Fixed that up a little bit for you since he wasn't doing us much good midway through the season when Carlisle had him glued to the bench. That being said, I'm in full agreement with the essence of your comment.

Yeah, not sure what the afternoon Saturday game was all about - it wasn't even nationally televised. But you missed a good one!

Against the Jazz it could have even been more. IIRC he entered the game around 10:00 min and left at 0:30. And when Utah was fouling intentionally once Kidd gave the ball to Terry instead to Dirk (who was open as well). Could have been 31+ easily

This statement should get him fired. Seriously.
You gotta be sane as a coach.

I don't understand about people freaking out about Carlisle complimenting Mayo's game. Seems like nothing more than the classic coaching style of kicking them when they're up and encouraging them when they're down.

Also, totally on board with demanding that Wright get the regular playing time that he's getting lately.
Not on board with complaining about him not getting more minutes when he's in the 20+ range. He's a role player that can easily be overexposed, especially when his strengths and weaknesses (in broad contexts) so closely match those of his most common front court partner.

Yes it is OK to encourage OJ, but not at the cost of Dirk's epic performance. That's a bit too much.
Taking your superstar for granted should have its limits.

Dirk gives a shit if the coach praises him after such games....RC was right to try to take the fire away from Mayo

Dirk is so, so, SO far beyond needing the validation of his coach after a performance like that. He couldn't care less.

Since the ASG Dirk is shooting 53/48/94 and averaging 19.9/8.3/2.3 in 32.6 mpg (21.98/9.1/2.5 per 36).

I don't care about the comments but I'd like to see less minutes for Mayo if he's really that injured, like Carlisle indicated he was after the game. Playing him more than anyone else on the team doesn't seem smart when he has a dislocated shoulder and started the game 0-11.

If people are shocked that Carlisle praised Mayo, they haven't paid attention to Rick Carlisle.

That game gave me flashbacks to 2011.
Not only did Dirk look like 2011 Playoffs Dirk, but in the 2nd half, there was one play where Collison had the ball on the right baseline, pumpfaked the defender into the air, then while trying to draw the foul, threw up a wild shot that went in. That shot immediately reminded me of the shot Dirk hit in the 2011 playoffs in OKC during the epic comeback game, except Dirk was on the left baseline in that game. That shot by Collison must have been a sign! lol

Dirk hit game winner a year ago 30.03.2012 against Orlando and the game ended with the same result 100:98.

You're looking too much into the quotes. He said he was impressed with his performance, and then went on to say it was the toughness, playing through injury, defensive things. Obviously Carlisle isn't boasting about his 1-13 shooting performance.
I think Mayo has shown he has the will to win, through his work ethic and play. This is just an instance where Carlisle felt the need to instill some confidence in Mayo. That is all.
I do, however, agree with your sentiment. I just don't think Mayo is that kind of player, he wants it bad.

I love how Mike James got after Robinson in the final minutes. He and Marion trapping and scrambling made it all possible. Never give up attitude by the Mavs.

In all of his years here, Dirk Nowitzki had never made a go-ahead, game-winning 3 with Dallas down in the final 10 seconds of a regular-season game until the afternoon bomb he dropped on Chicago.

Almost every maverick to a man commented on mayos grittiness.

Yes, i know all that. But i mean what's the point in trying to spin it as if it were Dirk's 1st clutch 3. He made ton of them during his career.
I mean you can write the same weird stuff about MJ, Kobe and co. "1st go ahead reg. season game-winning 3 in Kobe's career with 2.9 sec to go" or something like that. Totally unnecessary. Esp. if you are Mark Stein.
