The good thing is that Bynum's out again and it immediately impacts Gasol and Odom in the minutes department. Both played 49 and 47 minutes tonight. The Lakers have zero depth in that area since Ratliff's out as well and neither Walton nor Caracter seem to be able to give them anything.

If Bynum were to miss more games throughout the season, it would inevitably increase Odom and Gasol's minutes and could affect them negatively come playoff time (hopefully).

Not only that, with Barnes hurt and Steve Blake really underachieving the only guy that consistently plays well on there bench is Brown

Nah, LMA hasn't gone down let. That'd be the universe. This is just our galaxy, and perhaps a couple other ones nearby, hating Portland.

I think we will pass the Lakers regardless. I'd rather inch closer to the Spurs.

LBJ is such a stat padding whore. Cheapest 50 ever. His selfish attempt to demand the inbounds pass when Wade was wide open nearly cost them the game.

i don't think it's possible to catch the spurs at this point, so i'm pulling for the spurs over the lakers.

Go earthquake!

(but seriously, the Spurs are still within reach and we don't need their help to overtake the Lakers...)

You're criticizing him for making himself available for an inbounds pass? That's a new one.

I'm guessing you didn't watch the game.

He WASN'T available. That's why the ball went off his knee for a near game losing turnover! JRich was draped all over him, Wade was WIDE OPEN and LBJ shook him off to the inbounder (I think James Jones).

Epic fail. That's not a new one.

While watching tonights games I wonder why NBA referees tend to make the most out of their calls. One example is an offensive foul call by the referee standing at the baseline who typically storms two or three steps onto the court before announcing the foul. Never saw such profiling on other american sports.

Occasionally reminds me of how it would look on a soccer field:

I watched some of the game but I was puzzled by your post so i rewatched the play. Lebron jogged towards Miller with is hands in the catch position. That's it, he didn't call for the ball and he didn't wave anyone off. He was actually open for a second but Richardson closed pretty quickly. That's on the passer.

Feel free to not like Lebron, I don't care for him much myself. Just saying, that was a bizarre criticism.

That and Artest elbowed Manu in the face with about 2 minutes left and no call by the refs; the NBA might need to review that and give Ron a suspension.

calling that a lay up is a big stretch.

Spurs aren't playing great right now, and neither are the lakers.

we are now percentage points ahead of LA for the second spot

Yea and wasn't that a 3 pointer? And they didn't even review a potential Spurs possession either. The refs tried all they could to give it to the Lakeshow and still couldn't do it.

Yeah, I think that was off McDyess anyway, but the refs clearly didn't have a clue and should have reviewed it. Instead, they gave L.A. the benefit of the doubt. Surprise, surprise.

That running floater for Parker is a layup. He makes that more times than not. Even that time it went right in and came out. I'd consider that luck. And I agree. But then again I don't think any team right now is playing that well. Its the beginning of February. Teams usually don't start making that run until after the all star break. Right now the Lakers and Spurs are just in cruise control.

Either way that 4th quarter felt like a playoff game. Exciting finish.

I agree that playing great isn't that important right now, but I find it awkward that the top of the west is playing this way right now (save the Mavs I guess), hopefully the Spurs peaked too early this year

Am I the only one who thinks that it might be just as likely for the Lakers to finish 4th instead of 1st? They are 7.5 points behind the Spurs, just like we are, and I fully expect the Spurs to maintain the lead until the end of the season with only a little more than 30 games left to play.

The Lakers have a brutal schedule for the remainder of the season, so maybe we can stay ahead of them and OKC could make a run for 3rd place as well. Would be quite sweet to see the Lakers face the Spurs in the 2nd round, where we could play OKC, a team that we've been pretty good against recently.

Realistically, though, the Lakers should finish as one of the three best teams in the conference and we would have to face them in the 2nd round, if we were to survive the 1st round.

Feel free to not like Lebron, I don't care for him much myself. Just saying, that was a bizarre criticism.
Bull S**t. Quit trying to cover your ass because you hadn't watched the play when you commented. LBJ clearly waved him off, and Wade was WIDE open, not a guy within 5 feet of him. Hmmm...so I guess Miller is just going to decide to pass it to LBJ who is tightly covered and precariously close to being out of bounds over a WIDE open teammate. Right. Okay.

What does it mean, "waved him off?"
