I don't hate the move. KP and Luka can't play together and KP has been absolutely the most inefficient player for us. KP also can't stay healthy and more than that, his max salary means we are over the cap with DFS and Brunson wanting paychecks that will put us WAY over the tax.

Make sense of this? KP is never healthy. Bertrans has one skill but he does it well and with Luka can be dangerous. Dinwiddie idk. We turn one albatross contract into two meh contracts.

Bertans is shooting like 32% from 3 I think. He’s been terrible from 2 too. Can’t defend a chair. Nor can Dinwiddie. So much for our defensive identity. No rim protection.

Fun fact, Dinwiddie and Bertans are also hurt a lot.

So the only argument I hear of "good" is that you can trade those two separately easier than you can trade KP's big contract.

Mavs spend more money in the short term (33.1mill vs. 31.6)

Mavs save money in the long term

Mavs probably betting Dinwiddie will eventually round back into old form. ACL usually takes 1-1.5 seasons to return to 100% like Powell did.

If not, Mavs probably think that they can dump two medium (17/16) contracts easier than one whopper (31.6mill)
