Should be fun to see Dirk rubbing elbows with the stars again... And introducing them to his son, Luka!

Would be nice if DSJ made the rising stars team as well, hadn't even thought about that tbh. Luka is 100% making it though

I don’t see why he couldn’t, but I don’t think he would. Let another young guy take the rising star spotlight.

I almost feel like Dirk has to retire after this season with all the love he’s been getting. Plus you factor in the All star weekend invite.

He's said all along that it depends on how he feels and if he's having fun. Certainly looks like he's having fun. He mentioned a few times last night that he's just getting his legs back into shape and again about how he missed training camp. However, that's two off seasons in a row for that.
See some of the movement last night gives me a little confidence that if he can continue to improve the mobility and endurance, there's no doubt he can still average double digit points for the down stretch. He is getting some looks he hasn't seen in ages with some of these kick outs. Now, I take it all with caution due to age and all, but sometimes I have to remind myself he's coming off an ankle surgery that is tough for someone of his size and age to come back quickly from.
I can easily see this being his last dance, and I can easily see him coming back for one more. It all depends on the health at this point since it's obvious he's still loving the game and having fun.

I agree with that, but he’s also said he wants to help the team right the ship and compete for the playoffs. We are in good hands with Luka. While I think the big guy is still having fun I still think he hangs them up after this year. I hope I’m wrong. I’m not ready to let go.

Dirk is 151 points behind Wilt with 33 games to play. He needs to average 4.6 points/game to reach him. Does he make it?

The reality is that the Mavs desperately need a 3 point shooter coming off of the bench. If Dirk can get his legs underneath him, he can be of great value. If he doesn't, I can't imagine Dirk would want to come back for another season when he just couldn't get much done offensively.

5 back-to-backs, so it's more like 28 games left for Dirk -- he'd have to average 5.4 PPG to catch Wilt... Although the last 2 games of the season are B2B, with a home game against Phoenix and an away game against San Antonio. I could actually see him playing both, given the circumstances. He's not gonna miss that last home game, and closing out his career in SA just makes sense, given his history against that franchise (plus it's close enough for fans to make the trek down I-35 to support him).

Hell, I might. Might even be cheaper than his last home game, with tickets upwards of $130 for upper nose bleeds right meow.

Based on that he probably wouldn`t make it (chances are he`ll miss a couple of more games), but if Mavs are out of the playoffs by that time, he`ll probably play a lot of minutes and go for it in the last few games. Nobody would stop him from shooting 30 times and scoring 30 in the last home game. So barring injury or a playoff run, I think he will make it.

Agree... I see him coming back in a player-coach capacity, even. I can't imagine a better mentor for KP than Dirk.

Dirk played with Tim Hardaway in 01-02, he'll play with Tim Hardaway Jr. in 2019.

Dirk to take part in the NBA All-Star game, his 14th, as one of two special roster addition (along with Dwyane Wade) made by commish by Adam Silver. Incredibly fitting.

Kinda funny to think about Kobe's me-first farewell tour and how nobody really gave him the kind of respect that Dirk is getting now... Actions speak louder than hype.

Nothing ground breaking, but an interview with Dirk post trade. It’s mostly an interview about his whole career, but he touches on the Porzingis trade.

One of my fav parts was him realizing how close he is to Wilt. Sounds like he wants to shoot for it (literally). I really want to see Dirk pass him on the scoring list. Sadly, it’s sounding more and more like this will be it for him and that he’s already leaning that way. Hopefully the Unicorn brings the fountain of youth and Dirk sticks around for one last ride.

Well with DAJ gone that could open up more minutes for Dirk if he can handle it. Hell I wouldn't even mind starting him again at this point. Why not? Not like this season matters anymore. Roll with Powell/Dirk/Barnes/THJ/Luka in the starting lineup and allow Dirk to let it fly.

Yeah, with Jordan gone and Porzingis sitting out the rest of the season, there's a good chance Dirk gets enough burn to make it happen this season.

He's not taking a spot from anyone -- they added Dirk and Wade as "ambassadors." It's basically a Lifetime Achievement Award, although it does officially count toward their total All-Star selections... But if there's an injury or somebody gets traded to a different conference, another player will be selected as their replacement.

I read that, and from what I understand they'll still be on the teams and get to play. Therefore, they are taking a spot on the rosters. Wade received a lot of fan votes, much like Doncic. Dirk definitely did not.

They will be taking a 16th spot on the roster that would otherwise not exist if they weren't getting a token recognition... And I doubt Dirk plays much anyway because the coaches/players probably see it the same way as you but still respect the hell out of the guy and want to give him a nod.

16th? I thought it was a 13th. Are you sure? I have to review the All-Star selection if you are in fact right.
