I'm betting that Rick agrees with me. Roddy has only two turnovers in the past four games and has played 21 mpg or more in each. A nice bounce back from his three game lull of 15, 0, and 16 in the three games before that. In fact, a 4 to 1 assist to turnover ratio in the last five is imo as good as we've see from the youngling ball handling wise.

Carlisle definitely distributed minutes well for a team that is about to hit a tough stretch on the schedule. Nobody logged 30 minutes, and there were spurts of really nice ball movement. Roddy was very good on the defensive end, and I liked his aggressiveness in spots. Wright was fantastic. The TO's were maddening.

dude being dude, griping about Booby last night...he wasn't a world-beater or anything, but he played fine. Solid defense, took care of the ball, got into the lane even though he missed some chippies, and had some stretches where he played a very solid floor game at the point. I don't understand this notion that everything should function like it does with Kidd when Kidd's not in there. Booby's game is nothing like Kidd's, and it's a waste of time and talent to try to get him to play like Kidd.
I'm starting to get the impression that some (maybe just one?) of you have been watching Jason run the team for so long now that you've sort of forgotten what an incredibly unique player he is. Think back to his first partial year in Dallas. People had been pining for a true point guard for a while by that point, but the fact of the matter is that Avery had almost no idea what to do with him when he got him, and a lot of fans and media members were convinced he was past the point of being an impact player based on those early returns. It took a new coach and a completely new system to really take advantage of his talents. And now all of a sudden you think that system is going to continue to be effective when Kidd's on the bench and somebody else is running the show? Even last year, in which we witnessed the best backup point guard play of the Kidd/Dirk era, the success that Dallas ended up enjoying with JJB running the show depended on the team embracing and exploiting the fact that JJB - who, by the way, benefited tremendously from years of trust on his way toward developing into a rotation-caliber point guard - is nothing at all like Kidd.

I don't want him to be jkiddo...but a lot closer to jjb with his decision making would be very, very nice.

But Roddy isn't JJB either. Roddy needs to do what Roddy does best to help benefit the team. Plus, JJB took three + seasons to really be effective as the primary back-up. Roddy has only played a little over a season and a half worth of games up to this point. Patience is a worthy virtue because his contract is so reasonable. He is slowly but surely reaching that median point between being flashy and not making mistakes. I just sincerely can't believe that Dude is ragging on something that is actually progress in my eyes. C'est la vie.

Even though I don't agree with everything - very good point made in this post.

See that's where I don't get why we need that stretch 4 to maintain the system. Roddy is a straight up scorer that is at his best when getting into the paint, he's the most dangerous when attacking to finish or dime off for a dunk. It's a different look we can offer. Polar opposite from Kidd. What's wrong with having a back to the basket guy behind Dirk. Kidd and Jet can spot up from the stripe.

After dribbling around for 5 plus seconds almost every trip. I didn't have a problem with him finally getting to the lane or his defense.
However, he continues to bog down the offense IMO as he dribbles about, dribbles about, dribbles about.

Surely you're not suggesting that Brandan is a back-to-the-basket guy?

Pre 2011 Barea says hi
Another reason why i wanna have Deron. We dont need to force Roddy into the PG role anymore. He is better as offguard and with 6-3 Deron is able to defend SG

No, but to rule him out of the 4 spot just because he doesn't fit the 4 spot in RC's system, is ridiculous. I mean if you can run Roddy at the one, you have to take advantage of his skill set, not just force him into the Kidd role. Just like Wright, play him in the 4 role behind Dirk, but you're not going to run him around the perimeter.

It'd be nice to have 2 guards that can shoot the 3 or break down a defense while finishing at the cup or diming it off.

You're missing a critical distinction here. While the Odom experiment was ongoing Dallas had four perimeter players at the PF spot not counting Marion, but at no time has Dallas had a second point guard who was capable playing anything at all like Jason Kidd. If they'd had someone who could, I promise you he would've been in the rotation. Changing their style of play when Kidd goes to the bench is and has been a necessity. Maintaining some semblance of their style of play when Dirk goes to the bench had (IMO) been viewed as a luxury, one that was seen as being all the more valuable given the practice time shortage, and one that was expected to pay off in the long run with Dirk and Lamar slated to get all the PF minutes in the playoffs.
At any rate, Wright hasn't been ruled out for PF minutes. He's just been lower down the totem pole. Now, though, with Odom gone, Marion's probably the favorite to get the important backup PF minutes as long as Vince can contribute at SF, the argument in favor of Yi over Brandan solely on the basis of Yi's ability to pick and pop has lost some of its weight, and Rick's seems to be taking a fairly deliberate look at how things can work with Brandan at the 4. Be happy.
