I noticed that too. Talk about BS reporting by someone.

I know he's a agent, but even he has some kind of a reputation to defend. This would be pretty disasterous for him.

Because social media rules the world. They probably didn't like seeing Stephen A Smith talk bad about their baby! Oh no, those Clippers players are being mean! Let's talk Jordy into staying.

I do think that if DJ let's Stephen A Smith and the rest of the media sway his "mistake" then he's more weak than Dwight Howard. There were many in the media that thought D12 was a moron for leaving the Lakers, but he stuck with his decision.

Yea it never even made any sense to just have talks, isn't that what they did all season....., if the moratorium ends July 8, then that's when free agency should start. Silver should get smart and hold a kickoff in the middle of the day, make it an event.

@Chris_Broussard: This is a soap opera. Meeting over, sources say, but LAC stalling, staying with DeAndre because they know Mark Cuban just landed n Houston.

The dude is gone and we're all back to experiencing the free agency blue balls that we're accustomed to in these parts.
There isn't a logical scenario where he agrees to a lengthy, serious conversation with the Clippers' brass that doesn't also involve an intense desire for him to go back to LA.
What could they possibly do to not convince him to come back, now? He's already shown that he is willing to leave, so whatever they weren't willing to concede originally, they will sure as hell be willing to concede now that they are back in front of him.
Honestly, what could he possibly ask them for that they will now say, "nah, we're not going to do that"?
I'd say kiss him goodbye, but I guess he was never here to begin with.

Take the safe way out DJ. Always be a third option and wonder if you ever would have developed into a dwight howard type of center.

If I couldn't meet with him one on one, then I'd turn that jet right back around.
If I was Cuban, I would've moved on the second I knew that meeting was going to take place.

@Chris_Broussard: Clippers stalling, trying to keep DeAndre away from meeting with Cuban
@Jeff_Caplan: Where are the news choppers flying over DeAndre's home? Sounds like it's surrounded by Clippers with chains awaiting showdown with Cuban.
@TravisRW: Mark Cuban is such a badass salesman that literally 5 professional athletes and a billionaire richer than him are scared of him.

Was just thinking this. No one believed in your before, hell a 2nd rounder. Why would people believe in you now?
Ive gotten sick of hearing how he cant survive on his "own" without Chris Paul like he's the only player that's ever lobbed a freaking ball into the air. Its insane. But he is 26.
Hopefully Cuban can reel him in. If this goes through, I think Im done with basketball for awhile.

Ha LAC, typical whiny bitches.
I remember year's ago, it was after the 1998 lockout, the Suns were looking at a lineup of Pippen, McDyess and Kidd.....then McDyess got locked up in the Pepsi Center during an Avalanche game, he called Kidd or Rex Chapman and both flew up to Denver, got to the gates of the Pepsi Center and was not permitted in. McDyess signed with Denver.

My hopeful conspiracy theory is that this has all been an elaborate scheme that Deandre concocted to gain some real closure after the Clippers lazily sent Doc Rivers and Jamie Foxx for their initial presentation, while Chris Paul declined to attend because he had better things to do with his time, like riding phallic shaped boats halfway across the world with his besties Dwayne Wade and Lebron. This would allow DJ to witness a legitimate pitch from the Clippers organization, where he actually gets to hear some grovelling and ego-stroking from the likes of Paul and Ballmer.
After spending an hour or two hearing the Clippers' desperate pleas (in addition to hyperactive and frenetic ramblings by Ballmer), Deandre finally nods his head in acknowledgment of their pitch. To end the meeting, he directs his gaze over to Chris Paul, staring him dead in the eye, and tells him to go $#@% himself in front of the assembled Clippers audience - he's signing the contract with Dallas tomorrow.
A man can dream, at least.

I wonder how many people here who are now rooting for DJ to pick LA were around and following the Mavs closely in the 90s. The NBA is really bad when your team sucks, and most teams in the NBA who get bad, stay bad for a really long time. Successful rebuild-through-the-draft strategies like OKC are very, very, rare. Much more common is the fate of teams like SAC, Utah, Detroit, etc.—great for a really long time, but once it ends, it’s very hard to make it back.
Be careful what you wish for here.

