I just hope that when Dwill and JJ are back that Seth and Yogi don't get nailed to the bench. Seth for sure, Yogi obviously has to keep playing like this but his offense and defense in 2 games has been great.

If RC gets this merry band of misfits to the playoffs he better get some consideration for COTY.

I worry about that as well.

These young guys are fun to watch and seem to be rejuvenating Dirk.
Curry and Yogi will give Rick something to think about when JJ and DWill come back.
Yogi looks like the type of guy who thrives on making teammates better.

When JJ and Pierre come back will the Mavs be the first team in history to play 3 guys under 6ft at the same time?

If they can start the win streak after these nice wins. Chasing 33-33 could be possible. Which can leave the possibilities of playoff spot or spots.

The ultimate goal is 4 guards with Barnes at center.

7-3 in our last 10, just beat the Spurs and Cavs back-to-back... Thought we were playing for lotto balls this season, but it looks like destiny wants us to sweep the Dubs in the first round instead.

Lebron blasts his FO about needing a playmaker on his team and Mavs go out and sign Yogi for nothing. Mavs deserve some credit for adding guys like Curry, DFS, and Yogi for next to nothing. Makes me hopeful that if someone can keep Cuban out of the draft room it won't matter where we pick, we will get a quality player. Maybe we can give Parsons a call and have them plan a gir... err bro's night out on draft night.

Even on the 7-3 run, mavs are still 4 games back and have to climb over 5 other teams. This could still end worst case scenario at the 9 seed, with no draft pick worth a dang.

I hope Yogi keeps this up so that we can be flexible in the draft.
I see Yogi as having a JJ ceiling at the very minimum.

Tim Cato got a money Rick quote...
Rick Carlisle on the Mavs: "We're a shit team, but we're an underrated shit team. That's about as accurately as I can put it."

I think there will be a nice rotation player at 9.
If we end up with Markkanen I'll be happy as hell.
We got a pretty good player at 9 in 1998

Teeny-tiny 2 game sample, but Yogi's stats as a starter for the Mavs (2-0):
14.0 PPG (10-19/4-10/4-4) / 5.0 APG (1.0 TO) / 3.5 RPG / 3.0 SPG / 37.0 MPG
Can't wait to see more.

Can they sign him to an extension this offseason? Not sure how those things work. I suppose they'd rather use that money on other sprayers this offseason.

He isn't eligible for an extension since his original deal was for two years at the room exception.

9 seed translates to picks number 13 and 14. Not taking under consideration team record. In any case, with 9th seed you are talking about pick 10-14. I can not imagine Larkkanen going outside top 10.

Watching Yogi zip around was almost as much fun as listening to Buckner continuously laughing last night. That is one dude I would love to hang out with at a party. You know he just enjoys life.
On Yogi, I agree that his ceiling is slightly more/less than JJB which is a high quality rotation player. Remember it's 2 games in and opposing teams probably have yet to even put his name on their scouting reports.

All I know after watching the last 2 nights is that Bogut/Dirk/Barnes/Matthews/DWill should never happen again at any stage of a game.
I'm ok with all of them individually with other lineups getting some good burn but never together as that unit.

Yogi as a starter right now kinda reminds me of the final month or so of last season when JJ was inserted into the starting lineup and the team made a big run.
So far I like the spark he is giving us.

Did some digging, and Yogi was basically the best in college at the pull up three. Hence why he takes them without hesitation.
I do think smaller, talented pgs like him will fall through the cracks since every team values size.

Dynamic/aggressive lead guards are essential. Deron is skilled, but he's not particularly dynamic or aggressive.
I think we may be really overhyping a guy who is shooting 38%/32% from the field with a mediocre A/TO, but the fact that we're finding team success with him just goes to show how essential it is to have a dynamic PG playing whether Ferrell develops into that guy or if we can find someone like him but better in the draft.
So far so good for Ferrell. He's certainly been better than I hoped, but more than that, it's really good to see the team being successful.

I think what I like most about Yogi, aside from his name, is that in these 2 games he appears to be a guy looking to break down a defense to set up the offense. Dwill on the other hand rarely probes the defense anymore and when he does it's been to get his own more often than not. The offense isn't stagnant at all with Yogi but with Dwill we have several stretches where our offense is a lot of dribbling around the perimeter with a pull up or step back jumper to end a possession.

I do think it is yet another example of where stats don't tell the whole story.
Players seem to be feeding off his confidence and leadership. Leadership is something the team seriously lacks from the PG position...basically the position you need it.
But yeah, lost in the Yogi hype is how well Barnes played this game. 24 pts, 11 rebounds, 3 assists is fantastic.

I think there is a good chance this thing will eventually fizzle out....especially as defenses start focusing on him. But I don't think it is necessarily overhyping what the guy has done for the team and was a vital part of beating two championship caliber teams....one on their home floor.
I'd be pleasantly shocked if he continues this or even improves over the rest of the season (if he even gets the opportunity).
