It's not just the 3-8 seed that are having trouble
It also means a lot more teams have decided to retool and rebuild so there are more teams than ever are holding back. More teams than ever are tanking or shooting for the lottery and the draft just isn't enough to keep the league competitive. This year the talent level of the draft is supposedly good, but still only 5-10 stars in the bunch and 20+ teams needing to improve. Most years you're lucky to get 2-5 stars out of the draft. In a league with 3 winners and 27 losers, that spells doom for overall TV ratings.
Silver has an interesting dilemma now. For fans of the big three, everything is alright, but fans of the other 27 teams aren't happy either and the overall level of competitiveness in the regular season is in jeopardy.

Trust me, we all hate Houston which is exactly why we're giving Westbrook a hard time.

All that matters are ticket sales and ratings. As long as they stay up, then it really doesn't matter about the super teams.
So will they stay strong? I think it takes an economic hit for them to go down. Super teams have been generally good for the league...so far. Casual to lesser fans who don't care which teams win are a faction that I think we're leaving out. They're the ones who will tune in to watch the big boys play.

Yeah, super teams tend to bring in casual sports fans without an allegiance. Kings/Lakers were good for the league. Bulls/Suns was good for the league. Celtics/Lakers was good for the league.
It just really hurts loyal fans of the other 27-28 teams.

Around all star break NBA ratings were down 15% collectively. Mavs ratings were down 50% and Spurs were down 43%. I think overall itll be worse next season league wide. Once public sees Warriors/Cavs in the finals again, people will be even more reluctant to watch regular season. I would think by now, its recovered somewhat..

Anyone remember when OKC was a superteam consisting of Durant/Westbrook/Harden/Ibaka? What a poorly managed shitshow they've become since...

Well you have to wonder if Durant left in part because Westbrook can't control himself as a player. Such out of control basketball might be good enough to get WB back to the finals one day, but if you lose important games because of it...well....

I'm sure that was part of it. I think the other part is just seeing how much fun GS has playing and how well they share the ball. It's the exact opposite in OKC where KD and RW basically took turns playing ISO ball.

There is no changing of Westbrook. He is what he is at this point. Now that Durant is gone, his full fledged ball hogging is on display.
Oladipo is a solid B guy, and Adams I would love to have on my team. Thunder were great through 3 quarters, with multiple guys involved, and then westbrook decided to do it all on his own. The definition of double edged sword because he can do so much for you, and singlehandedly take it all away. 18 shots in the 4th quarter. Went 0-12 at one point during that stretch. 2-11 from 3 overall from a guy who should rarely be shooting threes.
You see exactly what Durant put up with for years (he's still a bitch for going to GS), and I dont blame him for leaving OKC. OKC will never win a championship, unless Lebron himself walks through that door.
BUT HEY TRIPLE DOUBLE with most points! (anddd one of the worst 4th quarters in nba history)

What kills me is that Houston isnt that great on defense. you get guys moving and there will be an open shot or open lane to the rim. But when the whole team knows its Westbrook ball and nobody else, its pretty easy to gameplan

I want a collection of gifs of all the awful offensive possessions. I saw so many possessions where three and sometimes four guys sagged to defend Westbrook and he still didn't pass it at all or make efforts to find guys. Their defense was awful, but Westbrook defended himself by keeping it after he ran into a double or triple

I mean, how do you average a season trip-dub if your teammates can't hit a basket? No reason he shouldn't be looking to drive and kick when that many defenders are sagging back to the basket, especially when his shooting is in a funk... Dude doesn't have the BBIQ to be a true superstar in this league -- playoff wins factor into the equation.

Been saying it for a while now, he will fade quicker than any superstar today. He relies so heavily on his elite athleticism to put him on that level. If he doesn't learn to harness it, to play within himself, and get others involved, OKC will be perennial 1-and-done in the playoffs. That roster and some of the contracts do not help, but what big(ger)-time free agent wants to play with RWB if they seriously consider and watch the way he played this year, and even with Durant.

Cavs came back from a huge deficit. Looking like they're going to be up 3-0. Does Paul George get traded this off season?

They are a year late in firing Casey. I hate to say it. But they are playing old NBA. And the Bucks are a terrible matchup. They need to find their Fizdale. Maybe Stotts and Casey can switch teams?

I only watch the last 6 minutes of the game and saw that Deron Williams was in the whole time. Play-by-play says Kyrie went out at 4:17 left in the third and never played again. Did he get hurt? Him and Love both barely played half a game.

I'd say hot hand, but it was really more of a case of cold hand(s)... Kyrie put the Cavs in a deficit by chucking up garbage all night (4-17), Lue decided to go with a PG who had a little more discipline. Love (4-12) got benched for Frye as well. Cavs won with their 2nd & 3rd best players riding pine. Good job, coach.

In this particular game, they don't win without his decision to bench 2 starters (but we all know that LeBron is superstar/coach/GM). Give Lue his moment.

Hard to say. I've seen some really nice sets out of timeouts and nice in game adjustments. Part of being a good coach is having a good group of assistantsand knowing when to cede to their expertise. And also knowing when to get out of the way

Love and Kylie were both fine as far as I know, but the backups were the ones who got them back in the game so coach left them out there. Looks like it worked.

Giannis may win MVPs. Multiple. He turned 22 a few months ago(!). And is still learning. Wish Donnie had had the cajones to lay them on the table and say to Cuban- "Giannis or I walk". He makes Kawhi- who is also a freak- look positively earthbound. If he develop a shot 3/4 as reliable as Kawhi in the next two years he will dominate for a decade.

LeBron was lights out, unconscious in that 2nd half. Really all game, but Paul George had himself one hell of a first half. I saw a little bit of a difference with LeBron. He still whined a few times but kind of reigned himself in the two times I thought he'd blow up on Thompson or the refs. Kept his cool and won that game. The cup-back slam where Monta fled to the corner was an understated monster jam.
Don't want to forget PG, what a stud.

Monta could have tried to draw a charge, but in all likelihood he knew he was going to get posterized.

Can't say I blame him. Probably feels like getting hit with a Mack truck. Besides it's Lebron, so they probably would have called a blocking foul even if he took it right in the chest.

100% but I was more noting how emphatic LeBron was still able to slam that given the slight movement to the corner. I would bail to the corner 3 ten times out of ten.
