I think i have to eat some crow...Randle is balling since january, damn. Of course he still have several black hole moments in each game.
But i guess he is on the shorter FA list if we dont pick Bagley/Porter/JJJ. Still think he is an undersized center playing bully ball and nothing else

WHAtever the off season plan is, Randle became harder to acquire. He’d be a great pnr guy with skill.

@BobbyMarks42: Yogi Ferrell of the Mavericks has now played 2,000 minutes and has met the starter criteria for free agency this summer. Ferrell will see his qualifying offer and cap hold increase from $1.7M to $2.9M. The guard will be a restricted FA.

Who would be the best player to draft that would play best next to this guy. Randle has been a beast lately. He’s looking like a guy that is going to reach his ceiling.
Bamba
Randle
Barnes
Wes
Dennis

Scratch brainfart Randle, im ready to throw 4/40 at Dante Exum and pair him with DSJ in the backcourt. And then im trying to get Orlando not to match a big contract for Gordon. Even if its probably easier go get Randle. But i think Rick doesnt like the spacing issues with Randle at the four. He plays pretty much like a Five because he has no range.
DSJ
Exum
Barnes
Gordon
Bamba
But for this scenario we need at least 30-32m cap space...

Problem with Exum has always been his health -- dude has only played 156/328 (49%) career games over four seasons.

Yes but he looked great at SL and he looks great now. ACL in 2015 and then a freak injury with his shoulder...it happens...
We have to give Rick a maximum of talent. Real talent he can work his magic with and not scrubs that just doesnt look so crappy under him...

You know earlier we were talking about center and who would be the target if we don't get one in the draft and if Capela is too expensive and the Noel bridge is burned. I think Dieng could be had for very cheap from minny. He's playing so little there and he's locked in for 3 more years. They probably want to extend Towns next year too so it makes sense to move him. We could just absorb him for some minor compensation or maybe Thibs wants someone like Wes. Wes seems like a Thibs guy and they don't seem to love Crawford. Being on a 1 year deal his salary comes off before the Towns extension would hit and they could probably resign him cheaper if it goes well. Doubt we are willing to part with Wes though but I still think Dieng could be had cheap.
Edit- in hindsight this could prolly be moved to another thread but the activity during these tank games is so low so I'm not sure it matters. UD can move this if need be. I'm not being lazy I swear...

Done.
I'd be down with Dieng, dude was putting up 10/8 and shooting 37% from beyond the arc before he got relegated to a backup role... Plus, I actually wanted the Mavs to draft him back in 2013, so we'd be making up for that missed opportunity.

I'm hoping for Doncic since Ayton isn't going to be available. Maybe a cpl teams pass on the white "unathletic" SG in the top 5

Doncic wont slide past #3. If the Kings draft ahead of us no way he gets past Divac. Hell, Divac probably takes him at #1

I doubt he does either. We should be able to hold off the Kings, we have one more loss and 2 less wins. The win the other night was stupid.

Yeah, Kings are playing now Suns and Grizzlies, they are going to have a hard time to outtank them in these games.
Nets-Bulls play two times in a row....

If we don't draft a center we should attempt to trade for Whiteside this offseason. I like him better than Capela. He's out of favor with the Heat, only 26, and still shows up well in advanced defensive stats despite having a bad (by his standards) season. Could be a good opportunity to buy low.

Whiteside is a headcase, no way it works with Rick. Rondo 2.0
No thanks.

Eddie Sefko: Prez and GM Donnie Nelson on Mavs needing more weapons: “Getting Rick (Carlisle) ammunition is our No. 1 priority in the offseason. We’ve got a great opportunity in the draft. And free agency, we’ll be extremely active. It was an extremely difficult year for the head coach.”

I keep hearing local radio talk about how it will be years before the Mavs are any good. That's not necessarily how the NBA works. Teams can obviously change quickly just hitting 1 home run in the draft.. can completely rebuild a team quickly. The Mavs could have a winning record next year with a home run in the draft to go along with DSJ's development and a little assistance via free agency..

