Nah, I was under the same impression - either he didn't realize the meaning or he really didn't like the notion of being an "unpredictable" (to put it nicely) team.

So, will Dirk be All-NBA 1st or 2nd Team this year?
David Aldrige got him in the 2nd Team in his opinion - it's surely a hard decision between Dirk and Kevin Durant (LeBron will be MVP probably and so def. 1st Team).
What do you think, should he be in the 1st or 2nd All-NBA-Team this year? And what will the "Experts" decide?

It won't be a hard decision between Dirk and Durant. As much as I don't like to say it, based on his impressive numbers Durant will be in the 1st team. Dirk will be a lock for the 2nd team though.

Dirk's 4 POW awards is 2nd most of any player this season (LeBron has 6).

And some ppl pick even Anthony over Dirk.
For me is Dirk > Durant.
Better team record and way less TO makes up for 5 points less.

Dirk went from shooting a low three-point % to having a career high three-point %. He's at 42% from three. He's also shooting a career high ft% at 91.4%.

I swear I was just about to make this point and was contemplating making a new thread about it, must of stole it from my mind. He is gonna break 2 personal bests and is absolutely rocking from 3 and the free throw line right now.
From free throw line: he has made 76 of his last 77 that is 98.5 %
From 3: 18-27 (66.666%)

Dirk still gets better every season, yet people think he's already peaked...
He has another 3-5 years of being a top-tier player in NBA (aka "the window") and probably won't out-live his usefulness in this league for another decade...

I don't understand how Durant is more valuable than Dirk.
I'd say their individual importance to their teams is about equal...

He's the league's leading scorer. It's not that easy to score more points than LeBron, Kobe and Wade. We all knew he is great, but to think he would average over 30 ppg in only his third year, with a nice fg%, it's quite insane. He deserves every accolade he gets imho.

Oh, I get it - I'm not trying to take anything away from Durant, but I think a guy who does as much for his #2 seed team should get the same recognition as a guy who does it for his #8 seed team.
Dirk should at least be in the conversation...

Once again, I'm not talking about what Durant isn't, but about what Dirk is...
Dirk's MVP season: 24.6 PPG / 8.9 RPG / .416 3P% / .904 FT% / .80 BLK / .70 STL / 8.9 TO / 36.2 MIN
This season: 25.1 PPG / 7.7 RPG / .420 3P% / .914 FT% / 1.00 BLK / .90 STL / 7.7 TO / 37.6 MIN
He's also the #7 scorer in the league and is about to lead his team to the #2 seed in the West - he should at least be in the conversation...

And down the stretch he's gotten it done, durant has, is and will be a phenomenal player (wonder if he'll get the "soft" criticism dirk did, probably not.......) but that team has faltered down the stretch a little bit whereas dirks has not.

James
Kobe
Dirk
Thats my ranking.
Dirks team is higher than OKC and Denver, he has some points less than both of them but also less TO and higher FG%

Another thing, Dirk is 2nd in the NBA in 4th quarter scoring and supremely clutch.
While he might grow into one (he's so young), Durant is absolutely unclutch. I have seen this guys miss more big shots than any other star. In fact, I dk if I've ever seen him hit one.
Durant is an amazing player, easily top 8. But imo he has become overrated by people who think he's top 3 in MVP voting, ect. He turns it over a ton, he's not a very good passer, he's not clutch. He is nowhere near LBJ obviously. The extra points off his gift fts don't wow me. He's efficient, but he's not shooting lights out from the field or three. The main thing he's got going is he shoots 10 fts a game.

One thing Durant did in crunch time the other night was pass the ball to the ref out of bounds on the perimeter. Sometimes the Spurs do stupid stuff like this, but at least they wear similar dreary colors. The Thunder wear bright blue.

Must say, LBJ has had an awesome season. The reg MVP would be pretty much deserved.

Fish posted these numbers about two hours ago (kind of fitting to how we take Dirk for granted too often is that it took a Jazz broadcaster to dig them up for to make an MVP case for Dirk):
Quote:
Notes Locke (using “clutch-situation’’ late-game/close-game stats as defined by Stats Inc thusly: http://www.82games.com/0910/CSORT11.HTM fourth quarter or overtime, less than five minutes left, neither team ahead by more than five points):
Free-Throwing "Clutch"
Dirk (62-of-64 97%) LeBron (74-of-91 81%) Kobe (46-of-55 84%) Durant (69-of-81 85%)
3-Point Shooting "Clutch"
Dirk (13-of-18 72%), LeBron (17-of-54 32%), Kobe (11-of-31 35%), Durant (10-of-31 32%)
Field-Goal Shooting "Clutch"
Dirk (64-of-137 47%), LeBron (68-of-147 46%), Kobe (48-of-111 43%), Durant (43-of-115 37%)
|
Pretty sure after tonight(hopefully Mavs starters rest in the 4th after SA's rested even more during the game) Dirk will have improved his season clutch FT and 3Pt percentages over the last five regular season games, making him double clutch!

I'll go with Dirk first team. Some question who the real leader is in OKC, Durant or Westbrook.

Kidd is the clear Mavs leader (Dirk says as much)...so what is your point?
I would take Dirk over Durant for first team as well though.

Point is, without Kidd, Mavs can probably get to 50 wins. Just Dirk will shoulder a huge load. Without Westbrook, I don't see OKC winning more than 30 games.

When are the all-nba teams announced? Dirk deserves it over Durant but I doubt he'll get it.
