DB.com Reports All Night From Mavs HQ
By Mike Fisher -- DB.com
TRADE 'TRIGGER POINTS' SET UP
The Mavs have “set up trigger points’’ that could allow them to move as high as the middle of the first round of tonight’s NBA Draft “if certain things fall into place,’’ team GM Donnie Nelson says.
Nelson opened a 5:40 p.m. pre-Draft meeting with the media at the AAC by selling the idea of being “prepared to pick at 51.’’ He talked of the depth from the “international scene’’ and of maybe taking “a U.S. citizen.’’ But when pushed, he conceded that the club still hopes to buy or acquire a first-rounder depending on the availability of the right player.
Nelson said some teams are “trying to punt their picks’’ in the mid-and-late first round of a draft that has featured a “very, very active last 48 hours.’’ Dallas’ cost to do – as is conventionally done for a late-first-rounder – is $3 million. Nelson said the Mavs don’t want to buy a pick before knowing what player might be available in the slot.
And what about moving into the top 10, as DallasBasketball.com has reported the Mavs have attempted to do? Nelson said that “becomes more difficult’’ as the actual selection process draws nearer.
So the present mindset? Dallas crosses its fingers that just the right player is available at just the right spot owned by just the right seller-minded team.

Don't you love how this Lebron thiing boils down to NY or Brooklyn....what about Cleveland, it's home after all.
Just to get things simmering, who would we take with the #5 if the trade does go down? Assuming Love is not on the board, we'd be looking at Mayo, Gordon, Gallinari, Alexander, Lopez, Westbrook, Bayliss,

Lebron has taken the city of Cleveland as far as it can go--now, he's ready to move to the big time now =]
IMO, Mayo then Alexander then Bayliss for this team.

If Mayo is on the board, I'd look at him...Alexander, Lopez.
Home can't lead to the franchise/mogul Lebron is trying to make himself in to.

Ah...we were close!
But the first two matter the most
Don't tease me to think Josh and filler could turn into Miller, Mayo and at worst Cardinal.
sigh...

Wow. Kevin Love really did drop some pounds. He looks way skinnier.

Who's going to deal for Westbrook? especially at 4? wtf was that... Is he from Oklahoma City or something? What a weird pick... and why was Durant so happy?

I think he was vastly overrated in college, and living in LA--the overrating was at obscene levels. With that being said, he has great footwork and has a jumper--being a big guy, he'll be a decent pro. I predict 16/8 for his career. If Kwame can score 10 in a season... it's not too farfetched to say that K-Love can get 16+ IMHO.

Durant was happy, so I guess SEA is happy. Watson or Ridnour (I'm guessing Ridnour) will be on the way out.
I think Love will be a durable/consistent big man in the league. He won't be a star or a stud, but you know what you'll get from him night in and night out.
I hope the "pieces" are falling into place for Dallas and trading into the 1st.

I don't think they see Thorton as a 2 or Gordon as a point.
I think if they ship Maggette out, they want a PG in return.
They have their SG and SF issues taken care of, just take care of Brand and get a PG and they have a pretty good young squad.

So are you suggesting Thornton is a 3? and Gordon is a 2?
If they are going with the youth movement, I don't see Brand wanting to stay IMHO.

Alexander had been their target for a while, so that makes me a little more confused thinking about the trade with RJ. I guess they'll bring Alexander along as a bench guy.
And I think Lopez can calm down, I'd be surprised if he didn't get picked up by CHA.

Joe Alexander owns but not sure why they drafted him if they traded for RJ. Same exact player...

From what I read on boards they're ready to give Thorton the minutes that went to Maggette at the 3, that he's a better fit at the 3 vs the 2.
Gordon, might end up being a combo guard, but they are needing ANYTHING from the guard position.
If they trade Maggette, a guard has to come back in some form or fashion and I guess Gordon can play the off position of that player.

I am more confident in the belief of Thorton at the 3. I guess it's up to them on what they see Gordon as. But, I know he's known as a shooter, so I put 2 and 2 together.

If Charlotte wasn't so heavy on swing players Felton for Maggette would be good. But who knows what CHA is doing right now.
Lopez and NJ will work, they needed a big, I thought the Bobcats did as well, but whoops.
I bet they get a lot of calls for Felton now.

There are two people I want out of the first round that I thought were realistic and one of them is almost getting close to potentially being taken. Please don't go yet Brandon Rush.

He was the one to deal, so it might be even less than they wanted for him, but who knows.
PGs seem readily available in trades now. SEA, INDY and maybe CHA have some potentially there.
