ok....a third shout out for the coen brothers. The Big Lebowski, even as great as it is, may only be their 4th best movie.

Fargo and Raising Arizona are 1a and 1b. O' Brother is classic. All pass the really great movie test -- they get better each time you watch them.

The coen brothers are like a 18+ year single malt scotch. For some, it may be to much going on for the pallete to handle all at once, and for others, it is a mixture of spices and scents that each time you take it off the shelf, you recognize something different to appreciate it for.

has anyone mentioned mel gibson??? I know he's a jew-hating alcoholic who hasn't direct a ton of movies, but Braveheart and The Passion of the Christ are both in my top ten.
