You can't be serious
Kyrie most nights is the guy who settles things down especially in the 4th qtrs
He often involves Lively and his speeds up the mavs tempo offensively
Guys like Green and DJJ really excell in the open floor with kyrie

What a huge bounce back win. That?s the only remedy for last night.
Game ball goes to PJ Washington. All around hell of a game.
Luka with an ?off night? of 30 point triple double lol

Need to move Maxi. Kidd can't help but overplay him and THJ. Our twin bigs do better without Maxi.

It was ugly but with tired hearts and a hangover from blowing that 10pt lead at 4:00 left, it is gutsy.

Missed the game but see Gaff played 25 mins and Lively 23.
Did Kidd miss the game or get tossed or something?

Maxi didn't play. The guy just isn't very good. He has played better lately, but compared to the unplayable nature he has previously displayed...welp...
Maxi is fine as a spot 3rd big man who can, yes, switch better on the perimeter.
But that wasn't an issue this game and good coaches should know how to utilize their bigs to punish smaller teams.

Chicken or the egg. I'd say fire Kidd if he can't make it past the first round with this roster.
Maxi and THJ in their correct roles are absolutely rotation worthy. It's the same thing we are seeing with Powell, though with additions he's almost just depth in case of injury.
Maxi at the 4 and THJ as a spark plug 2, both from off of the bench, are great depth. A good coach knows when to sit both, especially if one keeps being hunted on the defensive end in THJ.
THJ didn't appear to learn shit all on shot selection last night. Jacked up a couple of deep contested threes. He's nice when he's hitting, but I he's one for certain that I won't miss...

Exactly. Maxi is just fine as a backup 4 or less and in limited minutes, but definitely good enough for a contending rotation, at least in the regular season. This team needs Maxi for depth, THJ not so much.
It's on the coaching at this point.

THJ isn't a smart player. Plain and simple.
But you're spot on with what their roles should be. Totally agree that it's a luxury to have Maxi and THJ in more limited roles.
But man, even Exum who has been out since the last Star Wars movie looked better than THJ. He understands flow, ball handling, and when to take a freakin' good shot.

THJ isnt necessarily hunted. He just doesnt know when to hedge, loses track of his man by ball watching, has a terrible feel and anticipation of screens.
He is a lost cause and shouldnt be getting more than 12-15 mins a game unless he is having one of those flamethrower games where he has it going immediately.
Kidd and the coaching staff should have already eliminated many of the same defensive 101 mistakes they have made since he was hired. Just rolling mostly with what RC had in place isn't good enough.
The roster is better but we consistently make fundamental errors in defensive strategy that will force us to have an incredibly hot offensive playoff run to contend.

You hit the nail on the head here. Kidd's entire system is just a watered down version of Rick's. It's just that Kidd can't play call for shit. Lineups are about equal in bizarness, although I do think Kidd has done a good job getting the most of out players...when they actually get a chance.
Listen, we won this game and are still within easy striking distance of the 6th seed. But I really, really don't like Maxi's role when you just made a major trade for Gafford.
Watch the highlights and you can see how we NEED the shotblocking and rebounding. Lively was just insane on defense this game.

And dude, Luka is just redonk this season. I don't think there are 10 players in history more talented than him. Maybe not even 5.

Ageeed on both points. Jesus, Coming from a place where I wasnt sure about trading up for Luka to where I thinks he is going to be a top player to ever play the sport. Imo, he is on the Lebron, MJ pace and whoever else you put up in the clouds as beyond generational talent.
Maxi and Thj have been bouncing up against their ceiling for a few years. The only thing we can hope for is that they bust off a few outlier games when we really need it, all while hoping coaches dont try to over play their hands.
Kidd was a really good defender and he knoes what it takes to play solid team defense. We had a good run of defense when he was here. Our scheme was solid and we had guys that understood spacing and where to be. They knew how to sag, help and get back. They also clogged and mucked up PnRs pretty well. Maybe he just isnt good at slowing it down for the players to drill it. The fundamentals and scheme are definitely not imprinted on most of our players. Im convinced that other coaches could get more out of this team.

Agreed. I hope we need to just get rid of Maxi and THJ in the offseason to force Kidd's hand (since we probably can't hope to replace Kidd.) Replace TJH with Hardy and I think this might be one of the 4 best teams in the league.

I mean, just from a statistical standpoint, he has been doing things that have never been done before since the moment he first stepped on to the court. From his rookie season, the only people you can compare him to are Bird, Magic, Oscar, Lebron, even Jordan.
The dude has 4 all-nba first teams in his first 5 years. Thats the same number the Dirk, Garnett, and David Robinson had in their entire careers. Oh yeah, and he's even better this year and easily cruising to his fifth.

I don't get the Kleber hate. Could we maybe do better? Maybe? I'd never be opposed. We have a second-round pick this summer and no cap room.
Unless we get an upgrade, I like having the option of him. He's more mobile than Gafford and can (kinda) get out on shooting bigs. He can also hit the three occasionally and his ability to three destroyed the Jazz and Gobert.
At 32, he won't be around forever, but like Powell he's decent.

I don't hate him at all. I just think now that we have Gafford we have less of a need for him. I would like to see him play 10-15 minutes a game instead of 20-30.

I love healthy maxi, I just think his minutes should be around 18 in order to get the most out of him and keep him fresh. . I think the PJ/Maxi combo is for real on certain matchups and maxi is not shy in crunch time.

Really good hoop collective podcast episode. 30 minutes talking about Mavs Cavs and last half talking about refereeing and the state of modern basketball.
