Do we underrate the possible impact ex-Cowboys like Irvin and Sanders have had on this club? All these guys who have had troubles with other teams like TO, Tank and Pac man come here and those are the 1st guys they meet and we never hear negative thing about them again. Well its too early to say that about Pac man but he's starting off on a good note atleast.

Seems like we have a cherry schedule this season:
01 - @ Cleveland
02 - PHILADELPHIA
03 - @ Green Bay
04 - WASHINGTON
05 - CINCINNATI
06 - @ Arizona
07 - @ St. Louis
08 - TAMPA BAY
09 - @ NY Giants
10 - BYE
11 - @ Washington
12 - SF 49ERS
12 - SEATTLE
14 - @ Pittsburgh
15 - NY GIANTS
16 - BALTIMORE
17 - @ Philadelphia
The 10th week is a perfect time for a bye - not too early/late in the season...
Of course we have to play the Champs twice and the 'Skins are always a possible upset, but nobody else on this schedule scares me... The Steelers, Bucs, Browns and Seahawks all have the potential to be good this season, and the Eagles seem due for a revival, but the Bengals, Cardinals, Rams, 49ers and Ravens will probably either suck or be mediocre and the Packers don't seem relevant without Favre (of course there could always be a sleeper in the bunch...)
Other than the Giants, we don't play any teams we KNOW will be good next season - no Pats, Colts, Chargers, Jags, and even the "better" teams we DO play (like the Packers and Seahawks) seem like they'll be worse after replacing Brett Favre with Aaron Rodgers and Shaun Alexander with Julius Jones...
14-2 - Super Bowl XLIII Champs

Definitely easier on paper than last year's schedule, but road games in Green Bay and Pittsburgh will be extremely tough, especially late in the season, brrr--week 14 in Pitt. We shouldn't lose any home games to be honest with you; Philly, Washington, Cincy, TB, 49ers, JJ's, Giants, Ravens... if we win 7 or 8 home games, we'll have home field in the NFC again.

The Green Bay game is earlier in the season and they don't have a solid QB - no snow, no worries...
I think we'll split with the Giants and lose one to either Pittsburgh or end up with a fluke loss to someone else (most likely the 'Skins, according to history...)
Also - I boldly predict that we'll never lose another game in Texas Stadium...

I love how #81 had 81 catches last year.
sidenote*
I can't wait when TO moves ahead of Chris Carter to be 2nd all time in Receiving TD's this year (just behind his mentor, Jerry Rice)
and when he moves into 3rd all time in total TD's (behind Rice and Emmitt)

On the one hand, I wish this season would start so we could see what this team is capable of... On the other hand, I'm eager to see how Jerry Jones will spend the $4.5mil left in cap space ($3mil from restructuring the T.O. deal, plus what I believe was $1.5mil before that...)
Any ideas on how to best spend Jerry's money?

Hamlin, Canty and draft picks. Also it is about $8.5M right now.

I remember we had $5.5mil, but thought we spent $4mil recently on re-signing someone (can't recall who right now), then added $3mil with the T.O. deal (for a total of $4.5mil cap space...)
But then again - maybe NOBODY was re-signed with that $4mil and all those years of partying too hard during my youth have finally caught up with me in the form of brain-rot (very likely...)

