Christian Wood signed on to do SL with us? I missed that, he has some talent at least although it hasn't translated yet. 20/10 in d league, blows Hammons away.

Orlando is more to develop coaches and staff than it is about developing players. The Orlando league rarely has a single guy worth watching. This is no exception.
Vegas on the other hand, will have players we may actually start this season.
If Vegas has our B (and this year A guys), Orlando has C-F guys

Hornsby, Ashley, and Warney were all on summer league teams for us last year. I think Ashley even made the training camp roster.

Tomorrow summer league starts
Actually kinda interested in seeing Motley. Not much else to watch for until Vegas, though.

I'm so mixed.
I really want a Tractor Traylor level bust story here with #9
I also want to see the kid. He's obviously young but has a lot of potential

Buycks was player of the game... Looked pretty decent out there, maybe he lands on the Legends?

The $5 for summer league pass will be worth it if I see:
1 lob from Smith to Hammons
1 kick out to Brussino for three
Also excited to see some Yogi and DFS

Ding Yanyuhang seems to be a little crafty and his game is similar to Brussino's.
Seems to have good handles and likes to drive.
Could be kind of fun watching him this summer.

Between Ding and Satnam, you're talking about almost 2.5 billion potential jersey sales...

What is up with our "second round draft pick" Motley? He looks like a scrub out there, although I know spacing/ timing/ everything is off in Summer League.
On the other hand I was really impressed by Christian Wood. He's only 21 and has a nice all-around game. He reminds me of Jerami Grant.
Buycks looks good though, but he's already 28. I could see him catching on in the league though.
Edit: I really think Wood ends up on an NBA roster and I hope it's ours. He's young, athletic, and can handle and shoot well for someone his size. I think if he works on extending his range and gaining strength he's a rotation player sooner rather than later.

Wood does look impressive but my concern is that he is another skinny big who will get bullied in the paint and will struggle to rebound against the NBA elite.
The one thing this team lacks is a bruiser and solid rebounder in our rotation....a skillset that isn't very conducive to RC's system. With Barnes/Dirk/Noel/Mejri as our primary frontcourt I see us getting clobbered on the boards against many teams again next season.

Paul, Ding, and Motley all look good. Paul and Ding look really good.
I'm pleasantly surprised at how well Ding is playing and how agressive he is.
Paul is just killing anyone guarding him and he's a scrappy defender too. If they snug up on him, he goes around..if they give him space he drains a 3.

We are pretty dominant. That defense is amazing
Championship game it is.
Saturday LV summer league starts. So excited to see Smith, Yogi, DFS, Brussino, and maybe even Hammons

That defense could give our regular roster a hard time lol.
Someone made a Ding Brussino comparison.... NOT the case. Ding is uncomparably mroe agressive in all aspects. He's not the deadly 3pt shooter but he's got better handles and drives harder. He works way harder on defense and can make high level passes.

Problem with Ding according to the SL announcer is that between endorsements and his contract in china he makes 8m a year. So he's not going to come play here for the minimum.

Yea, I heard him say that about 20 times too. Depending on what his endorsements are, he may not have to lose some of them. It's not like he makes 8m from just his player contract. The reason he is over here is to try and lock up a spot on a roster, so I'm positive he and his camp realize that he can't stroll into the NBA and draw that kind of salary.

He could also be here just for the exposure, experience, and to gauge where he is in comparison to the fringe NBA players. It would depend on what those endorsements are yeah but I still don't see a guy who is the MVP of his league and probably quite popular going from that to 13-15th on the roster getting dnp'd while making the minimum.

@EricPincus
I hear guard Brandon Paul, 26-year old who recently played in Turkey (and from Illinois) is close to landing an NBA deal . . .
|
Good for him. He's an undersized SG, but one of several guys who stood out on the Mavs SL team in Orlando. Shoots well both off the dribble and spotting up, moves well, ball doesn't stick with him, good defender and did I mention he's a really good shooter?
Warney reminds me a lot of DeJuan Blair.
Luis Montero looked really good tonight. No apparent weaknesses and another good G defender.
Christian Wood didn't play tonight (already in Vegas for Phoenix?), but he showed a lot to be intrigued about in his three games. I wonder if he wouldn't be a better option than the German kid for a 2-way, if that's what they're planning.
In a postgame interview it sounded like his motor was a point of criticism during his NBA years, but that sure as hell wasn't a problem here. His defense seemed erratic at points though and I'm not sure if the one hit three from him I remember was just an aberration.
Ding impressed with his effort level and ability to get to the rim.
Buycks also looks good enough for a roster spot somewhere.
edit: Oh, Motley played more than we've grown accustomed to today and looked all right. Good defense, high effort level, but not much working on offense
Games are here, btw: https://livestream.com/accounts/3821458/events/4190278

I also wouldn't compare the two of them, but mostly because Ding seemed so much bigger. Am I wrong on that? Isn't he more of a PF whereas Nico plays a tweener role?
Also, aren't passing and courtvision hallmarks of Brussino's game? I'd give him the edge there, despite some nice passes by Ding.

I've seen mostly highlights of Ding so you might be right but Brussino has great handles and is a great passer. Brussino is listed at 6'7 but is closer to 6'9 but I agree ding is a better finisher. My point is mainly they are interchangable.

Yea, the thing that jumps out at me is his agressiveness. Brussinon has good handles but Ding seems to have equal or better but is way more agressive with his dribble. He's also more of a hard nosed defender too. He is definitely fun to watch, he makes good things happen even if he's not filling up the stat sheet.
