Methinks someone f'd up. Not a huge deal but I wish they got a practice in. Caron is sounding good in the presser.

Pretty generic. The new guys didnt practice because the paperworks not done but it will be tommorow morning. The new guys think they can bring toughness and athletecism to the team. Butler understands the nba is a business and hes been traded before so its not new though this is the first time in season. Butler and stevenson both expect to really defend alot here. Carlisle thinks that the mavs high level of experience(dirk, kidd, jet) will help them integrate these guys on the fly and donnie thinks that this move helps the team in the future, not just this year.

does anyone know where there is a link to the press conference?
Donnie says the Mavs are interested in bringing Gooden back...I love listening to Donnie do interviews. Just seems like a frank and nice guy.

I'm assuming he's talking about this season, right? If we're pushing to get Caron minutes at the 3 and Damp gets healthy enough that him and Haywood are taking up all the minutes at center, is there room for Gooden as anything but a situational/end of the bench guy? Would Gooden go for that, even if it's only for a month or so?
Isn't the rule that if Gooden gets waived or whatever, that we have to wait 30 days to sign him. Now I guess we could find in those 30 days that Damp's knee is in a bad situation. Hopefully that won't be the case.

That pretty much agrees with what I'd been expecting, and suggests that JET will continue to get the majority of the available minutes at SG.
That just got me thinking about the effect that this trade figures to have on ball movement. When Dallas rolls out the trio of Kidd/JET/Caron they're going to have three good-to-great passers on the floor (considered relative to the standards of the position they play and conditional upon Caron rediscovering his form of previous seasons). That should be refreshing to watch.

*If* Drew gets waived, and *if* he's willing to come back knowing that minutes will be a little harder to come by, it goes without saying that Dallas offers him a contract for the rest of the season. I think they've had a good experience having him on the team even if he wasn't able to give them what they need playing 6th-man/starter minutes at C, he knows the system and the players, and Dallas can definitely use the frontcourt depth.

That's my question though. Does Drew Gooden go for the idea of only being a situational player/depth? Obviously this all hinges on the Damps knee, but isn't the goal here to give Damp and Haywood all the minutes at center as well as giving Dirk and Marion all the minutes at power forward so that there are plenty of minutes for Caron at small forward? Doesn't that kind of make Drew Gooden a player that's only there for situational matchups and perhaps depth in case we suffered some sort of injury or Damp never really gets healthy?
I'm just wondering if Gooden would be down with that. The fact that the season is short and Gooden already knows the Mavs' system might make him for likely to go for this.

I expect it depends a bit on what the market is for him. Are there any teams out there that are going to offer him significantly more money? I doubt it. Are there any teams that have a realistic shot at a deep playoff run that can offer him anything more than situational minutes? I guess maybe Portland and Phoenix could offer him a bigger role, but off the top of my head I can't think of any others, and neither of those two teams seems poised for much postseason success without a trade (which of course may very well happen in the Suns' case).

Says Butler, “I’m looking forward to coming in and bringing that edge and nastiness to Dallas.’’
