We didn't get any easy games to start the season, either. We should have won the Houston one, which was the easiest win for us. Everything else was tougher than usual: San Antonio, Golden State who kicked our ass last year, and Clippers, with whom we have split the last 12 games.
A win against a struggling Phoenix Suns will be even more difficult, I think possibly the toughest game of this stretch. Suns are trying to recover, and can still shoot lights out while our defense is nothing short of atrocious right now. This game scares me.
The odds couldn't be more stacked against us...... which is why we will win. Convincingly.

This is just a thought. The Old Mavericks(last yrs) during the national anthem, when they lined up, everybody had their hand on the left chest. Very impressive, and they stood tall.
This year, I noticed there were a couple of players not doing it and slouching. I think that in itself shows a lack of discipline.
They need to start going back to basics..

I noticed that too, at least during preseason. It seemed to be the new guys and I wondered why one of the others couldn't just tell them "This is how we do it in Mavsland, so you need to fall in line with the team".
Is the leadership so weak on this team that this one little simple thing hasn't been addressed?

I think while the Mavs are in Pheonix they should kidnap Nash, bring him back to Dallas and leave Anthony Johnson there.

We will find out soon how Avery does. Ager is his only guy so far.

Actually, The Antoine Walker deal was Donnie's, although Nellie admitedly signed up for the deal. If I remember correctly the conversation went like this:
Donnie: "Hey Pop, I was able to get a great package for Raef LaFrentz. We get a first round pick and this guy I really like named Jiri Welsh. The only thing is that we have to take back Antoine Walker.
Don: "Are you kidding? I love Antoine Walker"

These are the only things I know will happen tonight:
1) The Mavs will have more 3 point attempts than free throw attempts
2) Dirk will go long periods of times without touching the ball
3) Stackhouse will brick a ton of shots from everywhere while not getting to the free throw line
4) Anthony Johnson will walk his slow @ss up the court and will refuse to push the ball
5) Croshere will hit nothing
6) Dampier will be a nonfactor because he can't score
6) Devin will miss the easiest shots/layups in the world.

Aww man, I liked that they always did that. Dirk needs to set them straight.

That's not really the point though, is it?
The point is they have failed to come together even on something as simple as a pre-game anthem ritual.
Last year Jerry Sloan called it a sign of discipline. If they're so flippant about it now, then what is that a sign of? Its not even about their behavior during the anthem per se, it could be something else. For example, the Suns get together in a circle and swing back and forth. Wouldn't it be weird if only 2/3 of the squad participated in this? You'd look at them and say, "Where's the leadership?"

I guess the Phoenix doctors have alot of knee cases as well. They are 1-4! That should put things in a little perspective considering they are supposedly going to ram it up our ass this year. ?? This board is acting ridiculous after 4 games into the season. I can't believe 'fire the coach' is even in your vocabulary.
On a good note, Kerr is doing the first game which means we don't have to listen to his shit tonight.

What I want to see tonight, more than anything else, is whether this team will punch back. They have been taking a beating ever since the second half of the opening game. They have been on the ropes, getting pummeled. I wanna see if they will finally punch back.
Parcells will tell you that you don't ever know about a guy until you see him under duress. Well, the Mavs are under a ton of duress right now. I want to see them COME OUT swinging. Not in the fourth quarter, not in the second half. I want to see an angry, wounded team that has blood on its mind. I want to see bloodlust!
If I see another episode of sleepwalking, I'm going to get precariously close to the edge of the ledge. I'm ready for this team to stop playing like a tenth seed and start playing like a second seed, damnit!

What everyone is forgeting. Maimi the champs. They didn't start to hot before the switch from Stan to Pat. It is still soon in the season. Alot of teams have overcome bad starts to win it all. Remember the Rockets before the famous "Heart of a Champion" speach.
(sic)alot of misspelling.

I do, too. It was one of those gentle-spoken things that went a very long way. It seemed clear that it wasn't done out of any sort of desire for recognition (even though it was noted, it probably still wasn't widely known). But I thought it showed a great deal of both reverence and professionalism.
It wasn't unexpected that it would come from Fin. One of the lasting things I'll remember about that guy is how he always presented himself immaculately in post-game pressers. Dirk would go in sweats (not that there's anything wrong with that, it's certainly more than understandable), but Finley would shower and put his best clothes on. Always tastefully dressed, too.
Just a good, good guy on the whole. These are probably the little glimpses we get of the big things that were the reason he was such a leader in the locker room. Even with big personalities around him.