Denver is 46-36 and out of the Western playoffs. Legit tanking is expected to be much less prevalent with the new draft odds starting next year. I can see the Mavs improving quite a bit just from our insane number of close game losses and player improvement, but even having a winning record in the West would be a dramatic change. Becoming a .500 team means winning 17 more games than this year.

You're absolutely right. I don't think the Mavs will be competing for a title in the next few seasons..but they can be right back in the thick of the playoff hunt next year. Once you have a couple of young guys establishing themselves, you become a much more likely place for a free agent to land. Dallas is primed to turn it around quickly in my opinion IF they hit a home run this year. I don't believe the Mavs were anywhere near as bad as their record indicated this season.
Their expected W/L based off of points would put them at 33-49 for the season... And realistically, much of that has to do with not necessarily rolling with your best players down the stretch of games. The Mavs were abysmal in close games this season. I don't think this Mavs team was good this season by any stretch.. just don't think they were anywhere near as bad as the record indicated..which is great for draft purposes.

It's a pipe dream at this point but damn Clint Capela looks good. He thoroughly outplayed KAT today.

Interesting name to keep an eye on -- Alex Len. If the Suns get the #1 pick and select Ayton that will make Len expendable. While he sucks on offense, he has quietly become one of the better defensive bigs in the league. I wouldn't give him the max, but I'd offer 10 million a year.

I think that is partially Minnesota's fault, but also not KAT for demanding the ball. Houston always switches pick and rolls. When KAT gets a small on him he needs to plant himself in the post and demand the ball. Easy bucket everytime.

Do whatever you can to clear enough cap space to throw a max offer at Clint Capela. That's my new thing.

We already have enough cap space to offer a max contract this summer.

Wasted time, Capela is a RFA and Morey was never closer to a ring that would complete his douchebag kingdom.
He is not letting Capela walk, specially not to Cuban, even with a max offer that may is a slighty overpay of a few millions each year. The new Rockets owner is also not cheap like Alexander. They are keeping Paul, Harden and Capela at any costs.

Then there's the whole waiting 3 days while every other FA signs and then we lose Capela when he's matched. Leaving us with signing Greg Monroe or some other "bargain" that every other team has no interest in. Then RC has to once again make chicken salad out of chicken shit.

To be fair what FA worth pursuing isn’t an RFA? Demarcus Cousins (vomit)? Paul George? Brook Lopez? Avery Bradley? I mean I’m all for trying to lure Paul George, but I think we all know he’s going to the Lakers.
Aaron Gordon, Julius Randle, Marcus Smart, and Jabari Parker are our most realistic targets and they’re all RFAs. I’m not really intrigued by any of those guys. Let’s say the Rockets lose in the WCF badly to the Warriors, do they aggressively seek to resign Capela knowing they have to reup Chris Paul and attract PG13, Lebron, or Carmelo?

If they lost Capela though who would replace him out there on the open market with their cap situation? It's like when the Cavs gave the ridiculous amount to TT, they have no other option unless they want to get worse as a basketball team.

Would love to see us draft Mo Bamba and swing a trade for Kyle Kuzma by absorbing Luol Deng for the Lakers. IMO something like this makes a lot more sense than paying max for Gordon or Randle.

Why would anyone want Melo? He has hit the wall harder than any player I recall

dont think the Lakers give Kuzma away just to trade Deng. They could stretch him also over several years...

Out of everyone on that roster.....I think Brandon Ingram is the safest but Kuzma might be 2nd. He's too cheap and he can do it all. If they are trying to sell Lebron or however to the Lakers.....they have to have Kuzma on that team.

You gotta take off those blue tinted glasses if you think 1. Mavs have higher than 0% chance at Capela and 2. Taking one of the lakers best performers of the season just by abosrbing Deng.

I could see the Rockets using Capela for a S'n'T if they have a shot at LeBron. Otherwise, why wouldnt they just match?