Thank you. We better be collectively praying DJ doesnt singlehandedly send us to the dark ages for a few years.
Dirk retires, Carlisle doesnt renew, Parsons opts out, etc. It could all come down really fast.

Regardless of what happens tonight I'm genuinely upset that the intro for Anderson + Singh and brief intro for Van Exel was completely overshadowed because of this.

I hope Cubes can get through to DJ having him realize the clips are a bunch of hypocrites. Paul never cared about him while vacationing. What a fake ass leader. Not to mention that article of DJ exposing truth how much of a prick he is. Why go back to play with that guy? He's going to go back throwing him under the bus when the clippers lose. Let's hope this whole meeting was a formal goodbye to LA, so he can tell them in person like a mature adult.

But Jordan never announced anything. Not through social media, publicly, anywhere.
Cuban assumed it was done, possibly out of desperation. He doesn't know what it's like to land a big fish.

Cuban got a verbal agreement from Jordan and his agent -- which is the most any team can get until tomorrow, when contracts can be officially signed.
This isn't on Mark Cuban.

You don't need to tank for long, but in order to win the NBA championship, you need to draft that generational talent. Let's go back 20 years and take a look at the champions and see if they had drafted that special talent that allowed them to win the championship.
'95 Rockets, they drafted Olajuwon with a 1st pick. 96'-'98 Bulls, they drafted Jordan third and Pippen high in the lottery if I remember correctly. '99 Spurs, they drafted Robinson and Duncan as well a decade or so later, both were first picks If I'm not mistaken. 2000-2003 Lakers, they drafted Bryant in the lottery. 2004 Pistons, probably the first exception.
2005 Spurs again. 2006 Heat, they drafted Wade high in the lottery. 2007 Spurs again, 2008 Celtics, the second exception, although on a second thought, no they aren't. Remember those trades? They don't have the assets without tanking. 2009-2010 Lakers, 2011 us, we obviously wouldn't have won without Dirk, we drafted him (or traded for him, however you look at it) high in the lottery. 2012-2013 Heat again, with Wade still playing a key role. 2014 Spurs again, 2015 Warriors, drafted Curry high in the lottery.
I'm sure you see my point. The vast majority of NBA champions has become NBA champions (and you could go back to Bird, Magic, etc.) because they drafted a generational talent high in the lottery. How do you get there? By not being particularly good. We got there the same way. I'm sure you wouldn't argue that those teams couldn't have won without their generational talent. Call it whatever you want to call it, if we want to win again, chances are that we'll need a high draft pick, possibly several.

I don't think Mathews is good enough to keep us from sucking and tanking. How many more points is he going to score than Monta did. Sure, a 3 and D guy fits better with the team we hope to have. But if we are starting a 2nd or 3rd string center, Dirk becomes our best rebounder and we are in the tank.
But unlike many of you youngsters, I had season tickets the year we won 14 games. Maybe I'm a masochist, but I'm not giving up. If we had kept Tyson and added Mathews, we were not winning a championship, so we had to roll the dice, and I respect the MBT for trying.

I was here and we ended up with the three J's and I know their stay here wasn't pleasant but if the next three years we end up with the same caliber of talent? I wouldn't complain.

It's baffling how anybody could blame Cuban with a straight face. If the news that broke Friday was false then DJs agent and reps would have immediately let it be known it was false. Knowing that slimeball Ballmer, it wouldn't surprise me if DJs sudden change of heart last weekend had something to do with Ballmer.

The tanking part is easy. There's lots of sucky teams in the NBA (just look at the Eastern Conference). The hard part is drafting that generational talent. The Mavs had to suck for a lot of years before they got Dirk (and who on draft night, besides maybe Donnie, thought he was a generational talent?). Given the long odds, I'll still take DeAndre if he's willing to sign. And, yes, I've been a Day One Mavs Fan, so I know what it's like to root for garbage.
