I can't believe anyone actually listens to that crap. Correct me if I'm wrong, but did she write any of the songs on that album? Aren't they all covers? Isn't it common practice for an artist to atleast come out with a few solo albums before they try a cover album.
|
I sampled a few of her tunes with OP's glowing recommendation in mind, and to be frank was kinda disappointed. Clearly 300-lb. Arethae don't come along every day. (Helen Terry, otoh--now THERE was a bona fide soul sistuh.)
Maybe it was just the songs I sampled, but she sounded a little thin, and stayed in a fairly narrow range, with some pretty pedestrian material.
Then again, she's only what....16? She has plenty of room to grow.

Nash, I just picked up that Kanye album, it's hot. I love Never Let You Down.
|
One of the best albums of the year IMO. I haven't bought an album in awhile and this isthefirst one I can listen to every track withoutskipping a track.
|
Can anybody that has this CD know why the track School Spirit is edited?
Anyway, that album is the best I've purchased in a while.
Favorite track - Get Em High with Talib Kweli and Common.

RE: What is spinning in your CD player right now?
I'm up entirely too early in the morning, and I'm still listening to Floggin Molly while playing with picturemaker 7... This is great music that makes me want to pick up my pike and fen dirk to oppose the land-coveting the English scum who finally brought the old Gaelic, tribal Ireland down to it's knee's in the 17th and 18th centuries...
Long live the poets, thieves, and warriors that the Irish race has produced in profusion for the last recorded dozen centuries or so! And damned the poxed English landgrubbers! (Sometimes listening to FM makes me think this way- especially when I haven't had quite enough sleep)

RE: What is spinning in your CD player right now?
"Can't Wait Until Tonight"
don't wanna talk about the way I am
I only try to make you understand
that my affection is so really true
and my heart has started thumpin' since I met you
I just can't wait until tonight baby
'til I have you by my side baby
I just can´t wait until tonight baby
for being with you
do do do do do
first time I saw you it just knocked me down
the way you smiled has turned my life around
I never thought that it would catch me so
I'll get my head together cause I want you to know
I just can´t wait until tonight baby
'til I have you by my side baby
I just can't wait until tonight baby
for being with you
do do do do do
true love won't be afraid of no one
true love will lead us through the day
I'll get my head together
and I want you to say
I just can´t wait until tonight baby
'til I have you by my side baby
I just can't wait until tonight baby
for being with you
do do do do do

For when you feel aggressive or naughty:
"Figured You Out
I like your pants around your feet
And I like the dirt that's on your knees
And I like the way you say please
While you're looking up at me
You're like my favorite damn disease
And I love the places that we go
And I love the people that you know
And I love the way you can't say "No"
Too many long lines in a row
I love the powder on your nose
And now I know who you are
It wasn't that hard
Just to figure you out
Now I did, you wonder why
I like the freckles on your chest
And I like the way you like me best
And I like the way you're not impressed
While you put me to the test
I like the white stains on your dress
I love the way you pass the check
And I love the good times that you wreck
And I love your lack of self respect
While you're passed out on the deck
I love my hands around your neck
And I know who you are
It wasn't that hard
Just to figure you out
Now I did, you wonder why
Why not before, you never tried
Gone for good, and this is it
I like your pants around your feet
And I like the dirt that's on your knees
And I like the way you still say please
While you're looking up at me
You're like my favorite damn disease
And I hate the places that we go
And I hate the people that you know
And I hate the way you can't say "No"
Too many long lines in a row
I hate the powder on your nose
And now I know who you are
It wasn't that hard
Just to figure you out
Now I did, you wonder why
Why not before, you never tried
Gone for good, and this is it "
[img]i/expressions/heart.gif[/img]
there's just something so satisfying about that song.

Prince - Musicology... not classic level Prince, but his best since 1996 (not that that was a tough mountain to climb). Still better than anything on the radio
Unfortunately I'm not headed to the AAC for his concert tonight, I'm going to see Jerry Seinfeld instead.

RE:What is spinning in your CD player right now?
Lenny Kravitz's greatest hits
Fly Away
I wish that I could fly
Into the sky
So very high
Just like a dragonfly
I'd fly above the trees
Over the seas in all degrees
To anywhere I please
Oh I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah yeah yeah
Oh I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah yeah yeah
Let's go and see the stars
The milky way or even Mars
Where it could just be ours
Let's fade into the sun
Let your spirit fly
Where we are one
Just for a little fun
Oh oh oh yeah !
I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah yeah yeah
I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah yeah yeah
I got to get away
Feel I got to get away
Oh oh oh yeah
I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah with you yeah yeah
Oh Yeah !
I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah with you yeah yeah
I got to get away
I want to get away X4
Yeah
I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah with you yeah yeah
I got to get away
I want to get away X4
Yeah
I want to get away
I want to fly away
Yeah with you
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

I'm listening to "Mutations" by Beck a hell of a lot lately. I hope someone backs me up on the fact that this guy is an amazing musician. He's a modern day Dylan in my opinion, especially on this album. Just amazing....

Ahhhhhh Prince. He was greatness. I would still like to see him live.
I am right now listening to De Stijl (White Stripes), and more specifically I am finding out that indeed truth is silent.

Are we talking White Stripes with this statement? Because I would have to disagree. I love all four of their albums, but I will admit that De Stijl is the best.

RE:What is spinning in your CD player right now?
I was being a bit harsh maybe.
But De Stijl is their best work, and it hardly ever gets recognised.
It craps all over White Blood Cells & Elephant.
Self titled does have Jimmy The Exploder & The Big Three Killed My Baby, which certainly gives it some serious points.
Ahh stuff it, they're all crap compared to the Stone Roses, hey U2?

I can't stop playing the latest 'Fountains of Wayne' CD. (Almost) every track is solid - a rare commodity on a CD nowadays.
