We've gotta switch. It seems we don't have a single player on this roster who is capable of moving over/under a screen effectively enough to stay in front of his man.

go under the screen and make Rajon "I can't shoot consistently" Rondo make a few jumpshots in a row. Making one does that mean he can shoot.

I didn't really have a problem with the switching at the end. I had more trust in Kidd's defensive abilities on Pierce opposed to Josh. Pierce hit some good shots at the end.
I do agree though that our defense on screens is blah.

What about JJ "I can't guard for the life of me" Barea being isolated against Pierce on 6 different occasions?

That's obviously the right thing to do against him. I was really speaking more generally. We've got an immense deficiency in that area.

IMO, Rondo didn't even consider it (shooting). It seemed like he had a good step or so to get in the lane and make a floater or take the shot. They just ran that play to death and Rondo waited to get the pass to Pierce.

I hate to say it, but a lot of is due to Dirk not sliding over because of his lateral movement deficiencies, but that is for another day. As far as tonight's game is concerned, we should have went under every single pick for Rondo and make him beat us, instead of taking our chances against the NBA Finals MVP.

Mavs played well. Boston played better. Refs suck as always. Dirk is, and will always be, the Uber Man.

If by always, you mean 4-5 more years then you are absolutely correct.

btw trading howard for a 2 guard seems to be a popular idea. This is basically just piggy backing kgs you need x number of players idea but is having no sf really better than having no sg??? I understand the hatred of howard that many here have but i think we forget what hes capable of when things go right.

I would rather take bdiddy/kaman for jkiddo. I think that solves the inside post man as well as gives us someone who can do what pierce did last night. Be a scorer with the ball in hand..

i completely agree with this, i honestly think he intentionally picked up his 5th foul to get out of the game. He was getting torched and he wanted no part of it. Hes always been a punk and hes actually not that great of a player anymore.

I don't think you are getting the point I'm trying to make =]
But yes, Dirk's "inabilities" on the defensive end that writers around the nation refer to really do not exist anymore. He has improved his defense by leaps and bounds in recent years.
However, when you are talking about pick and roll defense, Dirk is usually the guy on the weakside that needs to be more stronger in his movements when he is trying to cut off the point guard. I am not sure if you can account that to his lack of lateral quickness or if he is trying to save himself for the offensive end. For example, if Kidd is guarding Deron Williams and Brandon Bass is guarding Paul Millsap, Dirk as the third guy needs to be ready to help out when Kidd gets screened because he's going to go over the pick since Deron is such a great shooter leaving Deron's drive open. Great defenses are the ones where all five guys are on a string. I guess what I'm trying to say is that our pick and roll defense isn't bad strictly because of the two guys that are being worked on, it's the entire team's fault... and a lot of that is shouldered by the third guy in the equation, which is more often than not, Dirk.
