As stated, $25mm is fine and should be the walk away number. If he wants to limit it to 4 years and be able to hit the market after, fine too. But the more you add to that, the less intriguing it gets, especially when we already have the 4th highest cap hit for the position locked up (likely 3rd after next year when Russ falls off).

For those that keep saying "why not just pay the extra 5 million" as explained before, it's not just 5 million. This is why. If you want to say "Cuban is a billionaire he should pay it" so be it, but no MLE.
Re-signing Brunson at a deal that pays him $30 million annually, per Bobby Mark?s calculations, could cost the team $130 million in salary and subsequent taxes next season. That?s without the team using its taxpayer?s mid-level exception, a $6.4-million carveout that the team might need to sign another wing or split among several players asking more than the veteran?s minimum. It?s another calculation the team must make, a financial one dependent on how much Cuban is truly willing to spend. Dallas can?t be blamed for its valuation of Brunson being lower than New York?s. Team sources have certainly expressed surprise and dismay at just how much the Knicks are prepared to offer him. But sometimes, that?s the cost of free agency. ? via Tim Cato @ The Athletic

I wish just once these owners would tell these players tough shit. We don?t care that you want to be traded. If they do decide to trade them IDGAF where you want to go. We are shipping your ass to the highest bidder. You want to choose where you play every season? Sign 1 year deals and not 4 year max contracts.

I?d think Miami can put together a better package for KD than PHX? I don?t know what either teams draft pick situation looks like, but I think Herro is a better player than anyone PHX can offer up unless Ayton can do some kind of SnT.
As much as I hate Miami I?d much rather KD go there because fuck CP3 and Booker.

Maybe the NBA should go to a new format where each team picks a captain. Each captain gets to pick the best remaining player to join his team. Sort of like the new All-Star game process. The order of picking your teammates is determined by the draft order. First round picks get $40M, second round $35M, and so on. Captains can barter with other team captains and generally have fun with the process while the rest of us wait to see who is on "our team". Owners, coaches, and fans are stuck with whatever the players come up with. Rinse and repeat every year. Sound like fun?
The NBA is getting ridiculous.

Nope, none of those features work for me anymore. And the ? mark replaces ' and " from copy pasta for me. I'm on computer when I post so I don't know about from the phone.

Nobody wants him. I doubt you need to give up much. If they want THJ and Dwight Powell, fine, but NO WAY to Dinwiddie. No sir. No.

Rumored that FA will be on hold until the Durant deal goes through. That actually helps the Mavs since they have their Brunson meeting first.

Pure fantasy, but one can dream right?
The idea of teaming up with Luka Doncic in Dallas has to be appealing for Durant. The Mavericks can easily find the matching salaries with a combination of guys such as Spencer Dinwiddie, Tim Hardaway Jr., Davis Bertans, Dwight Powell, and even Jalen Brunson through a sign-and-trade. They can also include three first-round picks in 2025 (first available draft), 2027, and 2029.

Nash going to stick around and coach a rebuilding Brooklyn? Nets have to get some assets back just to make salaries match, but the talent level has to be a huge drop with KD and likely Irving gone.

*throws hands up*
Welp, I give up trying to follow the offseason anymore.
*For a week, we hear repeatedly how happy Brunson is and how is definitely re-signing.
*Kyrie asks for a trade. Threatens to opt out for leverage.
*Mavs say they have no interest.
*Kyrie opts in.
*Brunson is almost definitely signing with NY.
*Miami is also meeting with Brunson.
*Oh wait, nm, Miami is not meeting with Brunson.
*KD requests trade.
*Mavs are aggressively pursuing trade for Kyrie.
Whatever. NBA twitter is bullshit. JFC, no thank you on Kyrie. Do everything you can to keep Brunson, I don't care what it costs. If he walks anyway, then at least you tried. If he walks, then go after Schroder.

Can we give Brunson a part of the franchise while we're at it? I have a piece of the championship floor he can have. ANYTHING not to get Kyrie.
*two months from now*
Man, we're gonna be so great with Kyrie next to Luka. AMIRITE??!!!!

ESPN added this little nugget to the front page article.
Nets general manager Sean Marks is working with Durant and Kleiman on finding a trade, Kleiman told ESPN. The Nets, however, are not buoyed to honoring any of Durant's preferred destinations and plan to make a deal that allows them the greatest return of assets, sources told ESPN.

The NBA has just become a musical chairs of nonsense. Stars for picks then picks back for stars. Need a new CBA badly. This is becoming too commonplace and is very unstable.

All kidding aside, AT LEAST Kyrie only has one year left on his deal. If the Mavs actually want to clear salary, this would be good way to do it without having to give up anything of real value probably.
But dear god, the chaos and dysfunction in the meantime.

....and we drink it up like kool aid....every bit of it.
These agents find a loophole in everything. You'd think they'd found something with a salary cap, than a hard cap, luxury taxes, taxpayer exceptions....it goes on and on.

Brian Windhorst, on ESPN, says Durant is ?focused? on landing in Phoenix, and that one reason KD requested the trade today (before start of FA) was so that DeAndre Ayton could be included in a potential trade package. Windy notes KD?s relationship with CP3 and and Devin Booker.

Absolutely.
I'd be fine with SD/Dragic/Frankie sharing back up PG mins.

We are all waiting with bated breath to hear what LeBron and KD have decided for the next NBA season. The anticipation is overwhelming.

Lebron can't be the first one that started this back in 2010....there's got to be others prior....Shaq in 96, was that as big?

If it's already a done deal that Brunson is going to NY, then fine. No sense in going through a dog and pony show. If however, the Mavs just gave up because Cuban is being petulant, then that is not fine.
Either way, I'm honestly glad I at least don't have to worry about it anymore. Get Schroder and be done with it.
