Children of Men.

Great movie. I mean, that was the most impressive of movies i've seen in a while.

it is so much stronger than most 1hr dramas of today...of course the special fx are sorry...but the stories are strong and the characters of Mulder and Scully are two of the better ones ever...

28 Days Later- Solid movie. I had to explain to one of my friends that it wasn't a zombie movie, it was a movie about people running from zombies.

28 Weeks Later- Awful. I mean, bad. The whole movie felt like it was telling the first movie in a different way.

Vacancy- Not the greatest thriller ever but certainly better than these PG-13, Wolf Creek, Turista-type movies that's been the theme for the past 3 or 4 years.

Jurassic Park 1,2,3- I read they're in talks of coming out with a 4th one, so that made me want to see the first one, but at my local Best Buy, you can't buy just one, you have to buy all 3. First one was a good movie. I still don't think there's been that much hype around a movie except maybe those Star Wars movies and of course Titanic.

As far as The Lost World, the story was one of the weaker stories i've ever seen in a sequel. I mean, they went to a breeding ground that wasn't mentioned in the first one, then are dumb enough to transport a T-Rex to the U.S.

Jurassic Park 3- I don't think this one was all that bad. The only thing i didn't like was the fact that a little boy can survive 8 weeks, on his own, on a remote island with hundreds of deadly animals 100 times bigger and faster than he is. The action scenes were good.

the queen. It may very well be a great film but i was hanging out with friends i hadnt seen in a while and about 35 minutes into it we just completely ignored the rest of the movie because literally nothing happens the entire time.

recently watched......

Lost Season 1 - episodes 1-4. Interesting looking show, hope it doesn't fizzle as it progresses;

Deja Vu - Nothing special at all. I had an odd sensation that I had watched this movie before;

Running w/ Scissors - story about a young queer kid who gets shipped off to live with an amoral psychiatrist and a group of nut jobs by his self-obsessed feminazi mother. All things considered I'd rather watch a good Dallas Desperados game.

Pan's Labyrinth. Well made movie. The only problem i had was they could've gone without the graphic violence and made it a pg-13.

I understand, i don't really fault them for making it R, but now that i think about it, that movie would've went way over a lot of teenager/children's heads.

Think about the first one.

It started with a group of people running from zombies, then a few chase scenes, then they ally with another party that ends up dying, then they have to not only fight off zombies, but another outside party, then they escape. That is the outline for the 1st and 2nd movie.

I thought 24 Season 3 was pretty decent. The show gets a bit campy from time to time, and I really didn't need the moral dilemma of whether to negotiate with terrorists spelled out for me 6 times per episode, but it was a reasonably compelling plot with some really tense moments.

I'd like to go on record saying that seasons 2,3,4 and 5 of 24 are at least in my opinion, equally awesome.

in re Lost, Season 1 episodes 1-16....

I know there's a bunch of Lost threads, but I'm so hopelessly far behind that I don't want to wander into a bunch of spoilers.

....two things stand out:

1. This looks like an inadvertant commentary on man's fallen nature. Island paradise, lot's of hot women, plenty of food, golf course, no taxes....aside from the trauma of plane crash, the loss of loved ones and the mysterious and sinister forces it should be a helluva good time. Instead, they're fighting and lying and plotting and breaking up into cliques. Why can't we all just get along?

2. Alot of folks may be much better off because of the circumstances --

Kate -- no prison;
Locke -- legs;
Claire -- gets to be mommy;
Sun and Korean Husband -- probably saving their marriage;
Michael and Walt -- great father-son bonding adventure;
Sawyer -- from low-life grifter to not quite so low-life grifter;
Charlie -- no longer on the junk;
Hurley -- great fat camp, it'll probably add 15 years to his life if he doesn't get eaten by the monster;
Boone -- gettin' past the sick thoughts about doin' his sister;
Shannon -- grow up and quit being a diva ya little ho;
Sayeed -- isnt' in Iraq;
Jack -- the jury is still out, but he gets to be the hero and that's his gig anyway....

granted they're stranded on an island and people are getting killed and there's monsters and stuff, but life can be a real bitch regardless of where you are....people should look on the bright side more.

Alex ever the optimist.

I highly recommend going back and rereading the Lost threads as you finish each season. There's one for each season in the lounge.

Reading alex's post after where we are today with this show is quite telling isn't it? What I wouldn't give to rediscover Season 1.... that was fun.

Yeah, I had to keep myself from striking up a conversation on his obervations that I didn't agree with. Took me a minute to remember how early in the character development he is.
