You finally won't have to answer "Is KP playing tonight?"
Mavs have been asking that question a lot. At least we don't have to keep asking

Sucks they didn’t use it, but I imagine they made calls to try and use it. Seems like the Kings are going all in trying to make the playoffs, and trading Holmes for air doesn’t help that goal.

Who we cutting?
We traded 1-for-2 when we had a full roster so we gotta cut one
If we want to pick up Dragic, we will need to cut two players.

Well they recalled Moses earlier today, so I’d imagine he’s one of them.

The list of cuttable players isn’t that short.

Everyone screamed and cried over the Seth Curry trade for years. Love to see this one play out...

Sad sad trade. Bertans and Dinwiddie are garbage adjacent. At least KP is a rim protector.

Mavs record since 2019-20, including playoffs:
.592 with Luka and Porzingis
.600 with just Luka

I am guessing the Mavs felt the need to move KP if at all possible given his health concerns. A $30M+/yr player who doesn't play much is untenable if you are trying to make a playoff run. Bertrans and Dinwiddie are smaller contracts that might be easier to move later on. I'm not a fan of either player but the opportunity presented itself and I think you have to go for it. But it is unfortunate that KP's value was so low.
Theoretically, the Mavs have added a stretch 4 and another ball handler. Theoretically..........

I think the real story goes like this. KP wanted out of Dallas since second half of the season. Obviously Dallas would get 2 hot dogs with mustard for him last off season. That's why they probably made a deal with him to trade him in the winter deadline. This makes sense for Porzingis missing like 3 weeks just for back or knee soreness. I think they wanted to trade KP all along. And KP wished the same.
I like this trade. Why? For what they Mavs got? No! Because they got rid of Porzingis and his contract. It's much easier to trade 2 15 mill contracts in the summer than one 35 mill one that is very liable.
And let's be honest! What would a success for Dallas be in this years PO? At least 2 PO series. And how can Dallas pull that off? They are good enough to do it only if they play really, really hard? And with KP you can't even expect him to play 1 PO series with 7 games on full throttle, let alone 2 PO series. And if he gets injured again it's again half a year gone.
So all and all I think Dallas made a good move. Definitely not a great one, but a good one non the less.

All and all if Dallas keeps Brunson in the summer that's a win. Much better of with Brunson than Porzingis. Believe you me.

I'm gonna wait before I get on board with complaining about this one. Subject to change if we start sucking. KP has done fvck all when it matters most and if by some miracle hes actually available he's not near living up to his contract.
We have been winning without him so let's see what hapns

This is the only positive thing I see from the deal. Sucks that KP’s value was so low, but having 2 mid contracts will be easier to move than 1 monster contract. Too bad they couldn’t get rid of THJ.

Tim Cato: cuban’s been interested in bringing dinwiddie to the mavericks since last summer. that said, it was only very recently i got a sense kristaps might actually be available. this sure as hell is a significant shakeup to the team’s roster. – via Twitter tim_cato

But that's sort of the crux. Now we have three bad contracts to move. Spencer, Bertans, THJ. Yuck.
At least the Mavs are admitting they aren't contenders. Finally coming to grips with that.

How could the Mavs not get one of Harrell, Bryant or Gafford out of this? Still just dumbfounded .

Dinwiddie contract is bad?
Per @spotrac Dinwiddie is guaranteed 10M of his 18M+ in 24. So right now his deal is 2/28

Well Cuban gets his crypto buddy in Dinwiddie. They can swap NFT stories or whatever the fuck. Yay.

Looks like Celts send Enes Freedom and Schroeder to Rockets for Theis. Rockets plan to waive Freedom....sounds like a zen moment.

I think they could have gotten Harrell by including someone like Sterling Brown and KP. The Harrell trade was announced before the KP deal though.

This is one of my critiques of this trade. Surely you could have gotten Gafford who is a younger, better Powell if given the same minutes, etc. especially given that we gave up the only pick in the deal.

Mavs need to clear a couple of roster spots if they plan to go after Dragic. Or does Dinwiddie make Dragic a nonissue?

Lol
So they are just 1 game better with just Luka
Not too much of a difference imo
I'm cool with Dinwiddie felt like they should have went after him doing FA last year.
But the head scratcher is Bertans. That has the makings of being another move similar to Melli from last year.
I would have preferred one of those centers on Washington roster coming back with Dinwiddie as opposed to Bertans.

We are fans of such a poorly run organization. Seriously, it's just awful really, from treatment of others to leadership to free agency to trades to everything in between.
Outside of drafting a couple of amazing European beasts over 2 decades, I just don't know how anyone could ever have confidence in this dumpster fire of a front office.
Thank the Lord for Dirk is all I'll say. Maybe Luka proves to be as patient, but sheesh, I have no idea why.

105.3 saying they spoke with someone with the Wiz. Apparently Dinwiddie hasn’t been moving well lately, and looks like he’s shooting off 1 leg. Trade one injured guy for another?

This is my concern. If this sends JB back to the bench, increases chances he is gone. So, hopefully starting lineups remains the same (as the past few games) and SD becomes our 6th man leading the bench.