Under Their Nose
Cowboys Might Find Hidden Gems in AFL
link
IRVING, Texas - One long scan up and down the Cowboys roster and it's easy to make a rather bold conclusion:
This team is good.
At least it looks good. Right here in the early stages of June, when all teams are undefeated, the Cowboys certainly look every bit the Super Bowl contenders they will be labeled in the upcoming months.
Top to bottom, there is plenty of talent. At some positions you have to wonder just how the Cowboys are going to get these guys on the field, such as at cornerback, linebacker and even running back.
Of course, we all know it's super-early to be talking about this team doing anything "Super" this season.
But talent is talent. The Cowboys had plenty of it last year and they put it on display. They probably have even more talent this year. Only time will tell if they can capitalize on it at the end of the season.
But you won't find a coach anywhere, on any team, any league on any level that will ever complain about "too much talent." It doesn't exist.
Therefore, you can always get better.
The Cowboys won 13 games last year, and if you didn't know that, check out one of Wade Phillips' press conferences sometime. But just down the road, the Dallas Desperados are once again putting together a remarkable season in the Arena Football League.
Currently, the Desperados are 11-2 and eyeballing another division title and possible home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Although, that hasn't mattered the last two years as the Desperados saw 13-3 and 15-1 seasons end abruptly with home losses in the playoffs.
It's definitely Arena Bowl-or-Bust this year for the Desperados, who will play one of the biggest regular-season games in franchise history Saturday night at American Airlines Center (7 p.m. CDT). The Philadelphia Soul is coming to town, and just like in the NFL, Dallas and Philadelphia teams don't like each other much. Check that - they don't like each other at all.
The rivalry intensified earlier this season when both teams met in Philadelphia with 8-0 records. The Soul not only got the best of Dallas that night, whipping the Desperados 57-28 on national TV, but rubbed their noses in it.
The rematch should be a lot of fun, especially if the Desperados can deliver some payback.
Obviously, no one is trying to say Arena Football can compete with the NFL. But on a different level, the excitement is still there. And whether you agree or not, there is plenty of talent in the AFL. Talent that should be playing on the next level.
The Desperados obviously have some players, or they wouldn't have this 39-6 record over the past three seasons. And some of them, yes maybe a handful, can play in the NFL.
It's not always your top guys. In fact, any average fan at Saturday night's game will tell you the Desperados' best players are either quarterback Clint Dolezel, the only football player on any level to throw more than 900 touchdown passes, Mr. Ironman Will Pettis, who still plays both offense and defense although the AFL rules have all but eliminated the two-way players these days, or maybe defensive stalwarts Duke Pettijohn and Colston Weatherington, a former Cowboys' draft pick in 2001.
The Desperados also have receiver Marcus Nash, one of only 43 players to have Super Bowl rings from two different teams, and other former NFL players such as Pete Hunter, Jermaine Jones and Andrae Thurman.
But you won't find any of those names on my list. For what it's worth, here's my list of Desperados players who really could make a difference in the NFL.
Here's a look at four guys that, if given the opportunity, could have a place on even this talent-filled Cowboys roster.
Anthony Armstrong, WR - With one look at this 5-11, 175-pound wide receiver, you'd probably say there's no way he's big enough to even play in the AFL, not to mention the NFL. But the reality of it is that the arena game is simply not big enough for Armstrong.
The 50-yard field just doesn't allow him to use his speed. And that's what Armstrong could bring immediately to the Cowboys - flat-out speed. Armstrong can run past any defender in the arena league, and that's with or without, the running head-start that is allowed in this league.
Look at the Cowboys' current roster. When you get to the final positions at wide receiver, there is Sam Hurd, Miles Austin, Isaiah Stanback, Mike Jefferson and then a few rookie free agents, where Mark Bradford might be heading that list. But with the possible exception of Austin, Armstrong is probably faster than all of them.
The most impressive part of this kid is not just speed, but his toughness for a smaller guy. Not only can he run, but he'll take huge licks and not only pop right up, but with the ball in his hands.
He's surprised the Desperados coaching staff this year with his consistency, which is one reason he's been a big factor in the offense. Armstrong ranks third on the team with 66 catches for 863 yards, but has a team-high 13.1 yard average per catch, which is rather impressive for a 50-yard field.
If that's not enough, he has some ties to the Cowboys coaching staff. Offensive assistant and quality control coach Wes Phillips, the son of head coach Wade Phillips, actually coached Armstrong at West Texas A&M three seasons ago.
David Dixon, LB - Here's a guy who has a hard time just getting on the field in the arena league, but would have a better shot to play in the NFL. With the 20-man rosters on game day, it's hard to have just specialty players active, which is why Dixon has played in only five games.
But he makes a huge difference on special teams, which is where he would play right away on any NFL squad. Dixon is listed as a linebacker at 6-1, 240 pounds. Maybe it's me, but 240 is a bit generous. He looks more like the 225 and he certainly runs like it. The guy can fly for a man his size and he's fearless. Fast, strong and fearless . . . that equals special teams to me.
Since the Desperados started using him to cover kicks, he made an immediate difference. He's usually the first one down to make the play, or at least force the returner into another direction.
The Desperados have used Dixon on defense as a situational linebacker, and even inserted him into the goal-line packages on offense, where he scored a rushing touchdown earlier this season.
While it's tough to find a spot for him in the arena game, he'd have a place on special teams in the NFL without a doubt. With 53-man rosters, you can afford a spot or two if you've got a special teams ace. The Cowboys just lost theirs in Keith Davis and even Jacques Reeves and Nate Jones were key special teams players as well.
Terrance Dotsy, OL - He plays offensive line for the Desperados, but is officially called a tight end. Dotsy has even played some center on occasion.
In the NFL, it's not a given that Dotsy would play, but he's got enough athleticism for a 6-3, 300-pounder that he should get the chance.
The Cowboys actually worked him out briefly last summer, but didn't give him a call for training camp.
It's likely that Dotsy would play either guard or center in the NFL, obviously depending on the team and its blocking scheme. But he might be able to play tight end, especially in goal-line situations. Now, Dotsy wouldn't be running down the field or anything, but as a third tight end to come in and serve as another blocker with an occasional threat to catch a pass, he could do it. He's got exceptional hands for a lineman, fifth on the team with 10 catches for 83 yards this year.
The Cowboys don't exactly have much depth at center or guard. That could be a spot to add a player or two before training camp.
Bobby Perry, OLB - The Desperados officially list Perry as a "Jack" linebacker, but he's a true defensive back. In fact, he plays a handful of snaps every game in the secondary.
Perry is a ball-hawking defender, who like Armstrong, could probably benefit from more room to run. The Cowboys had their eye on him two years ago at safety, but nothing ever materialized.
He currently leads the Desperados in both tackles (57 ½) and interceptions with five, along with a team-high 14 pass deflections.
Safety might be the thinnest spot on the roster right now for the Cowboys, especially with Ken Hamlin missing all of the OTA practices and conditioning program with a contract holdout. Davis signed with the Dolphins, leaving just Roy Williams, Courtney Brown and Pat Watkins for experienced depth.
And unlike what happened five years ago to Will Pettis, the rules have changed, making it somewhat easier for the Cowboys to sign Desperados players. Dallas is one of four AFL franchises with dual ownership in the NFL. The league rules now force teams to have a 72-hour waiver period to claim its own players. Before it was a 10-day process and when the Cowboys signed Pettis back in 2003, he was claimed by the Saints on the ninth day, although he was never given a fair shot to make New Orleans' roster.
But now, the Cowboys can certainly wait three days to claim a player. Especially if he's good enough to help.

