[QUOTE=EricaLubarsky;1453682]What's special about 21-6-7?
Round numbers look nicer than 5.7 or 20.9

Can someone please end the media...
http://www.nba.com/article/2019/02/2...ladder-week-16
These guys continue to brain wash readers into thinking Young has a chance or deserves to catch Luka. Even his recent surge pales in comparison to the body of work Luka is putting up.
WTF are these people doing...

Luka is already lulling the media to sleep with his consistency. Seriously, that same writer called games of 28-10-10 and 26-10-7 "a pair of respectable games" - I wouldn't get too worked up about this click-bait hack.

Got this from twitter - @mavstats
remembering that some players came in at age 18-Kobe and KG...
Luka Doncic's here are his all-time NBA ranks as a teenager:
5th in points (1,194)
3rd in assists (324)
1st in 3-pointers made (141)
t-3rd in 30-point games (7)
3rd in double-doubles (15)
1st in triple-doubles (4)
55th with 57 games played. Kobe is first at 150.

So trey was almost as good as Luka in February which also ignores that trey is literally the worst defensive player in basketball(not that Luka is good on that end) and that means that this is now a race??? Luka being so far ahead for the first 4 months just doesn't matter???

Exactly. I've been able to ignore the brain dead media + social media B.S. mostly over the past 7 years. Now people can't even keep up with basic basketball 101.
Trae has always been an extremely streaky shooter. He will go 1-2 months on fire followed by shooting 30% for 2 months. He can pass, no doubt. He cannot rebound or play defense.

Dude just stop. Both teams got their guy why are you shitting on someone that's not on your team? Trae is two yrs removed from h.s. going up against other kids 155lbs, eating pop tarts for breakfast with ps4 on their minds. Luka is two yrs removed from playing against grown men 220lbs, dining with ppl who drink wine and liquor daily, has mortgages and wives with kids.
Luka been a pro for some time, is 6"8 with an nba body. Trae is 6"1, 180lbs soak and wet. He doesnt need to be in the paint fighting for rebounds. You sound like you're angry Trae has worked out for the Hawks and is putting up record numbers for a rookie

I don't think anyone is "angry" about Trae. The comments you're responding to are that he's a streaky shooter, which has been true throughout his college and NBA career, and that he can't rebound or defend well, which are both empirically true and unlikely to change.
Trae Young may eventually become the evolutionary version of Stephen Curry and be the undisputed best player from this draft, but that doesn't change the fact that he hasn't been anywhere near as valuable as Luka Doncic this season.

Angry would be going to the Hawks forum, creating an account then calling out one of their posters and downplaying Trae and talking up Luka. I see only one person who fits that description.

My issue is more so with the media. I take issue with the crazy talk that he is somehow making the ROY contest close by playing within range of Luka for half the season. That’s assuming he finishes the next 25 games as he has more recently. Even now when he’s streaking hot, it’s arguable if he’s outperforming Luka who is surrounded by far less talent.
In a vacuum, I have no issues with Trae nor the Hawks fanbase. Just like us last year, they are looking at the glass half full. The issue is click bait and people actually believe it.
Edit: also, dont pretend you dont have some agenda here. You are biased AF creating an account to make your first post in response to some mild Trae post. Most my blast was at media/social media. Own whatever dog you have in this fight.

Luka doesn't really have an NBA body though. If you think that you haven't really seen many NBA bodies. He probably came into the NBA in by far the worst physical condition out of all the top 2018 rookies.
He's got genetic size, but I would expect significant work on his body that makes quite an on court difference over the next 2 seasons.

I saw this today and had to giggle
And speaking of Young, the Traetheists making the case that he's the ROY have to assign ridiculous weight to assist numbers, because that's the only category in which he's beating Doncic. Despite his absurd shooting lately, Young still ranks No. 437 in ESPN's real plus-minus largely due to his league-worst mark defensively. Doncic is No. 82 overall.

Solid article and good read. Like I've said a few times, the ROY "race" isn't all that close, but it generates clicks and interest so people will talk about it until Doncic hoists the trophy.

@espn_macmahon: How many active players would you bet on joining LeBron and Dirk in the 30,000-point club? I like the odds of Kevin Durant, James Harden and Luka Doncic.

Steve Nash weighs in on Luka Doncic: 'Incredibly unique player, historically'

"He's way beyond being 19 years old [Doncic turned 20 in February], just his feels and his mannerisms, always in control. I think he really understands the game. He's got a great basketball I.Q."

I want to believe that he reaches 20 triple doubles by the age of 21. What kind of company will that put him in? Luka and anyone else? Probably just Luka.

We shall see. He is more than half way there and has plenty of his time left and who knows how long he will play.

75 games a year with 25PPG and he would need almost eight more years.
The past two seasons he missed 40 games combined

I think all those games Curry missed early in his career will make it really difficult to get there. Giannis maybe, but unless he can learn to shoot the 3 ball I’m not sure he makes it either. Durant is the only one I can see getting there.

RWestbrook might even give it a run. Who would have thought Dirk would.

Russ is just under 19,000 now at 30 years old. I don’t think he gets there. His athleticism will fall off and his jumper is already broke.

I checked the two most likely: Oscar Robertson and Magic Johnson. Oscar started playing at 22. Magic had one season at age 20 with 7 triple doubles in the regular season and another 5 in the playoffs.

Bobby Karalla@bobbykaralla
Sign of the times: Luka Doncic has made 164 3s this season. Mavs legend Rolando Blackman, the franchise's second all-time leading scorer, made 168 in more than 29,000 minutes played as a Maverick.

I guess all these players forgot how he was at the beginning of the season..
Damian Lillard on Trae Young’s rookie of the year chances: “It’s a real discussion. It’s a real discussion.”

Eh, it`s just talk. Doncic is 99% rookie of the year. If you bet 100$ on him to be ROY you win 1 dollar, and some bookies already paid out customers who bet on Doncic to be ROY (that almost never happens!). If you bet on Young you get 15-20 times the money.
I`ll trust the bookies much more than players who probably didn`t watch any games aside from the scouting report, and who might be biased.

If Luka can pick up and "extra" 5 rebounds he will boost his average to 6 per game
So if he gets 11 tonight and just 6 against the Spurs he will post a 21/7/6 rookie season

Luka grabbed 16 tonight, but he might not play tomorrow, which would make him one shy.

I have no idea why I wrote rebounds instead of assists
He got his 5 extra and is now averaging 6.0
Luka should sit out tonight
