuries, imo.

Yes, hypothetically if we get Lee/Oswalt (we won't, but if we did...), the rotation would be Lee/Oswalt/Lewis/Ceej/Feldman. Hunter and Holland would go start in AAA.
The following year, Lee is likely gone and CJ is going to have to be payed to stay around. If Feldman has a solid end to the year, I think you go into 2011 with Oswalt/Lewis/Feldman/Hunter/Holland. That's a solid rotation. Certainly, there are better around the league, but its better than the Feldman/Harden/Lewis/CJ/Harrison rotation we threw out there this year.
In the very worst case scenario (hypothetically assuming we get Lee and Oswalt, which makes it hard to complain), Feldman is terrible and CJ and Lee leave. You're left with Oswalt/Lewis/Hunter/Holland, and for that last spot you have Scheppers down in AAA if you feel he's ready. There's some various scattered parts the organization that could hold the fort down until Scheppers is ready, if he's not. Harrison springs to mind; perhaps Moscoso too.

From what I understand...just kidding, I don't understand anything. I've heard things that I thought were bad signs, and yet everyone was applauding it. Bankruptcy, creditors, bankruptcy court, Rangers "are impaired", and other lingo that just confuses me.
So I really, absolutely, have no clue. Just let me know when they're going to sell the freaking team already. It's time (pun intended).

Rangers are up 13-2 and it's still the 4th inning. This game is two hours long and there's still a lot left.

It's really cool to see the Rangers playing like this, but the starting rotation makes it hard for me to get super optimistic. I would love to see at least one of the trades discussed earlier in this thread go down--it could make the Rangers legit contenders.

Here's the way I see it
The Rangers are out in front, working hard, gasping and sprinting and chugging along
The the Angels are a few yards back, jogging carefree and easy, smiling knowingly and thinking "All day, baby...All day..."
Sooner or later they're going to catch us. The bastards. Why can't they just let us have one lousy division title? Just one?

There's the Flaco we all love.
On another note, I would like to point out that, as of right now, the Rangers have the second-best record in the entire MLB--only one loss behind the Yankees.

Ha - I came on here to post this very fact that I noticed this morning! That is very impressive. I do agree with Flac in a way. It is very disturbing that the team that was 3rd in the division and leaking fluid like crazy is now winning games in a multitude of ways. I don't know if anyone watched highlights from yesterday but the Angels SHOULD HAVE at least had to bat in the bottom of the 9th after a Dodger got a hit that would have absolutely scored a run. The problem? The guy going from 1st to 2nd went too far and got picked off at 2nd just before the run crossed the plate to tie the game. Game over, Angels win. What BS is that. Those ass clown Dodgers, a team with a very respectable record in the NL, has gone 0-4 now against their in-state rivals.
It is also alarming that they are winning against much tougher competition while we do what we should be doing, winning against the worst teams in baseball. I just hope the trend continues against the Yankees, Red Sox, Rays, Twins, White Sox, etc... I do find solace knowing that the Rangers tend to play well against the Angels and as long as we can win/split those series we should be OK. But yeah, our division lead could be something like 7 or 8 if the Angels didn't get hot the exact same time we did (look at Oakland now - who was right on our heels).
Regarding the starting pitching being a worry - why? 3 out of 5 of the starters are pitching very good (Lewis, CJ, and Hunter) and Feldman is getting back into his groove from last year (finally). That really only leaves this one spot that Nippert is pitching in, and Harden/Holland/Scheppers will fill that hole soon enough. Hell, if Harden can start pitching like we all know he can after this nice re-group session we will be looking very good. Now, would I rather add 1 of Lee/Oswalt (or both)? Of course, but given the decision by the judge (that Maury Brown said yesterday wasn't actually all that bad for the Rangers) which will at least delay the sale a little longer, I doubt that happens.
No, I think barring some very quick turnaround by Texas' lawyers to get the judge to put the creditors in a place where they have no options but to proceed, you are looking at the team we are going to try to make the playoffs with. And boys - it is a good team with one of the best bullpens in baseball, good hitting, and some damn improved starting pitching. I think I read this week that our ERA is a full half point better than this time last year. That is a dramatic improvement and certainly one of the reasons we have the 2nd best record in baseball at this point (behind the Yankees, who I knew would pass the Rays eventually).

Don't get me wrong--I think the starting pitching is above average. Good even. But they way the team is playing right now, we have the right to dream big (at least temporarily). ALCS or WS type big. And I'm just not sure I see this rotation going toe to toe with Sabathia-Burnett, etc.

I feel you Dub, but if we get out of the first round of the playoffs, EVERYTHING else is gravy to me. Hell, making the playoffs would be a great accomplishment for a team that hasn't been there many times. When you consider the payroll limitations we have and the youth and unknowns starting the year just making the playoffs should be good for most.
I am hungry too. I want a pennant too. I want a ring too. I just don't think this team is ready for that. If the ownership situation is settled prior to the trade deadline, that is a completely different scenario (or if they can pull off a major trade by giving up more farm talent to get a team to pay all of a player's salary).
We shall see though - here is hoping they continue to win and everything works out.