The schedule looks easy now but they always do before the season starts. Next thing you know you get about 3 or 4 suprise teams and the schedule ends up looking a bit harder as the season progresses.

Romo proves to be class of celebrity foursome at Torrey Pines
LA JOLLA, Calif. -- The Golf Digest U.S. Open Challenge on Friday was instructive, which is to say that it met its own challenge, and in the process proved that Tiger Woods was right.
A year ago, Woods said at Oakmont CC, site of the 2007 U.S. Open, that a 10-handicap couldn't break 100 there. That became the challenge for a foursome of single-digit amateurs who played the South Course at Torrey Pines, site of the 2008 U.S. Open next week, largely from the back tees Friday.
The damage report: Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo (whose handicap index is 2.2) shot a 13-over-par 84; pop star Justin Timberlake (a 6.0) shot 98; "Today" host Matt Lauer (a 6.2) shot 100; and John Atkinson (an 8.1) -- who was chosen from a pool of 56,000 contest entrants nationwide -- shot 114.
"They're inhuman how well they stripe it," Timberlake said of the professionals who -- albeit better armed on the talent front -- will face the same challenge next week. "We're just proud to be a part of actually showing it."
Not a single birdie was made, and the longest putt holed was a 20-footer Lauer made for par at the last hole. Atkinson failed to make a single par, yet he was the winner by anyone's measure. A year ago, Atkinson was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer.
His own personal gallery included an estimated 60 people, family and friends from his hometown of Omaha, Neb., who spent the six hours, 15 minutes it took the foursome to complete the round loudly encouraging his every swing. So did the celebrities in his group and their caddies, who included Greg Norman (looping for Lauer) and Butch Harmon (working for Timberlake).
"I had a great time," Atkinson said. "I had a certain score that I wanted to hit, but that wasn't going to happen. But I feel it's like life -- you've just got to keep going."
Atkinson bogeyed each of the first four holes, according to a game plan that called for him to hit hybrids off the tee to keep the ball in the fairway and to play for bogey. After that, "the wheels came off," he said, and he was unable to reattach them.
"For a guy who's played one member-guest [tournament] in his life, it was pretty impressive," said his own caddie, renowned sport psychologist Bob Rotella. "I think he felt very good about it."
The course also won, incidentally. "It's hard to tell anyone how thick that rough is," Rotella said. Atkinson played one shot from the rough when he couldn't actually see his ball, he said.
Romo, clearly the best player in the group and one who has entered U.S. Open qualifiers, was in thick rough off the tee at 18 and swung as hard as he could with a sand wedge and advanced the ball only about 20 feet and into a fairway bunker.
"I think we've got the rough about right," said Mike Davis, the USGA's senior director of rules and competition.

