But Humphries can actually play defense, and he's taller than Bass.

Bass playing center = bad idea
Humphries playing center = bad idea
The reason we get crushed at the 5 is because we're content with players like Bass and Hump playing the 5.
Keep our 5 with Damp/Gooden, and leave it like that.

Add Gasol to that list and you have 5 teams that have legitimate scoring centers and Minnie doesnt scare me in the slightest. Those teams with "centers" are the biggies though even if Duncan is a 4/5 tweener.
We also have guys that can really harass and hassle bigs even if they give up height, they can muscle up and harass them down low and keep them from getting the ball.
Im not terribly afraid right now, especially with how well Marion has played some of the best 7 footers in the league.

I'm content with Damp/Gooden/Dirk(At the end of the game)
That should be all we need, we don't need any other options.
On a random note, when should we expect to someone on this team dropped to make it 15?

IMO Hump is a better defender at the 5 that Gooden...The guy is also a better defender and rebounder that Bass and at least 3 inches taller, he play some 5 with the Raptors, the /problem with Hump is that the guy has tunnel vision and will not pass the ball, I am not saying that he will see major minutes at the 5 but I will rather have him that Bass at the 5.

I imagine there will be a couple more signings that will make everyone flip a lid, but they will be for training camp. At the end of training camp all the camp fodder+Jawai/Williams will be gone

Ok here's what the folks on Raps forum had to say about Hump and Jawaii: http://www.raptorsforum.com/f/f5/kri...aii-10406.html
Those Raps fans are very cool folks.

I was looking at both Humps and Bass's stats for this year. Hump has half of what Bass's stats are, but in half the minutes per game...
Bass
PPG = 8.5
RPG = 4.5
APG = 0.5
MPG = 19.4
Hump
PPG = 3.9
RPG = 2.4
APG = 0.3
MPG = 9.1
That being said, it's very possible that under Rick Carlisle, Hump could mold into our next Bass. I just don't want him playing center...

Damp guards every single one of those guys as well as anyone who is not a superstar and probably better than most supersta's because he can risk fouls. His problem is the Nene's and the quicker guys. We will NOT get destroyed in the paint. I would like to see another banger, but unless damp is fouled out, he's fine defensively against those guys.
Add Gasol to that list, damp shuts him down as well as anyone.

Someone's gotta do it. Isn't Nivins going over seas? So I guess our money's on Hump.

Gooden will take Bass' minutes. I doubt humphries will see much playing time.

Damp used to shut Gasol down but now Gasol uses his quickness to beat Damp just like Nene does, Damp can hold his own against Shaq, Duncan, and most of the big guys in the NBA but he just has a hard time with the quick guys so hopefully Gooden can help us out there.

Because we were trying to get Gortat? AKA an actual center.
In the end, Dirk > Bass/Humphries at center. This is a worst case scenario, ideally Gooden and Damp can take care of the bulk but we simply aren't winning a championship with Humphries getting minutes at center. Not with our main competition having such potent post threats.

Money. Bass is overrated around here and was nothing more than a decent back-up 4 for the Mavs. Bass shot the same mid-ranger every single time and was awesome a put-backs. That was pretty much the extent of his game.
The combo of Gooden/Humphries > Bass talent wise. Back-up fours are pretty easy to come by as you can see with our current roster.

Because Bass was overrated. I never undersood why people were so in love with him. Yes he hustled and made a shot here or there. He sucked on D and played dumb. We can get that from any of the guys we got now with better D and smarter play. Bass is very replaceable.

because you'd have to be really, really dumb to pay 5-6 million/yr for a guy that would be playing limited minutes behind an allstar 7 footer.

Lets ask Otis Smith how he feels about that.

Oklahoma will want a guy averaging 2.1pts, 2.4reb in 9mpg with a 34million dollar contract why?

Dirk gave another interview to a German newspaper, here's what I thought is news:
He's not sure about playing for Germany(assuming they get a wildcard) in the WC in Turkey next summer, in contrast to the statement issued by the DBB which is stating he'll take part. He would love to play, but he said it's too early to tell and that he's willing to listen to Cuban before making the final decision.
This time he mentions Boston, San Antonio and the Lakers as teams who made some good additions and who'll be hard to overcome(speaking about winning the title). But he goes on saying the Mavs made some additions as well and that they'll try to have a say in the end. He hopes that Josh can stay healthy for once, since he's the key for the Mavs' success.
Other than in previous years(when he played internationally over the summer), he's excited about training camp and can't wait to see how he's doing formwise, after not playing since May and only working out individually with Holger. He didn't touch a ball for nine weeks between May and July.
If you're wondering what he did in his spare time, he took some Spanish lessons - he said he can't speak fluently yet, but understands everything pretty well.
Concerning the pregnancy claim by C.T., he said at age 31 he knew he would be able to meet the challenges of being a single parent and raising the kid "on his own", but it was a great relief that there is no child after all.

But somehow that year at 7.3million looks a lot more logical when you think he'd get at least 20mpg this year, and as Damp falls out, could get up to a 40mpg guy. In Orlando he's destined to be a smaller minute guy for the length of his contract.
Not saying his contract is ridiculous, just saying that he's got a large contract and wont play big minutes or put up big numbers and thus is overpaid by ORlando, and will be less appealing to teams as far as trades because he will play in such limited minutes. In hard economic times, few teams want to take on a guy for 5 years whose playing ability is hard to judge by the sheer fact that the sample size is small from small MPG.
BTW Im cheering for him on his awful Polish team, but I really hope he gets fat and turns into their own Diop (who also was in the midst of an MLE bidding war and who also got a long-term MLE contract)

My thoughts about that Humphries/Gooden stuff: Im less worried how good they can play the 5. I just dont wanna see them taking plenty of stupid shots when we have 4 great scorers.
The rest will come...
