Collison and Jones is better than nothing. Short term contracts. We have 3 new very usable loaners at the least.

Both players are on twitter, if anyone is interested. They haven't tweeted anything yet though.

Signing Free Agents? Not really the MBT's wheelhouse.
Making Trades that radically shake things up? All day long, baby.
I love DC's game and he is exactly what the front office needed to be targeting: Young guys with high potential to improve.

This is definitely true, but they don't provide much offensive threat at all. Dirk, Kaman and Collison should cover the gap tho.

Collison is more than "better than nothing". That dude can ball. But what I really like about him is his youth, price tag, and his ceiling to improve.

yeah most definitely, and if Cunningham and James can be factors on D like they were in college we are pretty much set on that side of the court. Still feel like we need more scoring punch though.

It will definitely be an upgrade from Kidd! 2.3 on the final year, if he kills it and has a great year, he's gone.

Great point about the Kidd upgrade. DC is a waterbug that will drive larger PGs crazy and actually get into the lane and finish (A flashing memory of Jason Kidd passing up 100 wide open lay ups to a man at the three point line just gave me a headache!)

Any news on Mayo or possibly Lee? They can be good starting SG with decent offense. Also how about Ramon? Does the mavs still have interest on him?

DC's addition must end any Sessions talk, right?

The biggest change will be how much easier life will be for our bigs defensively when opposing guards don't penetrate at will

I'd think so. Dallas' biggest need now is clearly front-court depth.

Sign Elton and a backup C. We still need a 6 man and a scoring 2.

So, are Dallas and Indiana going to wait until after the wait on Brand is over to actually execute this trade? Because if this trade is done before the amnesty clock is up, Dallas won't be able to make a very aggressive bid on Elton. Or am I missing something?

The thing with Elton is i prefer Kaman over him. He is more of a PF in my book anyways. We'll see what RC do with his new toys.

That's in the neighborhood of what I was thinking they'd have. But does that constitute a very aggressive bid?

So, would that effectively make Brand the last acquisition of the off season?

I think so. My guess before we had done any of these moves was that the Mavs would "aggressively" bid around $5M.

I guess my linguistic barometer's off, then. I was thinking $5M as a strong bid, and reserving "very aggressive" for something north of $8M. Either way, I'll be damn happy if the Mavs get Elton.

I could see that as very aggressive, too. It's not like the terms are precise, as you say.
Bottom line, I think 5.9M should probably--but not certainly--be enough to get it done. Maybe 65% odds, just blindly guessing. We'll see.

Oh, yeah, I think so. I'd be absolutely shocked if 5Mil+ didn't get it done.
And yes, for others that have asked, I think the Mavs spend the rest of their cap space on Brand, spend their Room Exception on Delonte, sign at least of one of their 2nd rounders, and find a bargain or two.

Hopefully Haywood's addition to the amnesty market dilutes the pool of competitors a bit.

Collison is a great pick up. He will benefit immensely from being able to pick and roll with Dirk similar to the offense he was responsible for when he broke out in New Orleans. Plus he is a very good and underrated shooter. He can actually hit mid ranged shots.

This is what I'm talking about. I hope we go super hard for him.
We will be old but we will be big. Dirk/Kaman/Brand/Wright is a solid 4-5 bunch and will have us as one of the biggest teams in the league, maybe just shy of the Lakers in the West, which is good playoff ball. Just gotta hope Kaman stays healthy and one of them is good with a backup/6th man role. Kaman/Brand (if both are healthy) is as good as a center combo as Tyson/Haywood IMO.
As for the trade, DC is a good young PG but is a pretty low-end starter. Don't know much about Jones. Overall, you can't complain since you were going to lose Ian anyway. The flexibility makes it an even bigger win.
The offseason grade has moved from F- to C-. If they land Brand, I move it to C++. A would've been getting Deron Williams.