But I feel it's like life -- you've just got to keep going."

ok, we've talked about the problem of evil, and the extent of the atonement's application, but my real question to you is, "Could Jesus dunk?"

If we meet the Giants in the playoffs, I definitely want to lose to them in the regular season then.

"I still go through it in my head," Nowitzki said. "One of my last nights in Germany [last month], I was trying to go to sleep, but I couldn't. I was thinking about the free throw I missed [late in Game 3], about different situations that happened in that series. I'll never forget it. It's going to stay in my mind until we win it all."

Found this on the Cowboys forum:
Quote:
Heard this on Sirius last night. Ray Lewis is going to be released and he desperately wants to come to Dallas. This came from Jerry Rice who says he has insiders from the Ravens organization and in the Ray Lewis camp.
Also stated that Strahan would not be returning to the Giants, his insiders tell him that Strahan has decided to retire

Where would he play? D. Ware - Z. Thomas - B. James - G. Ellis/A. Spencer. Maybe he and Thomas could share time?

Sources: Owens placed in 'reasonable cause' testing program
On the same day the Dallas Cowboys announced that wide receiver Terrell Owens had agreed to a contract extension with $13 million in guaranteed money, Owens was in New York meeting with NFL officials after being placed in the league's "reasonable cause" testing program for performance-enhancing drugs, sources told ESPN.
Owens was placed in the program because he missed day-of telephone calls to set up random tests, the sources said. A player that misses a test can be subject to disciplinary action, but because Owens had a "plausible" explanation, league administrators decided he would not be suspended or fined.
Instead, Owens can now be randomly tested for performance enhancers up to a maximum of 24 annual screenings, and these additional screenings can be required, if the NFL chooses to do so, for the remainder of his NFL career.
An NFL spokesman said the league would have no comment because of the confidentiality restrictions of the program. Cowboys officials had no immediate comment. Owens' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, was unavailable for comment, but his partner and brother, Jason Rosenhaus, said: "We're not allowed to comment on anything pertaining to that topic."
After receiving a letter from the NFL informing him of the action, Owens met with NFL officials on the morning of June 3 because he was in the New York area. Owens has since passed a test for performance enhancers, the sources said. The sources added that Owens has never had a positive test for any illegal substance.
Owens was warned that he risks a suspension if administrators experience a similar road block as they did when they attempted to reach him two weeks ago. On one occasion, the primary phone number Owens provided was that of Drew Rosenhaus. Subsequently, the sources said, the alternate phone number Owens provided went unanswered, except for an automated message that said: "The voice mailbox for this user is full." Owens told the league that his phone had not shown any record of its missed calls.
The testing program requires players to make themselves accessible and communicate their specific location when they are contacted for a test.
It was late in the afternoon of June 3 when Owens and the Cowboys held a news conference at the Cowboys' headquarters at Valley Ranch to announce the receiver's new three-year, $27 million contract extension with $13 million of new guaranteed money.
Chris Mortensen is an NFL reporter for ESPN. Information from ESPN.com's Ed Werder contributed to this report.

So, this article is about a non-story?
I bet ESPN runs with it anyway to create some drama & controversy around Owens during this extremely boring off-season...

BREAKING NEWS: OWENS OVERDOSES ON VOICEMAIL, RUSHED TO REASONABLE CAUSE PROGRAM
Weeks after being forced into a four years, $34 million contract by Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, Terrell Owens accumulated a potentially-lethal number of voicemail messages on his phone. While no one knows Owens's motives just yet, sources close to the player have voiced concern that this may have been a passive-aggressive attempt to escape the torments of this mortal coil. Owens was rushed to the league's Reasonable Cause Testing Program, which immediately commenced testing. More at 10.
