Why are you posting in the general NBA thread and not the draft thread?

According to sources, the Wiz are locked in on making a major offer to Joakim Noah. The Wizards are said to be willing to offer Noah, coming off shoulder surgery that KO’d him in January, a full maximum contract. His deal would start at $28 million and reach around $120 million over four seasons. Yeah, it’ll be that kind of crazy money for the soon-to-be former Chicago Bull. The Wizards are prepared to go all out for the 2014 NBA Defensive Player of the Year because they have glaring holes up front and already are anticipating having to win an intense bidding war. – via Sporting News

Anthony Puccio: Hearing a lot of Rondo/BKN rumors the past few days. Was told by a source that he’d love to play in NY. Knicks have Rose. #Nets need a PG.

Pass.
Seriously, was there a rift in the spacetime-continuum that made it April 1st again?? That's insane money for a guy who can't give you more than 63 games in a season.

Remember that this is click bait rumor time for the NBA. Is Sporting News a legit source?

Noah isn't even eligible for a starting salary of $28M, I don't think.

Eligible? Yes. He'll be starting year 10
1-6 years - 21.1 mill
7-10 years - 28mil
11+ years - 32mill
Worth it? No way. With the new cap, I'd say 18 mill tops.

Sweet jesus, I had no idea he could get that much.
I understand that every single player that's ever been worth a damn is going to get overpaid either this summer or next, but I wouldn't give Noah more than like $10-12M a year... too many injuries these past couple of years.

And also, if we're this close to free agency and there's absolutely no indication that Durant would have any interest in leaving OKC for the Mavs, I say we shouldn't waste our time or resources preparing a meeting/offer for him. If we're a week in and he doesn't have at least a tentative agreement with someone, different story... but there's at least 15 better situations for him to go to right now.

Durant meeting with the Heat bodes well for us. Hopefully we steal Whiteside during their pursuit.

Can't fault the Spurs for making ballsy moves (George Hill for a rookie Kawhi) and constantly drafting well at the end of the first round. There's a reason that organization is considered the best in all of sports along with the Patriots.

@ESPNSteinLine: ESPN sources say Pau Gasol, as expected, officially notified the Bulls today that he's declining his 2016-17 option and going to free agency

@ShamsCharania: Vertical Sources: Memphis has declined Lance Stephenson's $9.4M team option. He'll be free agent. Interest for return, interest elsewhere.

I still think there is some hope for Stephenson under the right coach.

Is it here? Wasn't he our fallback plan if Houston had matched Parsons? I wonder what kind of contract he is looking for. Might be able to get him a 2 year deal with PO the 2nd year for him to try and raise his stock back up.

@WojVerticalNBA: Sources: Brooklyn shopping Jarrett Jack w/ buyout date looming Thursday. Without trade, Nets plan to waive PG; would clear nearly $6M on cap
@WojVerticalNBA: Jack tore ACL in January, and league sources say that rehab has been on strong pace and he's expected to be ready for training camp in fall.

I kind of like Jack as a 4th guard, but I don't think he's a considerable upgrade over either Harris or Barea. $6M for an above-average bench player is probably going to end up being a pretty good deal. I would also consider, as a Mavs front office member, taking Jack from Brooklyn if they'd send us a 2nd-round pick for our trouble... then we can just waive him and take the $500k cap hit.
If the Mavs weren't clinging to every penny of cap space this coming week, I think Jack would be worth taking a look at... though he'll probably be available at $6M or less this summer as a free agent if he's waived.

Oh, so speculation is that the Nets are actually looking to dangle Jack as a way to take on salary and provide relief by a bigger free agent player, possibly at the cost of a draft pick. That's probably their best option right now... without control of their draft pick next season (Celtics have the right to swap, I believe?) they have no incentive to tank.

@ESPNSteinLine: Our @chris_broussard just reported Kevin Durant will meet with his current Thunder employers Thursday ... on the day before free agency.
@ESPNSteinLine: Also @chris_broussard reports Durant is meeting first Friday with Golden State; sources tell me San Antonio is currently booked for Saturday

@NBAOnDefPen: Big reason why Kevin Durant doing the 1+1 contract with the OKC #Thunder makes sense.

Turns out it's Meeks to Orlando for a conditional 2019 2nd-round pick that might not materialize at all. Straight salary dump for the Pistons. I think it's a pretty good trade for Orlando... $7.3M is peanuts against the current cap, even if Meeks has trouble staying healthy. Worth the risk for a guy who could bounce back and really help them spread the floor.
Also, decent insurance in case someone offers Fournier a huge contract.
