Is he actually going to play his way back into shape or something? Or is he just sitting on the bench in suit while waving his towel?

From what I've read on twitter, he's just going to be in attendance.

Yeah, he's just going to be in attendance tonight...
as for going forward? I'm not too sure, it's always possible (since he's eligible) to have a warm-up gig before the big boy debut.
I would imagine that could be a logistical nightmare though. They'd likely want Roddy to come back in a home game, so that would then have to match with a home game in frisco a day or so before.
As far as I understand, some Maverick players should be in attendance as well in a show of support for the Legends.

yup.. we sure could use his penetration. we are sharing the ball well and have chandler doing low post damage - with roddy slashing we'd finally have the whole package offensively for the first time... well.. ever?

Would be nice if he came back earlier, but rather wait and have him the rest of the way then off and on.

Any news on Roddy's return? We could have really used his athletic scoring punch today.

To bad that two weeks home streak would be nice to ease him back into the game but it comes 1-2 weeks too early

Any idea what he's doing? I know he was cleared for the elliptical a few weeks back but has he progressed since then? Is he shooting jump shots, doing some light jogging or is it still strictly no impact cardio?

The brittle former UCLA great! Haven't heard that name invoked in a while. We can only hope not.

DALLAS -- Roddy Beaubois made his latest routine visit to the doctor on Monday, but little news came of it regarding the guard's timetable to return to the court.
"It's feeling better," Beaubois said. "But, we have to wait longer."
Beaubois said he was not cleared for any new activity beyond elliptical and stationary bike workouts, which he's been doing the last couple of weeks. He joins the team for practices and shootarounds, but he is limited to shooting baskets while standing still. He is not permitted to jump.
The 22-year-old broke a bone in his left foot in early August and underwent surgery days later. After he made a push to get back about six to eight weeks ago, he had a negative reaction and was placed back in a protective boot for several weeks.
He will make his next visit to team physician Dr. T.O. Souryal in just over a week.

After the all-star break, maybe?
At what point do you just shut him down for the season?

He's a pretty damn good set-shot shooter. He was in a fierce 3-ball contest with Stevenson.

I was really hoping Roddy would represent us this season in the Rookie/Sophomore game. It's a shame since we haven't had any young players with Roddy's talent level in quite some time. Well, I just hope he can get fully healthy and help the team soon.

Everyone should always listen to Dr. Dirk...He doesn't sugar coat this stuff. I think he said december, even his pessimism is being tested.

Yeah, he's basically going to need time just to learn the jump shot again, he's shooting set-shots like crazy. He's doing it better than I'll ever shoot a jump shot, but it's something that will need time to adjust to once he's ready.

I've had it for awhile. The lack of updates from the Mavs personnel regarding his progress kind of IMO gave it away that his injury was more serious than they led on.

Fish and Co. reported speculation from a source that the timetable might be in the 3-4 week range back on Nov. 24th. A report two weeks later that he hasn't had a setback but isn't yet cleared for full practice hardly strikes me as an indication that he won't be back this season.

Not dogging GMC but man, look at how reporting is done nowadays. Speculation.. a source (the equipment manager?)... might be... 3-4... we'll need Dirk or Roddy himself to say it's around the corner before I believe it.

I'm less concerned (at the moment) with how reporting is done (I agree it's often sloppy) than with how it's interpreted (in the present case, unnecessarily pessimistically). In much the same way that you (and I) are going to need at least a name for the source before buying into Booby's imminent return to the rotation (if anything I think the best case scenario is that he's a couple weeks away from being cleared to run and jump, which is not the same as being cleared to play in games, but would be a significant positive step regardless), I'm going to need something more than a little bit of contextual non-news one week into December to get me thinking his season was over before it started.

I hear you. I was just reacting to the way news can be reported now more than the news itself. I think vague news tends to bring out the hopes and fears of people as a reaction, as a generalization.
Given Roddy still hasn't been cleared to jump but says it's progressing, if we assume the gap from being to run and jump and game shape is only a couple weeks, it would be a safe bet his debut won't happen this CALENDER year.

xrobx thanks you for a good save.
Or I apologize to xrobx for misunderstanding what he meant by year.

*edit* I suppose robx might have meant "This year" to mean 2010, not this season. In which case, I agree.

that is what i meant, guess i should have been more clear. even when he does come back i'm not sure if he'll shoot as well or be quite as fast as the roddy from last year that we all know and love, which would suck.

I'd be shocked if he came back and was instantly carving up opposing defenses. If he can earn a stable place in the rotation and re-establish a comfort level playing at SG by the time the trade deadline gets here I'll be satisfied.

I still think it's worthwhile to give him at least a game or two in frisco, what's the downside?
