Jason Cole and Jason Parks both said the first inning featured a mechanical issue from Darvish. He wasn't "finishing his delivery," whatever that means, but it sounds like it'd result in a lack of command of the fastball, which was pretty much his problem. He got it sorted out and was, of course, a lot better after the first. Thankfully, it was against the Mariners.
He gave up 7 runs in his first start in the NPB last year and never gave up more than 3 after that.

Looks like Kinsler's 3 run HR tonight was the final step to a contract extension. 6 more years!

To Maringa/Sike...
Kid was pitching the first time ever in this new environment with a huge crowd and a ton of expectations. He was nervous despite him saying otherwise after he game. To suggest he will be a huge fail at that point in his 1st outing is just not fair. And battling back after a really tough 1st inning isn't embarrassing. Dude almost went 6 innings after a 40+ pitch 1st and he retired 10+ at a point after such an "embarrassing" start.
Hell, even that 1st inning could have gone very different if not for a couple of really weak singles. The walks kill you obviously, but he had some bad luck too.

MLB.com tv blocks out local games, and all national games. So it kind of sucks for a rangers fan who lives in north texas.

While it isn't like the Darvish debut, I'm looking forward to Feliz's debut as a starter tonight.

The Mariners are hitting a robust .000/.094/.000 against Feliz for his career, 0-48 with 4 walks and 21 Ks. That's almost two combined no-hitters. It's a shame that'll probably come to an end tonight, but let's hope not!

The biggest thing I'm worried about is his stamina. Idk what his exact numbers were, but I seem to remember Feliz not doing too well in games where he was pitching for the third straight day. And that's just three innings in three days. That's hopefully only at most half of what he'll do tonight alone. I don't want to see him get to the 3rd inning and then start to fall apart.

Hello win column. Only the 6th 1-0 win in the ballpark's history. Not something you see very often.

Feliz never went over 100 and threw so many off speed pitches. I was impressed. He really worked on his game this offseason. It's like a 180 of the old Feliz (nothing but heat).

That game really should have been put in the WIN column.

Yup can't complain about that. I really hope Nathan finds his groove. He costs too much money to stash on the bench.. Overall I think the pitching staff is top notch. When Feliz/Yu are the biggest question mark pitchers on a team, that's downright nutty. Once the bullpen gets settled down everything should be golden.
Oh yeah, Napoli needs to come out of whatever funk he's in. Maybe put on some weight. He looks nearly identical to Moreland for chrissakes.

In general the offense needs to produce more, but yeah, we are fielding a damn good team out there.
You think for a moment and if Napoli gets it done with the bases loaded and a 3-0 count in the first loss, maybe Nathan performs differently coming in a save situation. Then of course the 2nd loss has to be a win literally almost every single time. A run allowed by Ogando in the 8th and 3 by Nathan in the 9th is just not good enough - especially when Seattle scored only 1 run prior in 7 full innings.
Oh well. We are 5-2 and could easily be 7-0. We could also be 4-3 if Feliz didn't pitch so studly (in the game we only scored 1 run). I know I will gladly take this winning percentage over the rest of the season, but obviously the opponents get much harder than Chicago/Seattle...
Bats do need to get going though... Thank God for Kinsler/Young (might just have to consider keeping Young in that 2nd spot) last night. Without them, we chalk up another loss.
GO RANGERS!

IMO- I agree Young needs to stay in the #2 slot --- at least for now.

Five years ago we would be declaring Matt Harrison the next Cy Young winner, and now he's probably the worst starter on the staff. Times are good.
I hate that Minnesota stadium, though. Where good offense goes to die. And that camera angle is just awful.

Man, Darvish and now Nathan getting into trouble all game and the Twins couldn't get a clutch hit. So many left on base. But I'll take it. Darvish was better, but his next start is @ Detroit. He will need his best stuff to keep that from getting ugly.

I think right now Darvish is our worst starter. This is a good problem to have. I don't think Darvish is Cy Young material, but he has a great upside. With Ryan and the Maddux brothers around, I'm confident the Rangers can (at the very least) turn him into a solid 15-game winner. With our offensive firepower, that is really all we need. Napoli and Cruz haven't really shown up yet. Once they get in rhythm, look out.

We all know it won't look like this forever, but man, that looks nice. The Angels thought themselves the best team of all time.

Well, the Rangers swept the series at Target Field, one of their houses of horrors. They've now won 4 of 5 at Fenway Park, but now we go to maybe their biggest HoH, Comerica.
Darvish v some-dude-named-Wilk-who-is-a-nobody-lefty-and-who-will-probably-throw-seven-shutout-because-that's-what-nobody-lefties-do-against-us tomorrow.

Rangers scored 8 runs in the first against the Tigers and there wasn't a single visit to Porcello on the mound by the pitching coach or manager. And he started the 2nd and proceeded to continue to get knocked around before finally getting pulled. LOL
