Best part about this thread are the tags. Hilarious.

The OP is right. Everybody knows Kaman, Collison and Mayo are here as stop-gap measures to pass the season until the next round of FA. Their contracts were more appealing than their performance. Writing is on the wall.
Specifically, these aren't the players the Mavs FO wanted, they are contract flexibility the MBT got after things didn't work out.

Kidd/Collison would've been nice though.

I'm sick of old guys that can't move. I'd rather have Dojo with his potential getting those minutes.

Dojo isn't going to be in the league past this year if he can't suddenly develop a jumpshot. Roddy>Kidd>Dojo.

There have been plenty of effective point guards play in this league who couldn't make a jumpshot. DoJo can be a solid 1/2 backup if he attacks the rim, distributes, plays defense, and rebounds.

The list of successful NBA guards that can't hit ANY jump shot is pretty small. I give him more of a chance than I did during our last argument about it, and I do really like his defense, but he could really help himself by developing at least a 15 footer.

I don't know whether he will or won't, but to me, there's no compelling reason why he shouldn't be able to develop a jumpshot. He has a great coaching staff and endless resources. If the effort is there, there's no real excuse for him not becoming a serviceable jumpshooter. If he doesn't...that's his problem.

Yep...and its allready 2.5 years.
The day after they drafted him they told him that he has to improve his jumpshot and 2.5 years later there is still basically nothing.

So if he picks up skills he doesn't currently have he can be a backup? Ok. And he already attacks the rim, he just can't finish.

I'm confused what you mean by, there is still basically nothing? The last cpl games he is a much better player, and starting to look like he can provide some rest for Collison and fill in when needed. Coach even said last game that he was a huge factor in the win. He needs to continue to build his confidence by attacking the way he has and things will continue their upward trend. He can do the things we saw in the preseason in the NBA.

Unfortunately you see this a lot with unknown players, small playing time and poor defenses. If say for example he is the collison backup. Teams get tape on him, pay attention to him and never let him drive again. They just dare him to shoot it and pack the paint.
I'm not sure there is a substitute for hitting a wide open jump shot when you are 6'x" wing player.

In theory that can sometimes work. But you can't "pack the paint" with the 3 sec rule. Also, they can run pick n roll to get things moving. There are several ways around him not being a good shooter and teams saggin down.

I'm not talking about packing the paint with everyone, just his defender. And a pnr doesn't work because everyone will just go under it.
If he were a dynamic finisher, maybe, but he's not that either. Even Lebron, diva can't make it work without a credible jumpshot.

Yeah....doesn't really matter for me. All that garbage he was spitting out during the lockout was the icing on the cake of his career of stabbing everyone but the Lakers in the back. He's like Lamar Odom. LA does something to these guy's heads to where they refuse to play well anywhere else.
Back to the lockout, dude said a lot of garbage that really got under my skin. I realize he represented the players and was just doing his job, but there are a lot of low end players who don't make much after taxes and had to scrape by while multi-millionaire Derek Fisher was fighting over 2%.

That 2% matters to all of the guys who were "struggling to get by". Please, they can get a loan for the summer with the salaries they make.
