I think you have it correct in that Rick's not viewing Roddy as a key contributor in the post-season, and with good reason... That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see Roddy have some playoff games where he'll play 18-22 minutes, that is if we actually make the playoffs and don't go out in the first round...
Also, I think we need Lamar to play more than 10 minutes a game... I know he needs to play better and more consistent, but an extended run in the playoffs just wont be possible without 15-20 solid minutes from Odom on most nights...

I don't think the team trusts roddy either. I saw them passing the ball away from him.

Based on tonight I would play Kidd 48.

Less Kidd, more West, and more Marion at PF. I really do not trust Odom to take care of business in the playoffs right now.

Get out of here... You (try to) take what the defense gives you. Most of those were open. Going 0 for 4 is much better, right? You have to go both ways. 2 weeks ago their % were virtually the same. If you're gonna bash the kid for going 1-6, you sure as hell have to bash West for going 0 for 4. Or just stfu with your usual one man blame.
Not taking an open 3, is possibly the biggest crime you can commit in the NBA. Those are the best shots, and Roddy can knock them down. He shot 40% in his rookie season, on 52 attempts, that can't be a coincidence. If the defense give them to you, you take them, it's really that simple, especially on a night like this, when everybody (minus Dirk) is shooting like absolute crap.

This was a TRAP. You do not always take what the defense offers you, esp. with Dirk being hot.
6 threes and 8 shots in 16 minutes for Roddy was simply perfect for LAC. Exactly what they wanted.
Roddy's job should be attacking the basket, hustling for steals, blocks and finding the open guy. Dribbling around the 3pt line and jacking up 3s once he sees a little "light", makes zero sense.
Our whole backcourt is not competitive this year and it is painful to watch. Let's hope we get Deron and can play him 39min. per game next year.

Based on last night, this thread should be closed and not re-opened until we clinch.
Where is Jim Mora when you need him????

Or no more Carter period. He hasn't had a really good game since Denver...8 games ago. Hell, March was just a bad overall month for him. 8.6 points on 36% shooting and 31% from three won't cut it.

I'm all for that. Carter couldn't score on Foye and the team desperately tried to exploit that matchup. He shouldn't start any longer. I was hoping for West to get the spot sooner or later, but now with Kidd out we'll have to survive it.

Take your pick. He's had quality games against the Rockets, Spurs, Jazz, Nuggets, Knicks, and Grizzlies this year. And he played terrific the one time we've seen him in the playoffs. Some of you guys are small-sampling me to death with all this stuff about him shrinking under pressure.

Well, the Jazz, Rockets, Knicks, Grizzlies all suck this year.
Only the Spurs are good out of those teams. And only the Spurs with perhaps the Grizzlies are the only teams the Mavs will see in the playoffs... if they make it to the playoffs.

Forget about statistics. Do you get the sense that he can be counted on in the playoffs?

How can anyone get a sense of anything this season? I'd trust playing him over Vince Carter at this point, but even Carter has been juggled around position-wise.
I'm all for fairness, and Roddy hasn't played well lately. But I just can't really get a grasp on this team up or down. Can you?
(I know this was directed at grmstr, but I thought I'd weigh in as well)

Last year we had two wildcards going into the playoffs in Peja and JJB, this year our whole backcourt is a wildcard. That's the main difference to me.
Carter played good (great) in 7 of 19 games, Roddy 5 of 12, Terry 8 of 16, West 5 of 11.
That's no consistency from either one, so in my eyes you can't count somebody in and surely shouldn't count somebody out. Especially Carter, Roddy and West played on similar levels against current playoff teams and had their share of cruel games. Terry is slightly above the bunch and Kidd has been great outside hitting shots.
So it's really hard to assess who you can count on in the playoffs. This year it might be the best to see what's working on a nightly basis.

There are too many questions about the rest of the guys in the backcourt, and Booby's been too effective when he has been effective, for me to think that it makes sense for him to get locked out of the rotation altogether.

The Roddy pessimists are rather annoying. They ignore other players bad games and single out Roddy. When Roddy has a good game, they are nowhere to be seen.

That's not really true. This roddy pessimist thought he was turning a corner and gave him congrats. But as the dirkster said, just a tease it appears. He was horrible last night.

Budapest, if they were kick out threes I'd agree, but they were not. But you are telling me that roddy cannot get into the lane but...
Jet 4 out of 13 threes shot,
Delonte 4 out of 9 threes shot and
carter 2 out of 6 threes shot..
Can? Come on man.

No I'm bashing him for taking 8 shots and 6 were threes with no ftas.

Mavericks just need to grab the 4/5 spot IMO. A date with the Clippers or possibly the Grizz is preferable to the Lakers who may just destroy the Mavericks with last year as motivation.

I really think the Grizz/Clippers are actually the 2 worst matchup for us. I'd rather play against the Spurs again. If we can't put it together until the playoffs, it doesn't matter though, as we'll lose to any of those teams.

I don't care about anyone but the lakers. I think they kick our butts.
