Rudy should have been in the Finals. The whole thing sucked big time. I can't believe how pitiful it truly was...

And a 6'6" guy with a 40"+ vertical a la Chapman could do it. Not that guys just attempt it regularly.

Chapman was not 6'6". He was more like 6'3"-4".

So Lebron says he's going to be in the dunk contest next year that will be in....Dallas.
That could be cool.

come on man... Those finals were entertaining, even if Dwight's last dunk sucked.
Besides, Nate dunking over Rudy isn't nearly as exciting.

LeBron isn't an impressive dunker. But the buildup for the event would be phenomenal.

And if Stern was smart he would get Dirk in the 3 point contest next year so that the home crowd can cheer him on... granted Dirk's 3 point attempts and percentage varies and isn't always a league leader in either... but it is about marketing.

That's only if he gets to step on Nate's back for the dunk... scratch that.. he steps on Dwight's back.

Yeah he should get Dirk in there. It would be awesome if Green could get into the Dunk Contest...assuming he's still on Dallas next year.

If he thought that way, Nash would have been in it this year.

Yep, F41. It seems like the only thing Stern markets is his "Golden Ticket"... the Wade/LeBron duo.

You guys realize players aren't forced to do those things, right? Nash really sucked it up in the last two three point contests. He probably wanted to take a vacation during the All Star break for the first time in several years.

That's true. But can you imagine Bird turning it down? Hell, I bet if you asked Bird now to go out there and shoot in the contest, he would ask who was coming in second.
The 3 point contest is all about percentage + attempts. That is how idiots like Antoine Walker and Quentin Richardson get in the contest. It has been that way for the last 10 years or so.

I'm sure if Dirk is asked next year he will do it. And I'm sure if Nash had been an All Star this year he would have done it.
But he probably had plans. Understandable.

I agree it is understandable. But Stern's lack of star power in the contests is mind blowing. And if Nash tuns it down why not ask Barbosa? He was already here doing the Skills anyway. Give the home fans someone to cheer for... and no that stupid "trifecta" crap they show aint it. As if I want to see a fat Bill Lambeer hoist up half court shots...

Very disappointing dunk contest. Howard seemed absolutely out of ideas. The way he mailed in that last dunk attempt was enough, for me, for him to not to ever get asked back.
That was absolutely pitiful.

Rudy got robbed. Not saying he would have won or moved on but the scores he got were obviously biased. The thing should be 3 rounds and take the total from all 4 dunkers as a whole. There should also be a rule that you can not attempt a failed dunk more than 3 times too. What a beating.
The Howard superman bit with the house music and extra elaborate props makes it very hard to believe that it's completely genuine. Kinda entertaining overall but I think it could be better.

If Lebron competes next year I would look for a few more stars to enter possibly, as to not be out done..

The skills competition and 3 point shootout fell flat for me. Everyone knows you have to get into a flow to really get going in the shootout and it seemed like no one really had it going big time tonight. They all did fairly well in the middle rack, but nothing overly impressive.
I enjoyed the dunk contest. The build to Dwight's dunk with the phone booth and everything was a nice touch. That dunk on the taller backboard was nice, but seemed way too easy for him. The "Kryptonite" stuff was pretty cool too. Nate's jump over Dwight was really impressive.

Count me as another vote for "Rudy got screwed." I thought both of his two dunks were more impressive than just about any other dunk on the night, save for Nate's leap over Dwight.

Another Rudy fan here. The judges definitely screwed him over. Before it started it was already going to be Dwight v Nate in the finals. Some of Nate Rob's dunks were just repeats of two years ago. At least he didn't need 20 tries to get it into the rim this time.
edit: And what are you guys talking about? All of the Air Jordan commercials are great.
Like for the XX3, become Legendary
The XX1 when there were all the little kids on the play ground imitating his moves...If you look at all his commercials they were all great quality from today and yesteryear.

C'mon, Rudy used up his entire allotted time for his second dunk. He missed it eight times before making it. It was a really nice dunk, but you have to get deducted for that.
Dunking on a 12 foot rim was the most impressive dunk of the night.

It was not 12 feet high. The only player to ever dunk on a 12' rim has been Michael Wilson, a former Globetrotter.
Here's the video of it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNhE0eJe5KI&NR=1
But Dwight was not at 12 feet. I'm not exactly sure how much lower but it definitely was lower. And in the 11 feet range it just isn't that impressive. There was a rumor that Clyde the Glyde dunked on an 11' 5" rim back in 89.
Oh and Rudy got robbed. Big time.

You really don't have to get deducted for that. Nate didn't get deducted when he took 8+ attempts last year (or was it two years ago?). Plus, they instituted the 2-minute time limit precisely to alleviate that situation where a guy just goes over and over and over and then finally ends up with a 49 or a 50, so there's no reason to deduct points on top of that.

Dwight's dunk that he bounced off the side of the backboard was by far the best dunk of the evening. Too bad his first round was better than his second, though.

ROFL @ Shaq's extended dance number with the Jabbawockeez. I love the guy.

Yeah, and Devin did the same thing to boot. Devin also looked like a fool last night during intros to the Skills Challenge.

Why exactly do they have to sing the Canadian National Anthem? Are they going to do the German, Spanish, and Chinese next?
