Pretty much. Dirk and Nelson have an off game. Nelson gets attacked and Dirk just had an off game.

It's a team and when one guy has an off night, another guy steps up. Basketball is played by humans with ups and downs, which is why the best record in NBA history is 72-10 and not 82-0.

I definitely have been harsh on Nelson, but only because I know he is better than this. The bright side is he played decent defense on Wall at least early on and can break down a defense at will.

....I think this is why he gets attacked.

He takes too many shots and shoots a bad %. It's not just one game.

5:18 Tyson Chandler defensive rebound 67-65
5:07 Jameer Nelson traveling 67-65
4:52 67-67 John Wall makes two point shot

Where Nelson lost the ball on offense, and then Wall just shot over him on defense. This was really painful to watch.
All that is absolutely true. But the next play he drove to the hoop and hit a wide open Parsons for a corner 3.

No doubt Nelson is the weakest link right now. But I don't think he'd be taking those pull up 3's if Carlisle didn't want him to. More likely, Carlisle wants a PG who can, and will HIT that shot...a la Nick Van Exel. I think he's doing what the coach wants, but not as well as the coach wants him to.

And how is it that Wall, the opposing PG who averages over 20 was held to half that?

It would be great if Felton is better, but if he's not, I expect Nelson to be good enough by season's end. He is neither untalented or stupid. He's just got to make fewer stupid plays.I expect one of these guys to get traded at the deadline, so they are essentially fighting to remain on the Mavs. good luck.

Who do you think you can compare to Dirk favorably? Anyone on the team? Anyone in the league?

Nelson's taking only a small fraction of the team's shots and he's in a funk. So what? if he was taking a lot more than Dirk, I'd be upset about Rick's coaching and not about Nelson, but he's taking fewer and putting in good effort on a brand new team. He was never fantastic, but he was serviceable and he'll get there for us. Or he won't, but a 5 game stretch of stats in the first 1/8 of the season doesn't seem to be a good way to judge a new PG.

Attacking Nelson is just dumb, a healthy Harris and Barea will help to share his job, I am still glad we have him on the starting line up.

I agree, Markus. Don't know why people are acting like this is his first bad game, when someone literally just posted his efficiency numbers on the season compared to the other 65 pg's in the league.

Anyway, I'm just glad he didn't see the floor again after the 3rd quarter. Hopefully seeing JJ have to play 15 mins straight to close the game will make him realize he needs to play better.
