If this BS goes down we trade for Kobe or come up short for the rest of Dirk's career. I can't say it enough, there is no way ONE superstar can beat 3 in-their-prime superstars, (KG might be on the down side of his career but he is definitely still a superstar - not the same as the Malone/Payton tandem joining Shaq/Kobe).
We could beat a team of TWO superstars with just one, but not 3. If this goes down, we might as well pull a Minny if we can't find a second stud for Dirk, (and no, Howard/Harris does not qualify as that).
This is really depressing.

So lets say this happens, then do the mavs break the bank and go for say C. Billups, V. Carter, or R. Lewis?

It won't matter: barring injury, Phoenix wins the title.

....TO US it makes sense...
Unfortunately to make a trade both teams have to be OK with it.

You and me both. I know Cuban is shitting his pants right now. The sad thing is that there isn't anything we can do to stop it because of what Minny wants back. The only thing we can do is counter it. Unfortunately Buss isn't going to do what McHale just did. He isn't going to start over. If he trades Kobe it will have to be for another star player coming in. I don't see any one player that can join this team and stop the Suns with that lineup other than him. Sad truth. Jermaine ONeal damn sure won't get it done, (not after you remove Howard/Terry). It must be nice to have high draft picks to help you land stars/superstars.

You should read some of our wonderful trade threads. Apparently the other team doesn't have to care, and every trade is just there for the taking.

It almost has to be a given that if Phoenix does this, Dallas has to respond with some kind of "big" move, don't they?

No kidding. How do you get equal value for KG?
Apparently Minnesota isn't interested in anything that even approaches equal value.

Boston Receives : Shawn Marion

Minnesota gets expirings, youth, and 4 1st rounders for their disgrunted star.
Boston gets a defensive-minded star to help Pierce
Phoenix makes a move for KG to pair up with Nash & Amare to make a major title run.

I couldn't agree with Male[var=age]Dan more: This trade is WIN, WIN, WIN.
The Wolves come out like an absolute BANDIT in this trade. In fact, this might be on par with the Herschel Walker trade. They get salary relief in SPADES. Who said that expiring contracts weren't worth anything anymore? Ratliff's is the biggest one on the market, and it's a big player in this deal. They get a kid with good potential in Green (basically a retroactive first), the #5 in this beautiful draft, another first in this draft, and two future #1's, including one that might be another lottery pick? My goodness, for a team that is looking to rebuild, they just hit the freaking lottery! Even Gomes can tide them over for a little while. WOW. That might be the biggest haul any player ever brought in. And it makes perfect sense, since if the Wolves are dealing KG, they are clearly committed to a few years of rebuilding. Kevin McHale will be doused in champagne if this deal goes through.
Phoenix gets EXACTLY what they want, which is an upgrade in order to win NOW. Enough said.
Boston satisfies all their requirements. The fans are punch-drunk from the shock of the lottery, and Pierce is an unhappy camper. On the surface, they give just the #5 and spare parts for Shawn freakin' Marion. I can guarantee you that they weren't going to get anything at #5 that would come remotely close to offering them what Marion will bring. Basically, Boston gets out lucky. If they can't do a deal for a vet like Marion, they are looking at watching the whole thing explode on them.
It's a beautifully-crafted deal, if it goes down like that.

Yeah... I don't know that the Wolves come out like an absolute bandit here because they could end up with a bunch of shitty picks and no KG; however, it also gives them the opportunity to be a GREAT team. Hell, a championship team if everyone hits their stride at the same time. A lot of what ifs obviously, but they will be doing very good if half of their lottery picks hit.
As for Boston, well, the shitty ass Cavs went to the finals this past year. Now you add Marion to Pierce and Jefferson, (who should be much better this year), and you have yourself an immediate threat to at least get into the second round. With the east that could be just as easily a trip to the finals.
Phoenix becomes one of the best teams ever assembled on paper. This isn't like the old LA team with a VERY aged Malone/GP. This is three S U P E R S T A R S on the same team all playing the best basketball of their lives, (again, with a SMALL decrease in KGs game). Now you have KG who will immediately get better with all of the easy baskets he will get and he becomes potentially even better than he was in his best year. Imagine Nash running down with Amare on one side posting and KG on the other. You think there will be a few open 3s in the corners for ol Bell/Barbosa??? Damn!

I think this trade would make a lot more sense if Minny got a good young player. Sure Green has potential, but that's nowhere near enough potential if I'm trading a former MVP. Just as Minny could turn out great with the picks, they could also stay at square 1. Good draft pick positions don't guarantee good players. Garnett is proven, none of these future picks are. If I'm Minny, I'm demanding a player that's in his first year or two scoring 15ppg.

We still have NO ONE to score inside and they have TWO tremendous inside threats WHILE ALSO having great 3pt shooters and a much improved interior defense. I don't think everyone understands just how many ways this team improves with this trade.

this is insane, freaking suns give away an all star and recieve a better all star. Suns are gonna be forced to slow down, i don't see garnett running and gunning, which makes them even more potent. UGH and the Mavs will have to guard Amare and KG at the same time, hope Marion says no

Sad thing is, Spurs can still probably beat the Suns in 6 if this trade goes thru.

To get taller, better defense, better efficiency, better rebounding, and a better inside offensive presence WHILE KEEPING your two time all-star and absolute stud C/PF in Amare AND not even losing your 6th man.... Well, this is a really bad day in Mavsland if this trade is accepted by all parties.

If Kerr is the architect on this trade, he immediately solidifies a position as one of the top GM's in the league.
