Yeah, nothing that says he can't be here, but a 40-year-old point guard isn't exactly going to lure Dwight Howard to Dallas...
Dwight/Deron in New Jersey > Dwight/Dirk/Kidd in Dallas.

And, yeah, he has beefy stats with bad PG play, but I'm talking about winning rings, not putting up numbers.

Nobodies going to win a ring when your second best players have been rashard lewis, jameer nelson (when he was good), or an older vince carter. Otis has done a terrible job surrounding Dwight with talent.

Make it 20/15/2/2
Dwight has a very underrated running hook shot, which he can make with both hands. His biggest problems are free throws, but you can live with that, still the best 2-way player in the league in my opinion, and would be absolutely devastating next to Dirk.

Yep, unfortunately, and it's really not close. The Nets also will (probably) have a top 5 pick this year, in what looks to be one of the best drafts of all-time. Nets are the favorites to land him, we gotta understand that, and build our expectations from there.

All the more reason to ensure that we have a proper supporting cast to lure Howard in - a 40-year-old Kidd is more of the same for him...

Apparently the Magic are firmly in the race for J.R. Smith. If they get him, could help in ensuring that Dwight remains there through this season.

Maybe, but let's not forget...
NJ is in the eastern conference and Dwight/Deron might not even reach the finals (-together) during their prime if they play for NJ.
IMO the eastern conference will be dominated by the Bulls and MIA in the next 5+yrs and Dwight could become the "odd man out" like Patrick Ewing during the MJ era...
The west on the other hand will be wide open.

True, which does bode well for us, but man, another mediocre upgrade. Another 2 guard when they got JRich, Reddick already in tow and Smith is not an upgrade on either. Anything we can do to convine JR to pick Orlando.

So with Linsanity going nuts in NY, media have questioned Nets players repeatedly about it. Deron Williams asked if they had any question about the Nets......otherwise he's done. Doesn't help the Nets chances of keeping Williams if he has be hounded with Lin questions.....and see first hand how big the Knicks are compared to the Nets.

With 29 days to go, that is not even remotely clear. A lot can change in 3 days, much less a week, much less a month.

Just like how Cuban pushed the button on major free agents changing teams not winning a ship to Lebron....Cuban's got to push this on Howard and Williams as hard as possible. NY belongs to Lin and Melo. Bulls defense and Rose Miami's big 3.....you're Ewing.....Cuban's good at pushing NBA history.

He said no less than a week ago that it's "50-50." I agree that he obviously would like to keep the guy, but it's a bit more complex than what he'd "like" to do. Unless you know him and have some inside info, I'd steer away from saying things are "pretty clear" with this much time left in the game.

Just read that they could offer him around 4.9 mill a lot more than anyone else so maybe they do take that. With Richardson also there maybe they trade Reddick for help at the PG spot.

Knicks closing in on JR Smith:
http://clippers.ocregister.com/2012/...n-with-knicks/
must cut a player, with Lin balling and Shumpert backing up.....looks like Bibby/Baron will get the pink slip, 3rd PG here?

Happy to see the Magic came back from down 8 in the final minutes tonight and ended their game on a 17-0 run for the win. That'll build some goodwill in the locker room and FO.

When something from your team’s PR department ends up on Deadspin, it’s generally not a good thing. This marketing ploy from the New Jersey Nets caught the eye of Deadspin’s Jack Dickey today (emphasis Deadspin’s):
Quote:
On February 22, your NETS will face off against Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic. For this one night only the NETS are discounting tickets in the Loud & Proud section to $12! We need YOU there to rock The Rock and give your NETS a true home court advantage!
How to Purchase Tickets:
Tickets are just $12!
Tickets available ONLY at Prudential Center Box Office beginning at 11AM day of game
12 ticket limit
Fans buying tickets must be wearing NETS apparel to show they are loud and proud!
PLUS, the first 2,500 fans to arrive at Prudential Center will receive a free ticket voucher to a future NETS home game.
|
Not the most subtle move from Prokhorov and Co. Not only are they slashing prices on the night when the one player who could entice Deron Williams to stay and prevent the Nets from going completely to ruins, but by slicing prices to Howard’s jersey number, the team is basically saying “COME AND CHEER FOR DWIGHT HOWARD WE NEED HIM QUITE BADLY.” Well, I guess nothing could be worse than the reversible jersey ploy of 2009, right?

Brook Lopez is returning to action for the Nets today. Hopefully he performs poorly till after the trade deadline.

Another semi-quality road win for the Magic.

Lin's younger. The Mavericks were the team that gave him his shot, so potentially he'd be more inclined to sign here.
However, with that said, Deron is just 27 himself, and is averaging 22 and 8 on a team whose second best player is Kris Humphries. He's a monster and there's virtually no injury or drop-off concerns. I want him here, screw Lin.

For the same money, Deron for sure.
If the money is significantly different, then let's talk. That said, I doubt NYK lets Lin walk although I don't know their cap situation or their rights with Lin.
Besides, Lin doesn't have D in his name.

Deron for sure. D.Will is a proven player. Lin is riding the hype. Watch him slow down before this season ends.
(For the record D. Will just schooled him today)

Yeah, I think Lin is legit, but I know Deron's legit. And honestly, how much higher is Lin's ceiling when compared to DWill?

I follow Bill Simmons on facebook and this guy has been putting together possible trades that involve D12 the last few days. None of them involve the Mavs. Most of them are pretty legit trades where all teams involved get decent players. I hate seeing them. But I still believe wherever D12 lands this year, he is going to test free agency regardless. Maybe landing with D Will would change things.

Please, somebody clear this up for me, i read on some place that we need to dump every guaranteed contract (minus Dirk's, obviously) until the march trade deadline, and amnesty Haywood, in order to even have a chance at Dwight and Deron in the summer? That's not true, is it? I mean, they can do all that in the summer, after the season, right?

Yes, and in fact, I don't think they can amnesty anyone until after the season.

Thanks. I still think it would be easy to trade Marion, and everybody else is either on a cheap contract, or an expiring/unguaranteed. Man, if only Dirk could reconstruct his contract. We would probably be the heavy favorite to land those guys, i honestly think Dirk would be all right to get MLE type of money for the rest of his career, in order to get those 2. It's so stupid btw, if a player think he wants to help his team this way, why can't he do that?
